| You have to give it to Barry, he's a phenomenal song writer. I saw him live about a decade ago, it was a childhood dream come true for me. My mom used to play his albums when I was toddling around the house. It was also the only concert I've been to without "fragrant air" too. Lol. | |||

Exactly. You can never expect someone to change their mind, sure he might later with someone else, but what if you stay with him and he never does. I've been there and I stayed in a relationship going nowhere for 5 more years after I got the "I don't want to get married" talk. I too, had made it clear that the commitment of marriage was important to me. I learned the hard way that it had nothing to do with me and there was nothing I could ever do or be that would change his mind. Please don't waste your time in a situation that won't make you happy. |

My monthly grocery bill for 1 person could feed double the people down in the States. The cost of living is definitely higher up here! |

Oh I pity you and your crunchy undies, that doesn't sound nice at all! A theatre costumer's trick that may help you though: Mix 1 part water with 1 part vodka in a spray bottle. Spray your smelly clothes and hang to dry (preferrably outdoors for the fresh air). The vodka acts as a deodorizer and sanitizer. It's effective on dry clean only clothes as well. We used to do this with the fancy costumes that couldn't be laundered in house every night during a show run. It will help you squeeze an extra day or so out of an outfit that you don't have enough time to wash. Plus if you're really stressed you can do the old one spritz for me, one spritz for the skirt routine! |

| Foods | Who the heck drinks Green Tea.. Seriously ?! | Jul 16 2012 21:39 (UTC) |

I love tea, I drink 2-3 cups a day, but green tea grosses me out. To me it tastes like dirty gym socks smell. It's like cilantro, I freaking HATE cilantro, makes me gag. I have just accepted that my cranky taste buds will not abide by these things and I live with it. I'm not sure if anyone else has said it, but if I may say, every Bigelow brand tea I have tried is simple dreadful. Definitely go full leaf, and don't under estimate the taste and benefits of black tea: From About.com Until recently, tea research has focused on green tea. Green tea is loaded with the compound epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg), a powerful anti-oxidant. Since the fermentation process used to make black tea converts EGCg into other compounds, researchers assumed black tea had less health benefits than green tea. However, recent studies indicate the compounds contained in black tea - theaflavins and thearubigens - do more than contribute to its dark color and distinctive flavor. They also provide health benefits originally attributed solely to green tea. |

If you can find the time to make your own bread I highly recommend it. It's cheaper in the long run, has less chemicals and tastes amazing! And if you don't have a mixer with a dough hook (which as a student I'm guessing you don't) it's a great arm work out kneading it. My mom had arms of steel when we were growing up. When I was in college I was living off of about $20 a week for food and I made a lot of soup (stores and freezes well) and quick breads (biscuits, muffins, etc.) because it's easy to do with a few staples and I could take leftovers with me for lunches. |

Ok, so I loooooove cheese. Saying to me "Just put on less cheese" will get you a pair of rolled eyes and a scoff. That being said, switching to a really good tasty mozzarella will help. For example even Tre Stelle balled mozza has a better, stronger, fuller flavour than say Kraft, so you'll use less for taste reasons. I also like to add a smattering of Feta. Then it's all about the veggies. None of that silly pizza parlour 3 pieces of pepper per slice, I LOAD it up. Such a nice satisfying crunch when you bite in... yummm! The volume of veggies means I can only eat like 2 slices and then I'm full therefore I have cut down my cheese and crust intake and the taste is nice and complex from the variety of veg. If you want to cut some sodium too leave off the sauce and use a couple of fresh tomatoes, peeled and diced instead, then just sprinkle with italian seasoning. OH man I want pizza for dinner now!! |

I get the night time sugar cravings too. I like to spend my evenings relaxing with my kitties, so I took up knitting. It's so easy to keep saying to myself "oh just a few more stitches, then I'll get up" that it keeps me away from snacks. If I am going to read instead, I'll do it in bed. I hate crumbs in the bed, so that keeps me from snacking while reading. You could also try brushing your teeth earlier than right before bed. Everything tastes horrible right after you brush! Basically it's about finding something that helps you break the habit. After a while you'll stop thinking about it. |

Oh my... She really does like to take it to a whole new level eh? I myself am accident prone, though I have never broken a bone *knocks on wood*. Mostly I have a tendency to land on my face. There seems to be two types of us: the overly cautious, and the under-cautious; I'd say she fall in the under category. I wish you luck with that one! |

I started a Couch to 5K a month and a half ago. They are all over the web if you want to try one, it's so much easier than just running until you fall over, lol. And there are apps too. I downloaded one to my ipod so I have a little voice come on over my music to tell me when to start running or walking and it tracks my progress. My app is an 8-week program but because of a rookie knee injury (minor strain) I love it! After my first 3 weeks I rewarded myself with some really slick Lululemon running gear. |

I'm an agoraphobic and I found a lot of help from some books on mental disorders. I think because I'm very analytical they helped me organize my thought processes enough that I was able to manage or at least predict and mitigate my triggers. And I have a hair trigger; something as simple as the wind blowing my hair around or missing a belt loop on my pants was enough to set me off. I also have a family of disbelievers with a huge history of mental illness on both sides. I managed it all in secret from age 11-28. When I couldn't manage it alone anymore I went to a doctor and got on meds. Lucky for me they are working well enough without major side effects that I can live a (mostly) normal life. My family know now because I talk about it (even if they don't all believe me) it's helpful for me to acknowledge my condition out loud, so I figure screw 'em if they don't like it. It's better they think I'm crazy, than me think I'm crazy. A few books that helped me (I realized my illness is not the same as yours I think some of the principles of interpreting and managing our thoughts are universal): Don't Panic: Taking Control of Anxiety Attacks Hang in there and remember there's a whole ton of us out there and we all have a different solution for managing our mental illness (and we're all rooting for you!), you just have to find yours. Try some different things and see. Maybe you need to work some stuff out on your own before you try meds again (there are a ton to try and you can always stop them if they don't work) or see another mental health professional. Maybe what you need is a counselor and not a psychiatrist (have you done any grief therapy?). |

| The Lounge | How did you relationship progress? | Jul 09 2012 22:05 (UTC) |

I think for a relationship to be successful you have to throw all the timelines out the window. Things will happen at the pace they should, and if you (based on your instinct and not other peoples opinions) feel like things aren't going at the pace you feel is reasonable (too fast or too slow) then you need to re-evaluate. My story: N and I met in high school. We were friends for 3 years and both secretly developed a mutual crush over this time. We finally got together when we were 20. I think we'd been dating a few months when he said he loved me, he was amazing, he'd pop in to my work just to say hi, buy me flowers for no reason. Very sweet. We moved in together two years later. Everything was great for about two and a half years after that. We're not together now (we were for 9.5 years total). Way too long of a story, but my first inkling that things were not quite right was when realized that getting married had been quietly moved out of the equation. Not to be discussed or mused upon at all. For me that was an important commitment and if I'd started to question the state of affairs then I could have saved myself 4 years. BUT then again, I never have to wonder whether it would have worked out had I left him then. Now I know for sure it wouldn't have. I'm still a believer in love though, all these stories made me swoon a bit... Awww |

Oh I have some weird ones on occasion. Nothing mind blowing, but sometimes I want things like dry cereal with a frosty cream soda or carrots dipped in ice water. I can't drink alcohol anymore but I used to love PEZ candy with beer. My cubicle at work is pretty private so I just go with it. Haters gonna hate, lol. |

| The Lounge | Why do tall guys always date short girls? | Jul 05 2012 20:28 (UTC) |

I've been starting to notice how short everyone around me is lately. Now I'm not that tall, I can almost make 5'8" when I stand up straight. I work in a downtown office tower so I see hundreds of people on a daily basis and I swear the general population is shrinking. I'm getting texter's neck just from looking down at people when I talk to them. Even the young kids are shorter, we have college students in the office for the summer and not one of them tops 5'6". Not bashing the short people, heck my mom's side of the family all range under 5'4". I don't need a guy to necessarily be taller than me, but I'd at least like it if I didn't have to bend down to kiss him. If only my ex hadn't turned into a jerk, he was 6'1".

Don't know how helpful this is, but my dad quit smoking in January cold turkey. He had previously had a few failed attempts and then resigned himself to being a lifer (he started at 11 and is now 55). We're not sure what spurred him to finally kick the habit, but he's doing amazing. I liked what he said to me last weekend: "Do I crave a cigarette, you bet I do! Regularly, in fact, but the urge only usually lasts for a few minutes. Really, a few minutes isn't so bad, I'm an adult, I can control myself for a few minutes." So basically he's taking it a few minutes at a time, that way he doesn't feel that pressure lingering over him all the time to not smoke. He simply doesn't think about it until a craving hits. It's a lot easier to have small spurts of willpower! |

I saved up the first half of this season and watched it all last weekend as the most awesome marathon in the history of TV! Some of the characters are annoying, but I think that's what makes the show work so well, you have to have the contrast. I'm seriously surprised they haven't left Shane to rot in a field somewhere though, that dude's gone mental! I am looking forward to Sunday!!! |
