I have read (Oxygen Magazine) that your post-workout meal should include 0.2 gm protein and 0.4 gm carbohydrate per pound of body weight (or ideal), and for optimum muscle recovery you should take it 15-90 minutes after you finish your last set.

I have mine as a shake: iced coffee with whey protein powder, plain yogurt and frozen blueberries.

I am 51 years old and I have lost 40 pounds in the last 5 months, gained an amazing amount of muscle, and am having tons of fun in my pole-dancing class!

Foods Iced Green Tea--suggestions on making it May 16 2009

I just drop a tea bag in a bottle of water (500 ml) and leave it in the fridge overnight.  Works great, and then I have good strong cold green tea to mix with protein powder for my morning shake.  Actually I make 3 green and 3 red (Celestial Seasonings Black Cherry Berry flavor) every night so I can have tasty no-caffeine hydration in the late afternoon/evening hours.  No sweat/no boiling/no artificial ingredients/no problem.  Easy.

Creams do work but, get this: it's the rubbing in that does the trick, not the expensive ingredients!

Back when I was a teenager (30+ years ago now) I bought an expensive cream and fancy massage-thing to get rid of my cellulite and the marks from my puppy-fat.  I was getting great results with it and congratulating myself when Consumer Reports came out with a study that showed the same results for ANY cream, regardless of ingredients, if it was well-rubbed-in twice a day!

I remembered that 15 years later when I had my kids, and then when I had a huge weight loss with a serious illness, later, and now that I am working on losing again I am back at it.  Even at my age it makes a visible difference within a week in terms of stretch marks and loose skin.  Use any cream you can find (I buy the cheapest on sale) and massage it into all your problem areas morning and night.  It works!

Weight Loss Protein for the poor college student? May 07 2009

Canned sardines are an excellent source of protein and also very high in calcium.  They have more omega-3 fatty acids and much less mercury than tuna since they are a small fish and don't concentrate toxins (lower on the food chain).  Singe serving cans, too.  I like the mustard-sauce ones but you can get them plain and flavor them with whatever.

I also make a cheap protein shake with GNC's whey protein complex: 17 gms protein for 100 calories and about 50 cents (US) per serving.  I mix one scoop with a pint of green tea in a reused water bottle and get hydration, antioxidants and a mild caffeine boost for my workout at the same time.

Hope that helps!

Weight Loss Yes Coffee or no Coffee??? May 06 2009

Caffeine has been shown to improve exercise performance; specifically the number of repetitions you can do will go up if you drink 1-2 cups of coffee before exercising.  If you are a coffee drinker anyway, this is the easiest way to increase the number of calories you burn at each session.

Cutting back on the cream and sugar is definitely a good idea, though I would not advise using artificial substitutes.  Try to eat clean, always.  But don't give up your coffee!
