They are delicious sugar filled crap marketed as health food.

Most of what is marketed as "health food" is crap. And it's marketed as an energy bar, so it's still baffling why people who are trying to trick themselves into eating less would take issue with it. It's obviously not marketed toward obese sedentary people. I can't imagine paying that much attention to marketing, anyway. Eating really isn't that hard. If you can't fit a Clif bar into your daily intake because it has too much "sugar," then don't. But some people actually need additional calories. Why get all up in arms about an energy bar?

Just a note for anyone still reading this thread or even the moderators - a LOT of the messages defending Clif bars are by users who have only ever posted ONE message.

Check the user profile of the posters before accepting anything as valid...it looks like Clif has a good marketing team.

I also have never/will never post here again but hopefully this provides some insight into the information here.

You know, I think that company is doing just fine without needing to troll forums looking to convince people that energy bars are good for giving you more energy (aka calories.)

I have no idea how anyone eats a clif bar as a "meal replacement." Do you eat 250 calorie meals? Really?

They aren't "glorified cookies", per se, as the glycemic index is far lower, they actually contain fiber and protein, and the refined carbs in them are much less damaging to your liver (hence less likely to contribute to metabolic disfunction like high cholesterol.) Note that if you are suffering from diabetes or high cholesterol, you've already spent decades damaging your body. You can't expect to eat like a healthy person at that point and heal from that.

But they ARE energy bars, and are great for keeping up your caloric intake.  If you are trying to starve yourself because you sit in a chair all day every day and stop at the gym 3x a week in a misguided attempt to counter the daily physiological damage from living an otherwise sedentary life, I suppose they aren't that beneficial to your health.

But neither is your lifestyle.

You are assuming, without backing up, that female athletes at 15% are truly healthy.

You aren't a medical professional, are you?

You are assuming that the world is not flat. You are not a planetary geologist are you?

Look, logic isn't your strong point, we get it.  There are a number of things you *could* have said in response, and that was probably the most daft.

19% is borderline healthy for a woman. She should not go lower. Original Post by solid555:

How do you measure your body fat? If you are not really 19%, then you probably have less muscle than you think and you ought to keep lifting and trying to drop fat.

But if you really are 19%, then I am not sure your goal of dropping more fat is a good idea. 19% is pretty good for a woman, and as you drop more body fat your muscles will actually become more pronounced and appear larger.

Well, they aren't bad for you. I eat one every day as a snack. I ride my bike everywhere and probably wouldn't be able to make it home without one in the afternoon. It's unclear why people think every thing you put in your mouth must be low calorie or you will gain weight. Listen to your body.   Eat when you're hungry, eat good food, and stop when you're full. Don't eat when you are not hungry.  Your body will take its natural shape if you honestly adhere to that.  Original Post by kristijeancoover:

That's what I was thinking. I get the daily email from calorie count and I always enjoy reading threads/articles, but they always end up the same way. I'm not sure why people have to get so nasty with each other. People ask questions to get answers, not have people bicker back and forth over everything. They want opinions on stuff they're concerned about. Yes, we're all on "diets" but you don't have to be self-righteous about it. Everyone is going to have a different opinion, don't go bashing someone else because you don't agree! Geesh!
