210/1000 Well, my one week trip turned into a 2 week "exercise vacation". Won't make my goal, but am getting back in the saddle again! |

Welcome, the_dragon! Nice to see you in this forum. I missed having conversations with you! kyashiis: That is so fantastic that you have found a way to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. That's the point I want to get to! Everyone sounds so motivated for their goals this time. Me, too! I just missed setting a goal last round (newbie), but I came close on my personal goal of exercising at least 1000 minutes/per month (still 172 minutes short, but counting until the end of the week for the goal). Soooo, technically I can only set one goal, which will be to exercise 3000 minutes during the next 12 weeks (basically the same goal). |

Thanks for getting this thread started so quickly! And once again, what a great topic! I usually handle stress by overeating/drinking. Of course, it doesn't solve anything and usually makes things worse. Exercise does help when I make myself do it. I mean "extra", stress-relief exercise, not just my scheduled exercise. I found that things like kickboxing are great for defusing stress. I just need to take my own advice more often!! Hate to admit it, but I'm a chronic nail-biter! Goals: My personal goals have pretty much gone down the toliet this month. Such a shame after having such a good June. I'm hoping that all of the extra exercise last month will be enough for me to meet my goal despite my weak showing this month. |

Thanks for the tips, stephannalee! It's been a little while since I've been on it, so the form pointers are greatly appreciated. Oh, going too fast isn't my problem, but I will keep your suggestions in mind. I may try Cardio Coach with the rower. I've only used it for walking/jogging, but it was originally designed for indoor machines. You keep an even speed and vary the resistance. You may want to give something like that a try for jogging, but of course, using it on the road, you have to vary your speed. Nothing wrong with "natural" exercise, anddan. It's certainly the way humans have done it for most of our existence. And finally, welcome to bluegreenmeadow! Awaiting to meet you on your first post! |

I'm sad to say that I have a Concept 2 rowing machine that I haven't been using. You've inspired me to dust it off and start using it for my cardio days. Especially now that it is way to hot for me to go outside and walk/jog. I do enjoy it once I get into the groove, but I've never been out on the water rowing. |

sarah Great topic! Thanks for starting the thread twice a month. mhnyc I think it's fantastic that you walk everywhere. I'm sure it must be inconvenient at times, but at least you are able to do it. Kudos to you! tamisa I hope you start feeling a bit better soon. runninghome I hope that your injury is healed up now. Must be difficult to curtail something you love doing. Topic: I prefer exercising at home, so I've got a decent home gym. I have practically every DVD that Cathe Friedrich has ever made. She has step aerobics, weight lifting, circuits, kickboxing, etc. There are a few beginner DVDs, but most are for intermediate to advanced exercisers. If you want to check her out, she has lots of clips on youtube. She also has a site Cathe.com. I like her style. She does the whole workout and is encouraging but not overly perky. I tried to get a group going in the exercise catagory for CC, but I guess most of the folks who use her DVDs just use her site. I use both. I was alternating weights with cardio 4 to 6 times a week, but I decided to change things up a bit. The last few weeks, I've been doing the New Rules of Lifting for Women. So, I have been lifting 3x a week, but I haven't been doing much cardio. When I do work in cardio, I have been using Cardio Coach. It's nice because he'll talk you through intervals and suggest what heart rate or perceived exertion you should get up to. Makes it seem to go much quicker for me. All that being said, I still like the adage, The best exercise is the one that you'll do. |

Speaking of farmer's markets and the like, I am a member of a CSA. One thing I love is the funky variety of veggies you get. I named this week mutant veg week. The first pic is of giant cucumber and mexican gray squash. The cantaloupe was included for size reference. The second I just call carrot love. Please visit my gallery for the pics.

I haven't been very good at planning what I eat lately. It's a shame, because I usually do better when I plan things out a bit better. I do know that I have to eat enough to not let myself get too hungry before dinner. If I get too hungry, I start eating and have trouble reigning it in. I think what I need to do is sit down and figure out some "interchangeable" meal plans. I've seen similar things in other diet plans, but usually they have things I don't eat on a regular basis. If I can figure something like that out, then I can throw together meals that I know will fit into my dietary "budget". Well, at least in theory! Sorry, I just noticed that I am waaay too fond of "quotes" today. |

Hello everyone! Great topic, tamisa. Sorry that you've been suffering with morning sickness. I do have a problem with emotional eating. I often use food to stuff down feelings. I go into this automated eating state and my mind tunes out (queue up Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb). It is almost like a drug. Especially if I eat things like junk food. I find the exercise is the best remedy for me. I feel more in tune with my body when I exercise regularly. I am on track with my exercise goal. |
