Weight Loss Can having a desk job cause constant water weight gain? Apr 02 2012
22:57 (UTC)
2

I think this is definitely possible.

I started an office job about four weeks ago (I used to work on my feet in retail and restaurants).

I also started drinking a lot of water and eating a lot healthier (still small portions). For a long time I had been in a difficult situation and was eating junk food almost every day. I also walked a lot and the amount was very small...so I was very skinny but sickly.

As soon as I started this job, however, I noticed having to pee ALL the time, feeling swollen (I wear a lot of rings and can tell in my hands and feet). I am like a different size every day and am frequently uncomfortable. The weird thing is, I should be losing weight with the diet I am currently on, it's mostly healthy consisting of sushi and salad and soup and other vegetables and whole grains and lean protein. I don't eat a lot of calories.

I also haven't had to walk around as much, now that I'm at a desk and it's a 6 minute walk from my house to the subway in the morning (and back). Given the fact that I have already been told by doctors that I have poor circulation (like I needed a doctor to tell me lol)...I would think that all of this, especially 7+ hours a day in a desk, would contribute to this constant water weight gain (and real weight gain) -.-

Hm.

I didn't get any sort of blood tests or anything done. I went to a free clinic, i filled out forms on my medical history, and I was given Ortho Tri Cyclen. The past three weeks I have been taking it. I haven't been more hungry and I actually started eating HEALTHIER and not as much as before and dieting again which has nothing to do with the pill, but all in all it didn't increase my appetite and I have been eating less than before as I started dieting, like I said.

Unfortunately, I have gained weight in the past three weeks. Pants that fit me 1-2 weeks ago and were starting to get loose now don't close. And I lose a CONSIDERABLE amount of weight to fit into them. I would assume I've gained at least five but less than 10 lbs. I eat very healthily.

My first pack ends tomorrow and then the placebo starts Sunday. I'm going to come off the pill after I finish my pack tomorrow. It also caused SEVERE mood swings/crying/depression/me being EMO, basically.

So I'm guessing hormone therapy messed with me. I read on a UK medical site that women on the pill can gain a little more weight the week before their period as well (noticeably) but that once you start bleeding it starts to come off. She wasn't talking about water weight but I couldn't quote her exact words. And yes, she was a doctor.

I can't wait for this extra weight to come off. I wasn't even at my goal! I think I will wait an interval of time before seeing a DOCTOR about perhaps an IUD or something besides the pill.

Anyway so yeah...I definitely see weight gain as a possibility, even if I'm a rare case, because I'm SUPER careful about my food especially when I start actively dieting to loes weight. I even went weeks of eating basically whatever I wanted, and no it wasn't healthy, haha, but I did, and  didn't gain any weight till I started dieting exercising and taking the pill at the same time. Obviously it's the pill.

ACK.

haha thanks so much! that was so much great information!

i'm actually thinking more lacto-veg. not lacto-ovo though. but some of the dairy stuff is tough to deal with cutting out, honestly, like cheeses (which i don't eat that often anyway but theyre sometimes just IN stuff) and dairy and sour cream because i am enamored with the stuff haha, but i don't really eat eggs much.

however i'm not just doing this for the animals, i'm also doing it for me and my health and to help with weight loss. as of today i eat mostly raw food but there is always the occasional non-raw food, like the pinkberry i mentioned or like a baked potato cuz i hateeee raw potatoes.

anyway so yeah. i'm interested right now in eating as much raw stuff as possible. i'll pick up skinny bitch one of these days haha. thankss!

thanks guys

i know there's more to life than being skinny but i've also gained recently due (i think) to birth control pills. (they also effected my emotions and since i finish the pack tomorrow, i am stopping taking them after that).

thanks for your suggestion starffy. unfortunately i've gained the weight in FAT and not water (yes, i can tell the differece) and would like to loes that since my muscle tone is kind of being covered up by all the fat that has recently precipitated. additionally, i'm really NOT interested in building muscle. i honestly find muscular women gross and the last thing i want is to work on building it up. i would rather lose the extra fat i have just gained due to BC.

thanks for the compliments it's really strange but in the past couple weeks i've put on a few lbs. pants that were starting to get loose are now tight or hard to close. what's going on?! am i going to go through a growth spurt AGAIN? i haven't been eating badly!

i don't have a scale btw haha.

i really despise my legs though. especially right now..theyre not toned at ALL. i've been goin through a LOT as far as my family goes (like i moved out of my place with my mom into someone else's place cuz my mom went insane on me) and idk, it's insane.

i put in sedentary in the allowance/expenditure thing cause for the most part lately i am in school or in a car haha. i want to work out more but i am SO TIRED OF RUNNING LONG DISTANCE I CAN'T EVEN TELL YOU. i did it like 2 days ago and i wanna cry, omg. ew.

so i think i'm going to do some pilates and then also take ballet classes again.

but again thanks for the compliments...i just haven't achieved the shape i want. everyone has something they don't like. as fr the prett face etc, stuff, i see it all every day so i really dont think it;s that pretty.

but thanks nayway.

i was considering doing this...tough considering 2 things...

1) i was raised a carnivore hahaha
2) i go out to eat a lot with my bf

the first thing is easy enough cause it's personal choice.
the second thing is kind of like...what do i order? garden salads right?

what if i get bored of them?

haha

i hear raw foodists get REALLY skinny...is that true?

thanks for the quick response, agana! i'm kind of scared of building more muscle cause as you can tell i have enough that i would like to lean some of it down haha. i'm going to look into pilates to see if it really does that! that would be awesome!

will it help me NOT build muscle if i wait an interval of time before and/or after working out to eat? but still feed my body? and what should i be eating keeping in mind that i don't want more muscle AT ALLLLL.

haha life has been busy busy busy and very interesting for me.

unfortunately i'm not having the easiest time with *recovery*.

i kind of found out today that food doesn't make me happy. it pretty much exists to keep me alive. i take no pleasure in anything i eat anymore. lots of stuff actually makes me feel sick.

so idk.

im happy everyone's trying to eat more and be healthy! :)

Congratulations actress!

I'm having a bit of a rough time right now. I've been crying. I stopped a few minutes ago but I don't quite know what to do. I've got like 10 lbs to lose. My mother made a comment about my body that bothered me...although she calls me "so thin" all the time since I've lost weight, she was like "you've still got meat in all the right places...here *points to boobs* and here *points to thighs/butt*"

she's hispanic so to her that's good but to me it hurt so badly because my thighs are the part of my body i'm the most self conscious about and i can't seem to shift these last 10 lbs i want to lose...and i'm REALLY frustrated.
Weight Loss can everyone (women) become a size 0 or 2?? Feb 04 2007
10:23 (UTC)

i have a best friend who is about 10-15 lbs smaller than me (her weight fluctuates as does mine so that's the range) and she has pretty wide hips, while i have rather small hips. i fit into 0's right now but she can only wear 3's, and we are the same height with a 10-15 lb difference between us. her legs would fit into the 0's better than mine do...but my hips are too small for the size 2 or 3's that i own. we both have very small frames but i am around 125 and she is around 110-115 and we ar eboth 5'7" with tiny frames...she is just a ballerina and i do track so the muscle mass is different and it's bothering me lol. i would love to be her weight, then my 0's wouldn't be so tight haahaa. the largest i have been is around a size 5/7.
Weight Loss Just how bad is starvation? Feb 04 2007
10:14 (UTC)
12
i probably shouldn't be talking, what with my ED tendencies running amok on me every so often, but i really think that the whole "starvation" thing is a bit of a myth used to scare dieters. i do think that too little is bad, but there are benefits to a slower metabolism. everyone wants a fast fast fast metabolism to burn all the fat they can in the shortest amount of time possible, but she's right in saying that a slower metabolism means a longer life. all that it really means is that you can't eat crap all the time. taking a good multivitamin and eating 1000 calories of nutrient rich foods in a well rounded diet is not going to kill you, imo. it is actually possible to feel energetic on less than 2000 calories or whatever.

and doctors don't know everything. doctors misdiagnose people and kill people all the time, including people in my family, so they can pretty much kiss my you know what as far as their opinion is concerned.

Weight Loss Why fight an efficient body? Jan 21 2007

its important to remember that WHAT you eat is as important if not more important as HOW MUCH you eat. as the article posted on page 2 stated. also, imho, taking a multivitamin is really important. sure, you can kill yurself on 1000 cals a day, or you can be healthy. everything goes either way. it's all about moderation. eat 1000 cals of REALLY healthy food, or 1000 cals of crap, of diet food or something, every day, and see what happens.

and if i had the choice of eating 1000 or 1800 cals a day and not gaining weight, i would pick 1000. idk if thats just me, but i get sick eating 1800. to me thats a TON of food because everything i eat is pretty healthy and subsequently pretty low cal. yogurt, fruits, veggies, eggs, fish, the occasional chicken or beef (altho i love them i just dont eat them much anymore, no idea why, probably myl iving situation) healthy whole grain breads and cereals... none of that stuff has a ton of calories. i have a really hard time eating 1800 calories if im really eating healthy which is waht i love to do. 1000 is much more comfortable.

i'm personally of the belief that "starvation mode" at the point of 100 or 200 calories, like we are constantly hearing about, is a scare tactic. a "slower [fat] metabolism" isn't giong to kill you. sure, you can slow your metabolism by eating less, and then eat more and gain weight, but your body will stabilize and figure it out and stop gaining weight eventually. it doesnt mean you were starving yourself to death.

la9...how tall are you?

blah. my throat is killing me, specifically my tonsils. i havent worked out at all this week because of finals and sickness...make that the last two weeks except last saturday...its' getting really bad. ive gained a little weight from it.

i am determined to run tomorrow for a long time to get back in the swing of running. especially now that its not SNOWING AND HAILING AND FREEZING IN LOS ANGELES. *ahem*. that made me very bitter.

i am also thinking that i will be upping my protein and lowering my carbs because i eat a LOT of carbs, it looks like, and not nearly enough protein. im not following anything specific but i am going to be eating a lot more lean fish and meat and fowl and eggs. i am hoping to lose a few lbs (which i gained and a few more that i still want gone) by the time i go to houston to see my kind of boyfriend (atm its complicated lol but we were steady for nearly a year...1 year this month actually).

anyway im hoping my throat feels a bit better tomorrow. tea and grapefruit seed oil and cough drops and gargling and idk what else will hopefully help me. its painful to talk or even swallow cuz its messing with my tongue...ew
