Then again, if you can wait 'til the 2008 models come out, you could be different and get a Smart ForTwo.  Does this say commuter car or what?!   I want a blue one!

I like the prius.  Also out there for hybred options is the Honda Insite.

Otherwise as far as milage goes, you can also look into the Toyota Yaris and the Honda Fit.  Those cars get around 40mpg.

One reason I kind of shy away from they hybreds is that I'm scared for the first time I have to take it to a garage.  Will they have a mechanic that is qualified to work on hybreds?  Is this particular mechanic going to cost me more just because of his qualifications?  What if they have to order a part?  The hybred cars are so much different than our other cars, I'm just worried about how much the mechanical differences would cost me if it breaks.

On the other hand, my aunt has a prius that she's had for a few years now and it's been very reliable for her and its a nice little car.  She and her husband are big people and they say it's plenty of car for them.  The interior is very nice, and roomy feeling.

Don't know if late May/eary June would work for me since I'm planning on going to the C-C meet up in New York which is Memorial Day weekend.  Yes, St. Louis is much closer to home, but it's still a 9hour drive and so that's kind of another big trip.

Early Fall and we'd be onto something...

Jillian has some great cardio with weights DVDs.  They're fun, she's cool, and it's very inspiring to keep you going.  Awesome that you're going to do this together.  I was totatly stoked when my husband decided he wanted to come to the gym with me.  It's awesome to share in each other's results and successes!
Fitness Do I keep lifting if I'm sore? Apr 08 2007

first off, avoid taking pain releivers such as Advil and tylinol.  That can actually hurt your muscle gain progress.

Personally, even if I'm sore I still push thru and work out the next day.  I'm sore as all He** from cardio and yet tonite I was at the gym for over an hour and a half and I still plan to go again tomorrow too.

If you're just starting out on your weight routine it can be tough especially the first week.  I know when I first started serious weights I had everyone at work asking me if I were ok or if I needed to go home sick LOL!

Hang in there and find a routine that works.  For me it took weeks to refine a schedule.  Keep up the good work.
Fitness Is working out a good excuse to eat more? Apr 08 2007

working out is a perfect reason for eating more.  How do you think I earn all my beers every weekend??   LOL!

Just watch your calories in and calories out and don't let your deficit get too big (500-800 is good).  Keep your balance of fats/protein/carbs in check and you're all good.

hmm yeah my hard drive is relatively small (80gig) and I do have a few games loaded on there  (Everquest, Everquest II, World of Warcraft, etc).  I do however have a full gig of ram, and I hope that isn't the issue!  I have room on my motherboard for more, but I really didn't want to buy more ram!

I'll try ripping with media player then converting.  Thanks for the suggestions!

Awesome that you're getting into a routine that includes weight training.  I know that was really hard for me to fit in and get into habit as well.

I only have about 45min every morning that I do some cardio and then weights.  Here's what my routine looks like:
  • Monday - Chest and Shoulders
  • Tuesday - Biceps and Triceps
  • Wednesday - Back and Abs
  • Thursday - Legs
  • Fri & Sat - Cardio
  • Sunday - Off  (or maybe just a lil cardio.  I'm addicted!)
I try to do different exercizes each week but staying within those muscle groups for each day.  You don't want to do the same thing all the time (or every day) because your muscle will get bored with the same routine and you'll lose results.  I start out each day with about 10-15min of cardio just to wake me up!  As taz says I do a lot of reps.  I probably do more cardio than what I need, but I really like to run!

Hope this helps some!  Good luck training to be tone!
Fitness What is a HIGH Active Heart Rate? Mar 28 2007

At the gym I'm often between 140 and 170.  I've had to turn off the alarm on my HRM since I'm still figuring it out and it keeps telling me that 170ish is too high.  I don't think it really is tho.   I ran a 5K on St. Patty's Day and my HRM said my max was 195ish and my average was 170ish.  I certainly didn't die, and I still had some gas in the tank at the end of the run.

How do I determine my heart rate zones with this VO2 method?  Is it something I can do on my own or is this some physical exam type thing?

if you're a dark beer drinker, don't be afraid of Guinness!  only 125 calories per bottle.  Compared to many regular beers that's not bad! (160-190 calories in regular beers!)

I'm with mollymclashes and katyayer!  If it's something you love - chocolate, potato chips, BEER, whatever - Don't plan on totally giving it up in order to reach your weight loss goal.  It is better to learn to work it into a healthy diet rather than depriving yourself.  Otherwise you're setting yourself up for failure as soon as you allow yourself these banished treats again.   Why be so hard on yourself giving up the things you love only to lose all your progress once you allow them again?  Learn to make it work together and enjoy yourself!

I already ripped everything off my work PC to my iPod, but that was only about 10hours of music of the several CDs I own.  So at least my iPod has something on it!

What I would have really like to have done is figure a way to get the songs off my pre-historic lap top.  that thing has nearly everything on it, but the damn thing is so old the USB ports can't even read my flash drive.

I think I'll have to sit down one nite and just start ripping CDs.  I once ripped nearly everything to my sisters PC so she could share my music and it took probably 12 hours of constant CD flipping.  UHG!

Then I need to get more familiar with the store.  It would be helpful if I could at least sort the genres by 'metal' rather than sorting thru the sea of 'rock'.  Lemme tell you, there's a difference between Justin Timberlake and Korn...

nope I don't already have the CDs on my computer.   What a PITA!  And I just recently installed and updated iTunes, so I am running the latest version.  I'm just not very good at using it I guess.  I wanted to visit the store, but the store button was doing nothing for me.  I've yet to purchase a song!  Everything has been ripped from CDs.  At least I had a good amount of music already ripped to my work PC, but I have more, and I want to buy more.  I'm such a newb!
Health & Support depo-provera weight question Mar 26 2007

I've been on depo since 1998.  I love it!  No more cycles, no more PMS, no crazy acne, no cramps, no more having to buy tampons!

I don't think I gained weight because of depo.  I gained weight because of horrible eating habits and a really poor diet.  I'm still on depo and I was able to change my eating, become more active, and I met my goal weight.  I lost a total of 45lbs.

I get my shot in my shoulder.  I just prefer it that way.  I've also heard about the risks of losing bone density, but I am active and I also take calcium supplements daily.

The only down side of depo (I think) is that it does kill your sex drive.  Lot of people have said that it does the same for them as well.  But as I see it, if my husband knew me with PMS, I wouldn't be "gettin' any" any way!  LOL

I was just looking at ear phones for running!  These are what were recommended to me.   Good sound, only 1 cord  from the set (not a cord from each ear) and not too bad price.  Specifically made to resist sweat and stay on your head.

I always measure when it's dry too and go with 2oz per serving.   the tricky part is trying to find those serving sizes once it's all cooked up.  I guess the best way to do that would be to drain it really well, weigh it, and divide by the number of servings you just cooked.  I'm never on the ball enough to remember that last part.  I cook up 6 servings and once it hits the plates it turns into only 4 servings.   grr...  LOL

Foods Why does draught beer have DOUBLE the calories of stout? Mar 22 2007
04:08 (UTC)

higher alcohol content the higher the calories.   1gram alcohol = 7.5 calories.

to put that in perspective:
1g protein =4calories
1g carbohydrate = 4calories
1g fat = 9 calories

I had to make my own entries for Guinness and tag them cuz I kept getting confused by the entries on the data base.   And yes 1 bottle of Guinness is 125 calories!   So a pint (16oz) is about 160 calories.  Guinness really is a 'light' beer!

Thanks guys.   Yeah I think 500 miles is about what I've heard too.  I'm pretty sure tho that I haven't covered that kind of ground in 6months tho!  Maybe I can push it to 8 or 10months.... kinda like how you put off changing the oil in your car LOL

The size of the person shouldn't make a difference on the wear on your shoes IF you have the right shoe for your person!
