I really like food that can go with me.   Breakfast is almost all in the car (while my husband drives, heehee)   In the morning I slam 4 oz of orange juice- not from concentrate- and grab a yogurt -Dannon slim and fit 80cals, and a hard boiled egg.   The yogurt is easy enough to eat in the car, and the egg shells go into the yogurt cup.   no mess!

Snacks, I like to buy my groceries and then weigh and measure them into baggies and cups as soon as I get home.   Usually I have strawberries, grapes, blueberries, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, and tomatoes.   Keep it in ready to grab cups and it's easy getting out the door in the morning.  Takes a long time to put everything away, but worth it.  Also remember fruits found in the freezer section!  Dole has strawberries, blueberries, pineapple and more.   baggie up a few servings and throw the rest back in the freezer.   no sweetener, no syrups, and still lots of yum!

Lunch I like to either have tuna or turkey in a tortilla wrap with some lettuce and either FF dressing or light mayo.  Look for LA Factory 6" Torillas.  Only 50 calories.  The deli meat again I package into baggies when I bring it home so I only grab 1 serving at a time.   There was some I just got called VIP turkey... I dont' remember who makes it, but it had lower sodium than other turkey varieties behind the counter.  Mighta been Jennie-O.   The tuna I like to mix up a few cans at a time with some lite mayo and then I bring the container to work and leave it in the fridge there.   Tyson has an all white meat chicken in cans that are pretty good to that I like to prepare just the same.  I think that is only 90cals / 3oz.... I might be a lil off on that, but close.

Hope you get something out of all my babbling.   GL!

If we could get this site somehow linked up to a  tread mill and that the site only could be viewed when you were in motion.... hmm   ...or maybe if I replaced my desk chair with a stationary bike...

Anyway, seems there's lots of motivation here.   Just remember your goals and how great it will feel when you get there.   Do whatever moves you and good luck.     ;)

Well good to hear that menus aren't as hugely portioned as resturaunts here!   That will definately help.   And finding all my fruits and veggies was a concern of mine, but if there's plenty of fresh fruit stands available, maybe that won't be so bad.

Guinness, only 125 calories a bottle!  BRILLIANT!  =)

We're planning to stay 5 nights in Dublin then the last 2 nights further west toward Gallway.   We're not planning to rent a car, so I hope the walking really helps me.

Thanks for the kind words.

I weigh and measure out everything into appropriate servings as soon as I bring it home from the grocery store.  Takes forever to put away groceries this way, but it's worth the trouble.   Also convenient to grab and go in the morning when I'm looking for my lunch.

My fridge and freezer are full of little containers and plastic baggies.

heehee just found some of the other tools available here on the site.  I logged my foods for today as best I could.  so I'm right around 1500 calories for today.   I guess that's pretty good.   No clue what I was taking in prior to my dieting adventure.
Also found the tool to track your weight loss.   That's kinda fun.  I back logged my weights over the last 2 months so I can see my trend.   Neat!
I'm really liking this site.   I'm going to pass on the info to my mom and sister who are also on their own diet adventures.   So many helpful tools and tips!

Ironic that yesterday I had just read this thread and logged off the computer when my father in law stops in and asks if we wanted anything from KFC for lunch.  LOL  Well after seeing the suggestion for the Tender Roast sandwich, my decision was much easier!

Thanks for awesome suggestions!   That timed out perfectly!

How about sending the junk food to work with him and have him keep it
there.   Get it out of the house?   That was something I did
here.   For whatever reason our freezer grew an abundance of pizza
rolls.... so I packaged them all up for individual servings and sent
them to work with him for lunch and they slowly disappeared without me
eating them   =)

First thing that comes to mind for me is keep them where you can't reach them... ie. top shelf of the cupboard. maybe i'm just short, but it's really easy for me to forget things are there if thats where they're kept.

Then keep some healthy alternatives around for yourself so you have something to combat your own munchies and you don't resort to your fiancee's snacks.

Add me to the BEER List! I've limited my drinking time to ONLY weekends (when I don't have to work the next day) and drink only light beers (less than 150 calories).

Some tricks for the other beer drinkers out there; first off, I don't drink beer cuz I like being drunk or that I'm out partying all the time. Good beer is just good beer! That being said, some of those 'light' beers disgust me. So, I go with the best of the best, GUINNESS! Only 125 calories a serving!! BRILLIANT! Many of your regular beers have 160-200 calories a bottle!

Secondly, when you're drinking beer remember your water! for every beer I have a glass of water. So far so good!

CHEERS!

will you hate me if I say no?

I take the dog for short walks if it's not freezing out, and if i'm really feeling down on myself I'll spend time on my stationary bike. But nothing religious. >

well, as I mentioned, I'm focusing on portions and food groups. Not so much a number cruncher (unless I'm measuring my portions).
So a quick rundown would be:
3 veggie servings
3 fruit servings
2 protein servings
2 starch servings
1 dairy serving
1 fat serving.

one thing to consider, did you change both your diet and you activity at the same time? Good if you did, but your body may take a bit to get used to it all. From what I understand, first controling your portions and foods will help start the weight drop even without regular excersize. Throw in a regular weight routien and you might actually need MORE calories so your body doesn't get into 'storage' mode. Your body could be telling you, "EEP! less fuel and more energy is getting spent! Save what you can!" hence you're not seeing the weight loss you might expect.

Also, if you've been at a platteau for some time at the same weight, I've been told your body 'remembers' that number and really wants to stay there. so maybe the first few pounds dropped, but now you're stuck. Your body is just waiting for you to stop fighting cuz it's at a familiar spot and thinks the work is really done...

Keep up the fight. You'll win. ;)
