I don't see a problem in doing that. What with all the packaged food diets out there (Nutrisystem, Slim Fast, Medifast, etc.), why not a cheaper version to add to the list? It has a ton of sodium/preservatives and is pretty low on the nutrition scale, but I don't see anything wrong with it, so long as you (like you said) eat fresh fruits and vegetables along with it.

If you're young, I wouldn't worry so much about the sodium, although some of those meals tend to have a LOT more sodium than you really, truly need. I'd suggest what one of the other posters suggested: make your own meals. Cook a big batch of pasta, break them up into decent portion sizes and freeze them yourself. It's healthier, and you control what goes in your meal.

Weight Loss observation for those trying to lose, might be encouraging!! Jul 16 2009

I definitely agree. It really is just a number. People hold their weight differently, so it really shouldn't matter what OTHERS think your weight might be.

I'm 325lbs, but people are amazed and in complete disbelief when I tell them that, but only because I hold my weight so well cause I'm 6'2". So when people guess my weight is lower than that, it makes me feel good. Even if somebody guessed I was MORE than 325, I'd still feel good in knowing that I'm NOT more than 325. So it works out both ways for me. :)

I think people (women especially since we tend to get down on ourselves a bit more) should focus more on losing weight and being fit for our health and to feel good, not so much for the number on the scale. Even though I know I'm fat, and the scale knows I'm fat, and the world knows I'm fat, there are days when I feel thin and I feel good. That's what we need to focus on: feeling good!

So there. :P

You eat the cookies because it's there, and the fact that you can only get it once a year.

Here's a recipe for HOMEMADE caramel delights, aka "Samoas". This way, you won't have it in your house unless you decide to make them. And when you do make them, you can make them in super small batches so you aren't tempted to eat more than you prepared for. :)

That same sight also has links to the other girl scout cookies, all home made recipes. I haven't tried them yet, but they look pretty darn similar to me. Hopefully they taste just as similar. Then I'll be in heaven! :)

Weight Loss Has anybody used Acai Berry Juice as a means to health and weight loss? Oct 04 2008

No no, I'm talking about PURE ACAI BERRY JUICE. No added sugar, preservatives, or any other fruit juices to make it taste good. The juice I'm talking about is straight from the acai, nothing but the fruit itself, every part of it. That's the juice with the most benefits, not this fake, sugar loaded juices you see in the grocery store. I'd like to hear about the real, pure fruit juice that you could probably only find online. I've personally have never seen pure acai berry juice locally, I've only seen it online.

I find that I am hungry the day after I do really well, or eat below my calorie goal for the day. For example, if my goal is to eat 1800 calories on Monday and I end up eating 1500, I will be hungry all day Tuesday and will end up eating about 2300. Wednesday I will eat 1600-1700, Thursday I will eat 2500 or so (of course my expenditure is 2700-2800, so it's all good). Although it does throw me off mentally. I do realize though that the number on the scale still manages to go down... so I must not be doing TOO bad a thing. I decided to just shoot for a "zig zag diet" since I seem to be doing just that anyways. So long as the number continues to go down, or stays the same (anything but up!) I say eat what you're craving. I had TWO dinners last night (PLUS a milkshake!) and my numbers this morning are the lowest I've seen so far! =)

Goodluck.

Goodluck, cause you might need it. I don't believe in quitting "cold turkey" because if you do, you're more likely to fail. Moderation is key, especially when it comes to food. Cutting down is the main thing you want to do, but don't avoid it all together. If one day you want a cookie... hell, eat a cookie, but eat ONE and stop there. As hard as it is, it's really just a matter of self control. I know all about that. I'd be the same exact way. I would binge until I felt like I was gonna explode, but now I can eat a cookie, or an ice cream cone or something and stop at just one. It's incredibly hard, especially when you're first starting out, but it gets easier over time.

Anyhow, goodluck!

Weight Loss nutri system help Aug 25 2008

You do realize that Nutrisystem probably isn't the best thing for someone who wants to find foods low in sodium, right? Nutrisystem is just packaged foods in small quantities (and even lower quality, from what I have tasted), and packaged foods = plenty of sodium. Although one or two servings of their foods is okay, having it 3-4 times a day, the sodium really adds up.

Honestly, I would have saved my money and used it to buy a food scale and a real grocery list with fresh foods, real meats, less sodium/preservatives, etc. All you've got to do is learn how to measure your own REAL/FRESH foods (i.e NON packaged foods) and BAM! You got your own "nutrisystem". Why waste the money? Not only that, but foods you can cook/prepare at home is much more tasty.

Anyhow, goodluck!

If you don't feel like eating or if you're not hungry, then don't eat. You can try to make up for some of your lost calories next time. I'm the same way sometimes. I can go an entire day without eating anything but a banana or something small... it doesn't do as much damage as people think, unless you kept up that habit, which I doubt you will. So yeah... just make up for it. Goodluck.

Weight Loss When to eat what?? Aug 18 2008

People are different and have different opinions as to what a healthy diet is or should be. Some people eat by a schedule, some people just eat when they're hungry. A person should eat every 3-5 hours. I don't believe in scheduled eating. I believe you should eat when you're hungry, so long as you stop when you're comfortable, not full. Of course, breakfast IS the most important meal of the day, so you definitely want to refuel in the morning as soon as you can, but there really is no order or time in which we should eat, in my opinion. Of course, everybody's different.

I am in definite need of motivation from people who are in the same situation as I am. I am currently at my heaviest and I'm disgusted! I'm 6'1", 320lbs!!!! When I was 14, I was able to lose 85lbs in less than a year and got down to 180, which was the smallest I had ever been. I was getting many compliments from my friends and family... some even said I looked anorexic... but I STILL thought I was fat and disgusting, so I fell into depression mode and began eating my way back to square one, only this time I had gained about 30lbs more. I just had my first child almost 3 months ago, and I had gained ANOTHER 30lbs during my pregnancy!

My goal is to get down from 320lbs to 180lbs. My short term goal is to get down to 300lbs.

I started my healthy lifestyle change at the begining of this month and I was doing well for about 10 days... then the weekend came, and I blew it. I thought, "ok well, tomorrow's another day". I wanted to restart my "diet" the next day, but instead, I blew it for 2 more consecutive days. -sighs- now I'm extremely depressed. I always find a way to mess things up and I don't know how to fix it. I've eaten a TON of calories in the past 3 days. I think all the effort I put into those ten days were just a waste now that I've ruined it. I need big time help... so I'm right there with you guys!

Weight Loss overeating for... how long? Aug 15 2008
06:21 (UTC)

It doesn't matter how long you eat, it's how much you eat/how many calories you consume. If you consume 3500 calories more than you burn, that's enough to gain 1 pound. If you've been consistently piggin' out for 5 days, I'd expect to gain a good couple of pounds... unless you're anorexic and your definition of "overeating" means adding a few extra croutons to your dry salad.

My advice: stop piggin' out. Find other ways to keep yourself busy and console your loneliness.

Weight Loss Does anyone else feel... Aug 11 2008

I'm the same way. When I go to my friends' houses, I have no control over what I eat. I have to eat whatever they have, and sometimes it isn't the most healthy things. Not only that, but the people I live with now are junkfood junkies, always buying candies, ice cream, unhealthy, fatty stuff and we usually eat dinner together, so if they make something that I can't have, I feel forced to eat it anyway. It's frustrating. Sometimes I don't even like going to my friends house for dinner, I'd prefer to stay home because that way I know exactly what I'ma eat and how many calories are in it.

If you click on the "Tool" tab once you log in to Calorie-Count, they have provided us with a bunch of calculators to find out about the things you're asking. Once you click "Tool", click "Allowance" and enter in your stats and whatever applies to you (whether you're sedentary, active, etc), and it will calculate how many calories you should have per day in order to lose whatever amount of weight you want. It's very helpful... but I doubt it's accurate because everybody is different, so it's just an approximate figure.
I'm 6'1", 320lbs and very sedentary, both at work AND at home, except on days when I workout at the gym... it says I should lose 20lbs in about 3 months by eating 1800 cals a day... try it out and see what it says for you.

Best of luck!
