Are you getting enough calories? I don't see any fruit on your list either, in addition to little protein. Natural foods like chicken, fish, meat, eggs, cottage cheese, and beans are best to add protein. Someone might be better at analyzing your total intake as far as nutrients.
I have never felt better since starting my "healthy diet" a week ago. I try to get plenty of fruits/veggies/fish/beans/whole grains, and I take a multivitamin and omega-3 supplement daily. |

| If you are disciplined and can maintain proper form, you don't need a class to do Pilates. Try finding a book or DVD at the library to walk you through the basics. I have a ball and Pilates ring at home. You don't really need any equipment at all for many of the moves. | |||

jredig,
I did much better yesterday! No binging. In fact, after adding up my calories for yesterday, I realized that I almost didn't make what my goal # is, which to me is great, cuz I wasn't overly hungry, even after exercising. I made sure to eat some yogurt a little before my workout, and got some protein in afterwards.
rennai, sorry to hear you had knee surgery. Was it sports related - if you don't mind my asking? Can you ever do high impact again? It sounds like you are doing plenty of other stuff in place of it. brianneo, One other great source of protein is from beans/legumes. I have a great healthy snack recipe that I just made for the superbowl and am still snacking on it. I'm posting it here in case you all are interested: Spicy Bean Salsa 1 can black eyed peas 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained 1 can whole kernel corn, drained 1/2 c. chopped onion 1/2 c. chopped green bell pepper 1 4oz can diced jalapeno peppers 2 chopped tomatoes a little lemon juice, chopped cilantro, salt, and pepper to taste mix together, serve with some blue corn chips. Tastes even better the next couple of days after flavors blend. Yumm! |

I am not a professional, but the trainer that I have worked with has instructed me to do 2 sets of 8-12 reps each, 3 sets if I feel like it. I do the highest weight I can within those parameters. I have also done Body Pump classes for periods of time where we use lighter weights and lots of reps, and frankly I don't think I noticed much of a difference between the 2 methods. I like the first one better since it takes a lot less time. :)
In addition to the weights and cardio, make sure you are stretching really well afterwards. I believe this helps reduce the "bulk". Pilates and yoga are also really great ways to get strong, and stay lean. I try to do a little of everything. You mentioned you weight train almost every day. Do you work different muscle groups? Be sure you rest your muscles for at least a day. And congrats on the cardio you're doing! |

I fell off the wagon yesterday too with about the same excess calorie intake. Only my consumption included chips, ice cream, and hot tamales candy. Geesh. Darn hubby likes to keep the snack cabinet stocked, then try and persuade me to eat them. Sabotage! I wonder if maybe I need to up my calorie intake during the day a little bit so I don't have the urge to binge at night? Like you said, tomorrow's a new day... |

Hi jredig and everyone else! You asked about my exercise/diet etc. I have never been on a diet before but have always tried to eat moderately healthy and have exercised regularly for the last decade. I used to run all the time but my knee just started to bother me so now for cardio I do a lot more elliptical, walking. I also weight train. I did get out of my regular routine over the past couple months with xmas, kids, travel, etc. but am anxious to get back to it. I am counting calories now to try to shave off a few pounds, and be healthy. I have always emphasized working out over food, but now want to try to gain control over both. My portion control needs work, as well as my excessive night snacking. Good luck to everyone here. This can definitely be a challenge so it's good that we have a place here to support each other. I fell off the wagon last night after almost one week of being really good. Darn hubby keeps a cabinet full of junk food/candy and I couldn't resist. Once I started, I felt like, what the heck, I've already ruined my diet for today lol I always seem to want to eat way above and beyond the amount of calories burned when I exercise. |

| Is it too late to join?? I'm so happy to see so many others in the same boat as myself. I am just looking to lose about 10 pounds or so. When I hit the 140 lb mark a couple weeks ago, that was it for me! I am 5'6" and am currently at 138 or so, and my goal is 130. 125 would be nice but little steps : ) I am going to Florida for vacation in the end of March and would love to be at my goal by then so I can look good in that bikini! | |||

I am currently using an Excel spreadsheet to log my food/calories. This has definitely taught me portion control, and kept me from snacking at night too - because I don't want to add those 300+ empty calories to my total at the end of the day either! I am really learning a lot by doing this also. Everyone always hears about "empty calories", but until you write it all down, you don't realize how little room there is for those types of foods if you want to get the appropriate intake of the healthy stuff. And with the portion sizes at restaurants, it's no wonder there are so many overweight people! I wish places would rethink this and go back to smaller portions. I will probably continue with this until I can estimate a meal just by looking at it. Then I will likely have the routine down where I know what foods I need to fit into my diet. One last great benefit for me is the healthy eating. I have learned how great simple fish, fruits, and veggies really do taste, now that I'm not stuffing my face with Doritos and cookies! : ) |

| Hi Brenny! I am new here too. Welcome. Wow! You have lost a lot of weight fast. Congratulations. It takes a lot of commitment to exercise that amount too - particularly with 3 young kids! What is your 1250 cal goal based on? It does seem a bit low to me. | |||
