Health & Support is this enough? Aug 27 2012

Definitely NOT TOO MUCH. In fact it looks like too little, but you didn't write portion sizes so I cannot be sure. Actually it even looks a little like a dieter's menu ...

Use the Food Log to calculate how many calories but it certainly looks like less than 2500 so it had to be moved out of the Weight Gainer forum per forum guidelines.

YOU MUST BE REACHING 2500-3000 CALORIES TO POST IN WEIGHT GAIN FORUM.

As a teen you should be consuming NO LESS THAN 3000 calories a day, and probably considerably more than that for healthy and sustainable weight gain. You are significantly underweight.

I don't have an answer for you on when to increase. sorry I'm new here. but I'm having a hard time getting in 3000 calories a day. if you dnt mind, what are some of the things you eat?? I'm stuck at about 2000 calories :( can't quite get myself to stuff down the rest. p.s I DO NOT HAVE AM EATING DISORDER. I just have a small frame naturally. and get full fast. Any ideas? thanks

If you are having trouble getting in 3000 calories you should not be posting on this forum. If you want ideas for robust >2500/3000 calories meals please check out the stickied thread at the top of this forum for serious weight gainers. They post menus which are great for ideas.

I suggest you keep increasing and keep on gaining until you have reached your goal weight. Definitely do not even consider to reduce your intake. 3000 should be the minimum. You could also consider not to weigh very often, perhaps something like 1 time per month. Don't focus on the weight gain number itself as much as getting healthy.

No one is labeling or insulting you, we are just giving out the facts. And a few posters gave you constructive advice about how to get the cals up.

We understand you are trying hard, but 1000 calories won't help you do anything except get sicker and sicker.

Please seek outside medical and nutritional advice - you should have a support team around you. We can be that support team, but to post in the Weight Gainer forum you need to eat 2500/3000 calories or be trying your hardest to get there.

Unfortunately I had to lock this thread because it's against posting guidelines.

Weight Gain Does this meal plan look good? Oct 10 2011

No it does not look good.

This is a dietary amount of food and as the poster above me pointed out, it does not even add up to the necessary amount for teens to thrive upon. To gain weight healthfully (and to post in this forum incidentally) you need to reach 3000 calories a day (2500 for mature adults). If you need ideas of how to do this please check out these threads:

Are you serious about gaining? If so, we welcome you here and will help you up your cals. But the bottom line is the above meal plan is NOT enough. Will you increase your cals to gain? Are you seeking professional help (nutritional and medical)?

Weight Gain Starting BMI and goal BMI? Oct 10 2011

I do not support these kinds of threads. This forum is a WEIGHT GAINER forum (NOT A RECOVERY FORUM) and we try to look forwards not backwards. I do not want people posting their starting BMIs here.

Also you need to post here and agree to the guidelines before posting threads. Otherwise your threads risk deletion.

To all weight gain forum members: please read & respond that you agree before starting threads ....

Thanks.

This is a dietary or starvation meal plan and we cannot and will not tolerate it in the Weight Gain forum, where it is not a recovery forum but a serious place for WEIGHT GAINERS. To post, you must be already eating or nearly close to eating 2500 calories a day (3000+ for teens).

If you need ideas and inspiration for good weight gainer meal plans check out the Weight gainers! What did YOU eat today? Sep 17 - Oct 17 thread.

  • Yes you need to gain weight.
  • There is a 2500 minimum to post in this forum, or you must be sincerely trying to get there.
  • There is nothing "not too drastic" about 1400 calories. It is a dietary/starvation amount.

Weight Gain Consequences of dropping calories a little from 3000? Oct 09 2011
15:18 (UTC)

Please don't drop your cals. It is a slippery slope. Instead replace some of your foods with higher calorie foods so it is easier to take in the daily regimen. Dropping your cals quickly can become an excuse to avoid food and evetually relapse. Stick with it, it WILL get easier. Post on the Weight gainers! What did YOU eat today? Sep 17 - Oct 17 thread for support and ideas.

Keep it up everyone - I am seeing some great WG meal plans and delicious foods! I would love to see everyone up at 3000 before this thread is over - and remember all teens must reach 3000 to post.

According to your previous posts your nutritionist put you on a 2500-3000 cal meal plan. Therefore if you are heeding her advice you should have no problem sticking to the guidelines.

If a poster is on a particular medically supervised plan, we are not here to tell you to go against your doctors. We may tell you to seek a second opinion if the advice seems way off. However, for this forum we do have a 2500 calorie minimum. It's just the way it is. It's based on the fact that the average person maintains on 2200 calories (myself included at 5 feet tall!). Therefore to gain 1lb a week the average person needs 2500 calories a day (300 extra cals a day = 1 lb per week). Teens and young adults need more, because their metabolism is waaay higher than a mature adult.

Your BMI is 13, so I do advise you to listen to your doctors and nutritionists because quite frankly I am afraid, since your BMI is so low, that if I tell you to do something it could hurt you. Please listen to your medical team and try to get better. Because not reaching 2500 and saying it's ok b/c you are "gaining" just sounds like excuses delaying your recovery to me.

He is just looking out for your best interests, that's what parents do. If you want to avoid these types of situations next time, I say do some or all of the following:

(1) Just eat what he has prepared for you

(2) Write down everything you ate and that way you can show him and discuss it with him when he comes home next time

(3) Always stay calm and keep your cool, and discuss it with him in a mature calm manner

Why should you be maintaining? You said your stats on the other thread and it was determined you are still at least 7-10 lbs underweight?

scrunchy10, if you are >20 and are reaching 2500 that is within posting guidelines, so please don't stop posting. It would just be GREAT to see you make the next jump up, even if it's just adding 50-100 calories here and there.

snuffles62, great to hear you are willing to try. I think you worded it so great - it's not that 2500 is the exact number, it's just the STARTING point (the lower limit), there is no upper limit.

Take care of yourself guys!

Everyone needs to either post calories or portion sizes and must not talk about food in a negative manner.

snuffles62, shadowylight, scrunchy10: since you have reached 2500 but aren't going over, and that's the bare minimum here, do you think you can try to increase to 2700 or more? To give yourself a little more leeway - what if you overestimated your cals? Then you would be under 2500, please try to increase? Just try it!

kbryson7, are you sure you are >2500 calories? Please confirm or not.

shadowylight, will you consider to go up to 2800 calories? Since you are reaching  2500 maybe it's time to increase and give yourself a loftier goal?
