that sounds pretty reasonable. As long as you exercise regularly and eat enough but not too much, you will be fine. And remember it isn't about getting to a certain weight by a certain date. It is about getting to a healthy weight and staying at one long term. |

Funny part is I used to untag myself immediately in photos I thought I looked fat in. Sometimes I wish I could tell my former self "It's not the camera, it's you!". |

I do B. Honestly it's a holiday, I want to celebrate, however, I think keeping track of it keeps me acountable, aware and keeps me from going overboard.
I try to find ways to improve the food. I make bite size Christmas cookies so I can sample. I make sure vegetables are incorporated into my meal. If there is something that looks really delicious but I know it's really bad for me, I just have a bite or two. I also serve myself on smaller plates. |

Your blood sugars are low which is why you are dizzy. Eat that banana! 1200 calories isn't enough for most people. |

Personally I could never just go cold turkey on exercise. Running has been great for me, it's become something I enjoy rather than a chore. I always exercised... although I workout more consistently and do a full body workout rather than a light cardio routine. I've been trying to keep myself in check, especially now as I have my finals for college. I try to munch on healthier options like fruit or veggies rather than chips and candy. Although I usually reward myself with chocolate :) I don't think not eating enough will ever be a problem for me. I just enjoy food too much. From a health standpoint, I know the last few pounds are always harder. Your body is more resistant to giving up its fat stores, your metabolism is simply lower and with lower amounts of stored energy (fat), your body won't want you to cut out as much fast energy (food) which means increased hunger. |

Most are a simple "You look great!", but my favorite was a friend telling me quite bluntly "You look hot.". Another, jokingly (but actually serious) said "I'm jealous". One time I made a joke about my weight struggles, which still exist, and a friend said "You can't play the fat card anymore, you can only play the skinny card.". I don't think she meant it the way it came out, but anyone who is recently "skinny" knows the struggles and body image issues don't magically leave with weight loss. Also I was technically still overweight then (just barely). I've also received comments such as "You're so skinny, you need to eat more!" This is when I ordered spring rolls at a chinese food place when everyone else was having an extra meal at 10 PM/ I have a BMI of 23, I'm not skinny. Some people get defensive around me, while they don't specifically comment on my lifestyle change, people have made fun of anyone who chooses to drink diet soda, diets in general, exercise and I get a lot of fat pride around me, who enjoy being fat and unhealthy and think the pressure for weight loss is Hollywood's **** of a overly thin ideal for beauty. But overall people's reactions have been motivation, I'm not going to lie, I love positive attention! |

I still binge on occasion, but my bingeing was much more out of control before. I probably binge maybe every other week, but I used to binge around 3 times per week. I didn't recognize it as binge until I started losing weight and had a moment of weakness and went to town on a pint of Ben & Jerry's. Although what I consider a "binge" now probably would have counted as a meal back then... now my binges are 500-800 cal. and before they were usually 1500 calories. Personally I don't think mine are to make up for lack of nutrients/ food, it is usually emotionally/ hormonally triggered, it almost always happens at a certain time of month with an emotional trigger. |

Find something veggie based with chicken or tofu. But make sure it isn't breaded or fried. The cashews might have a lot of calories (I doubt they use one serving). See if they have pictures of the food (a lot of Asian restaurants do that). Avoid noodle dishes. It won't be a huge deal if you don't eat out often, so I say get something that doesn't sound too bad and if they have large portions, save some for later. Try to limit yourself to one caloric drink (if at all). I find it very easy at restaurants to inhale 3+ sodas in one meal, so usually I only allow one. Oh yeah, and fried ice cream probably isn't good for your diet (although it is delicious) |

It depends. I'm 5'10 and started at 225 lbs. and was convincing myself I was still a 16, although it was debatable. Around 205 I started fitting into 14s, around 190 I fit into 12s, around 175 I was a size 10, now I'm about 160 and a size 8. That said, my size varies based on the brand and the cut. Also, size changes based on inches lost rather than pounds. And size aren't standardized in the US. But size changes faster at lower weights. Maybe because larger women are more likely to fluctuate. And 1 inch around the waist is much different at a size 16 vs. a size 8. SW: 225, 44-39-47 (size 16) CW: 161, 39-28-40 (size 8) |

| Weight Loss | how to resist junk food...?!!!! | Nov 28 2012 05:30 (UTC) |

|
Allow some junk food. If you overly restrict it will backfire. Figure out why your body is craving it. Are you hungry or bored? If bored, then try to have tea or something. If you are hungry see what your body has been lacking. If you are craving sugar, go for fruit rather than candy, maybe add a small serving of dark chocolate. It's much richer and therefore satisfies chocolate cravings with less. If you want chips, try having unsalted/ unbuttered popcorn instead. 100 calories of popcorn has much higher volume than 100 calories chips/ pretzels, so it is good for munchie cravings. Also instead of resisting food like cake at parties, have a small piece to get a taste of it, just don't go overboard. |

| Weight Loss | Stories of success? | Nov 26 2012 06:12 (UTC) |

I started losing weight in September of 2011 at the start of my junior year in college. I gained 35 lbs. over my first two years as a result of enjoying the wrong foods at the dining hall, not playing varsity sports like in high school and weekend activities. Luckily I was able to get an apartment (very close to the gym!) my junior year. I dropped the dining plan to avoid familiar temptations. DIET: I do not say never for any types of food. Overly restrictive diets don't work. The diet I use to lose weight is the diet I plan to stay on for good. Moderation is the key to my diet success. I eat as much fruits and veggies as I want. I also make sure I get a lot of protein. I eat a lot of chicken breast and fish, but I keep a good variety. Eggs are also a great quick and easy source (but watch the cholesterol). For dairy I usually have non-fat greek yogurt (huge Chobani fan). I also drink almond milk instead of regular milk. I limit my cheese as well, since I can very easily go to town on the stuff. I eat mostly whole grain, although sometimes it isn't available. I only drink soda when I eat out. I eat the occasional treat, but in moderation. I drink when I go out with friends on weekends, but no more than 3 drinks per night. Although I will occasionally relax with a small glass of wine. EXERCISE: I played 3 varsity sports in high school, but my first 2 years of college I would only go on the elliptical for 30 min., 3X per week. Now I run 3 times per week, usually about an hour, bike around campus, take a class twice per week as well as regular strength and core exercises. I started run/ walking with 2/3 running for 2 miles. Now I can run a 5k in under 30 minutes without walking and am building to a 10k in under an hour. I had support from friends and family. I have people who were losing weight with me or had similar struggles in the past. 5'10/ F/ 22 SW: 225 (~9/1/2011) CW: 161 (as of today) GW: 150 (was previously 160) |

Fasting is never a good decision. Eat a normal healthy amount of food with plenty of carbs, fats and proteins. It may even help prevent future binges, otherwise you will get stuck in an endless and vicious cycle. |

| Weight Loss | How long does it take to notice? | Nov 02 2012 22:38 (UTC) |

If you haven't started, I suggest start taking pictures of your body (like bikini shots) to record your progress. Also try measuring yourself (chest/waist/hips). I started really noticing a difference around 20 lbs. I am 5'10 and started at 225. Now I can see a difference even with 5-10 lb. losses. But it depends on your height/weight and where you carry it the most. If you keep it up, you will start noticing very soon :) Good luck! |

Well I also haven't consumed larger amounts of alcohol in a while. While I've continued to drink about 1-2 times per week, it usually is no more than 3 drinks a night. The reason I say 6-8 servings is because I was probably filling 1 red solo cup (12 oz.) with either 2-3 shots each in addition to 2 beers. But the last time I had more than 3 drinks in a night was the superbowl and I weighed nearly 200 lbs. then and was drinking the 12 beers I consumed over a 7 hour time span. And I was also eating a lot during that party, when I had a light dinner last weekend.

| The Lounge | Taxing unhealthy food to subsidize healthy food? | Oct 15 2012 02:56 (UTC) |

There are certain foods that clearly are very high in calories and have very little nutritional value. While those foods are fine in moderation, they should not be consumed on a regular basis. And so far I think nutritionists have done a pretty good job in identifying which foods are best for our health and which foods do not. We know chips, soda and candy for example are generally not healthy. These are foods we do not need in our diet and should not be consumed regularly. These are also generally inexpensive. Fruits and vegetables are great for our health. They're full of nutrients and beneficial for our health. They are also more expensive than most foods. While it might be complicated in an economic standpoint, it could definitely help offset the cost. I have a lot of friends who are on a tight budget and don't have the money to buy healthier foods. While they like healthy foods, they typically get their calories with pasta, ramen, high-sodium canned goods and highly processed foods with a terrifyingly lengthy ingredient list. |

The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
