| Weight Loss | Calorie counting forever? | Sep 19 2012 11:59 (UTC) |

For the past year on CC I logged daily. More recently I've given myself week-ends off. It is pretty easy for me to log Mon-Fri since I sit at a desk, but by not logging on week-ends I feel a little more free. I still think about what I'm eating, running an estimated total in my head. I think I'm doing OK. I would like to reach a point of "intuitive eating," but I don't think I am there yet. I need to be accountable, and logging helps me with that. I find it comforting to know that I can always resume logging if I ever stop & find things getting out of control. |

Have you tried the Ben & Jerry's frozen Greek yogurt? Delish. I especially like the peanut butter & banana. For daily use, though, I like Oikos (Dannon). I choose the plain nonfat & sometimes add chia seeds, oats, or fruit. It is often sold for about $1/cup. |

I have used Wen products for 2-3 years, and it has been wonderful. I have short, fine hair (but lots of it), and since reaching menopause I've found that everything dries up. Anyway, I "shampoo" daily (Wen doesn't call its product shampoo--it is a "cleansing conditioner), but I use only a fraction of what is recommened--like 2-3 pumps for my whole head instead of 3-4 pumps per quandrant. My color lasts longer, my hair is shiny & silky--I gets lots of compliments from peers & professional stylists. I get an automatic delivery every six months at $110 each (incl. shipping). I would pay that buying retail anyway. |

Try this: www.textsfromlastnight.com You can enter your local area code to get only those. I like 336, which is the location of such schools as UNC, Duke, NC State, etc. Good stuff.

I really like that movie. Elisabeth is such a complex character, isn't she? I'd forgotten about the sexin'.....story of my life, I guess. |

I have a Prevacid ad on my sidebar that keeps scrolling over my posts. I think I'd rather just have GERD. |

Great breakfast, karijos, Working in a satellite office today. I tend to make poor food choices when I am here. Brought Greek yogurt, fruit, etc with me....but that bowl of chocolate is the afternoon siren. Maybe I will get too busy to notice. |

I have reactive hypoglycemia, which means I have a pretty significant drop in blood sugar following high glycemic foods. At my last GTT my sugar spiked following the glucose drink and then dropped to the point that I was shakey and light-headed. I should add that my blood sugar has been more stable since I came to CC and began paying better attention to my diet. A1C last year was normal. |

| Motivation | im am bigger girl and want to lose weight | Sep 14 2012 12:17 (UTC) |

I am also 5'7", and when I arrived at CC in the summer of 2011 I weighed 230.4 pounds. When I last weighed about two weeks ago I weighed 176. You are not alone. Many people here want to lose more than 20-30 pounds. In fact, there are groups dedicated to specific weight loss goals, e. g. 50-100 pounds. You may be as frustrated as I was when I came here. I knew--intellectually, at least--that diets do not work. Yet I was so desperate for something, anything, to jump start my weight loss. I was keeping calories low, and I spent countless hours on the treadmill, but I could not lose weight. I even had one doctor tell me to eat 1200 calories per day, which I now realize is far too low. They kept saying, "Eat less, exercise more," and I'd reply, "But I'm already doing that!." After a month, or six weeks, or maybe three months, I would give up because the scales had not budged. I would binge, literally making myself sick, and begin the cycle all over again. To be quite honest, I came to CC to log my food with the intent of proving to my doctor that I was not overeating. I was shocked when it was suggested I eat 1600 calories per day: I was sure I would balloon to mammopth proportions! But I was out of answers, so I did it. The weight began to drop! And 1600 calories per day was satisfying. I continued to walk the treadmill, but as I became lighter and more motivated I could increase the intensity (incline, speed, etc). I joined groups & challenges here on CC, found wonderful support, and became vested in my own health. It became exciting. I don't like to weigh myself too often because I can make myself a bit "crazy" about the number. I've learned to keep minor fluctuations in weight in perspective, recognizing that they are normal. I don't have to eat a dozen doughnuts in response. However much I enjoy seeing a smaller number on the scale, I find that other things have to be my motivation: At the end of the day I find satisfaction in knowing I stuck with it, or that I managed my "calorie account." Today I enjoy weight lifting and spinning. I would never have ventured into those group classes one year ago. There was a time that 1.5-2 pounds per week would not have been enough for me, but I'm comfortable with that now. I wanted the double-digit numbers that people on TV weight loss shows have! Not a good goal for me, I learned, and when I look at what I can do in one month at a slower pace I'm comfortable with it. There are lots of people here with different needs, points of view, and experiences. I suspect you can find what you need if you stick around. People are quite helpful, and many of us understand your dilemma. Good luck! |

A few years ago I decided to stop doing my own color. I let the color grow out, and I asked my stylist to turn me auburn. I'm middle aged with salt & pepper hair. He did not apply some kind of treatment that is important when coloring gray hair, so it turned pink! Yes, PINK. I was livid. He thought it was "cool." they "corrected" it--sort of--and I never returned to that shop. |

I like some of them: Chicken Poblano, Asiago Tortellini, Potstickers, for example. Not exactly what I want all the time, but the portions are controlled, the calories are counted, and I know I'm not going to resort to fast food if I have them here at work. I usually give them a shot of Sriracha and pair with something green like steamed veges or salad. |

Lean Cuisine. Chicken Potstickers from the Market Collection , I think. They were on sale, a feature that drives my dietary choices these days. |

Have you ever tried spinning? It is an intense, guided cycling session, designed to simulate various outdoor settings but done with an instructor. Lots of going from standing to sitting positions, various resistances, "climbing." I just started this summer, and I'm loving it. |

Vegetable, chicken, and beef broths. Jell-O. Popsicles. Yes, the artificial sweetners give me gas, too, but tonight's cleanse will purge that. You'll be all out of dignity by tomorrow and not mind pushing your butt to the side of bed while the doc runs a camera up your colon. I watched mine on a TV. Good times. |
