| Winter is coming on where I live- fresh fruit can be pretty awful so sometimes I opt for canned fruit. Green bananas will give me such a stomach ache that I can hardly walk. So I include canned food in my food intake- also froze cherries from the summer fruit markets. | |||

| Tahini is sesame butter- ground up sesame seeds like ground up peanuts make peanut butter. I am the devil- I think tahini on sweet potatoes could be tasty- more nutrition than cow butter! I guess moderation is the key here, just like all other food. Have fun! | |||

| I just bought 5 pretty good sized pumpkins cause they were only 50 cents each- just like you said, all the starving people in America don't value pumpkin. Thanks for the pumpkin soup idea. I have not bought cream style corn cause of the corn syrup in years but maybe I could just stick in some corn instead. I like the chicken broth idea. Better than the milk or cream I was thinking of. All those pumpkins are waiting for me so any more ideas on using pumpkin would be appreciated! | |||

| When we use wheat flour, we grind it ourselves with a hand grain grinder- we get the added benefit of exercise. This also makes us stop and wonder if we really want the bread- I made cornbread last night and used whole wheat flour to go with the corn meal. We live in a small town so therefore can't get the good cornmeal that still has the corn germ in it. | |||

| Thanks for the laugh- my DH is over here going " not dead husband or dyke housemate or dental hygienist or dysfunctional household?" I can't stop laughing. Laughing must be a valid way to use up some calories. | |||

| The key words are Natural and Rancid. Just like wheat germ, don't put peanut butter on the shelf once opened. Rancid stuff tastes nasty and for a reason. I also put better less messed with bread in the fridge. | |||

| Can't resist to a reaction to "canned pumpkin"- it's the time of year to run and get real pumpkins and cook them up. Good old Wallys just had large pumpkins for 50 cents each cause its after Halloween and everyone only wanted pumpkins for decorations. I stacked three in my cart and the clerk looked at me. I said Beta Carotene and she again just looked at me- probably thought I'd said a swear word. So I said, " Like carrots." She just looked at me. The mad pumpkin bandit. Wonder if Ill turn orange?! | |||

| You have fibro? Welcome to the club! Can you get to a pool? I also have a bit of arthritis in my lower spine- walking in water is much easier on the body. Don't worry about having to wear a revealing swim suit. I wear a shirt and shorts- probably look pretty hiliarious. Good luck in your efforts toward health. | |||

| A bacterium must cram all life functions into a very tiny space. Most of these things are controlled by proteins so bacteria are high in protein and therefore high in calories- my hubby contributed this. | |||

| I agree with kittyfatkat- love that name! Sounds like you are asking for validation. Go get help. You are not alone. There are lots of low key loving groups around to help- Emotions Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous- I know, sounds too weird to sit with a bunch of strangers. You would be amazed at how fast those strangers get to be friends and people you can relate to. You've taken the first step, seeking help and questioning. Its time to step a bit further. | |||

Hello Karen, Losing a companion is never an easy thing. Sharing life with fur persons is a noble way to be. I have never doubted that our companions communicate with us; our way of speech is not necessarily the best; its just the most accepted. I have been fortunate to have had close association with fur persons; felines, canines, even a horse. A Shelter Laddie literally put his life on the line for me, keeping a Hereford bull off me until my Dad could get to me. Laddie weighed maybe 40 pounds. His brave actions have been on my mind lately and then I bumped into your heart breaking post. It took me a year to quit wanting to cry when my Will Tweedy feline finally passed on- he was a dog/cat- woke me one day by meowing in my ear- telling me I had left a pan on the stove to burn dry. Anyway, my heart is with you as you suffer. Try to keep the good times with you- hug them in your arms. Give yourself lots of love. Life is going to be crazy for a while but perhaps down the road you'll be able to help another needy fur person. Goddess bless you. |

| Hmmmm. Your fiance came to visit. There weren't exercises you could do together, like maybe touch football?! You could say, Hey, honey, you are much better than a cheeseburger! I'm feeling goofy tonight but you get my drift. Have fun with your fiance- I'm going to be a true old fogie and say that was a sweet time for me- I'm working on 29 years of togetherness now and yes, it is still gorgeous but those first days were the best- my mother in law grouching cause my then to be hubby and me played together too much in the grass! She wanted dignity and I wanted love and playfullness. | |||
| Foods | Fake food | Oct 24 2007 18:00 (UTC) |

| I have no problem telling the truth: I have butter, real butter, in my fridge. I seldom eat it but it is there. Real peanut butter, too. Margarine equals a divorce in my house. My hubby is a super sweety but not when it comes to fake food. Moderation is for sure the way to go. I still eat real cheese but less of it. We still have a hand wheat grinder and we still use it. Also have a Foley food mill instead of a microwave- slower food is sometimes the way to go for me! The only time I ever ate stuff like Cool Whip was when I visited my Mom. Now that she has moved way across the country, I don't have to play with pretend chow. The other day my hubby made dressing for a turkey and I went out to the front garden and brought back real sage leaves for him. | |||

| Health?! I am wondering about your defination of health. I also wonder if you plan to have a monthly cleanse or a yearly cleanse etc. In other words, is this going to be a lifestyle change? You'll be 70 or 80 doing this? In one phase of my employment history, I was a care giver for the elderly. I remember one lady who cried every day cause she could not have a normal bowel movement- she had used artifical means to get her body to do normal functions and now had to use a suppository to get her body to function. Was a pitiful painful mess and I felt so very helpless cause she had done it- like watching someone die of cigarettes. I wish the best for you. For me, I am continuing on a slow but sure path- losing 10 pounds in two months, educating my self on what nourishes and what slowly kills my cells. I hope the best for you. | |||

Hello, I can empathize and feel for you. I started on this site again cause of back pain and cause I was envying those who could walk without a thought about it. I was at 219 or better and thought it fantastic to go to a gym pool and do jumping jacks etc. Big Stupid mistake. I paid for it with hell pain for about a month- but also knew that no matter what a chiropractor or pain pills could do, I had to get some of the weight off. I have gotten about 10 pounds off and still hurt. I still go to the pool- and no I do not wear a swim suit. I wear old shorts and a funky tee shirt- gets discolored from the cholorine so who cares? I have had women say to me, Thank God you are wearing that get up! Now I know that I can wear what I want! I also found from going to the pool that I am NOT the largest lady to get in the water- far from it. There are folks there who use walkers and canes when they get out. I started using a rolling back pack to carry my heavy wet clothes and that helped. I want to encourage you to try to get better. Sitting still is just not going to help you. I walk in the pool for 30 minutes 2 or 3 times a week. I also try to listen to my back and hips and if I don't feel well enough, I don't go or I cut down the time of walking. I also gently stretch my back when I can- put your knee up to your stomach and hold it there as long as you can- or get that leg up as far as you can- stretches the lower back. You can do this lying on the bed. I found that I have arthritis in my lower back plus bursitis in a hip and God knows what is going on in my left knee. Good luck and Goddess bless you on your journey. You are not alone. Chiropractor might help- did not do a lot for me- plus there are different kinds of massage- Swedish is supposed to be gentle. |

I discovered a fantastic pill alternative for my cat when she had thyroid woes- salve! Same meds but in the form of ointment that I rubbed on the back of her ear. Much earlier in my life I earned my keep as a Vet. assistant and even washed cats- sometimes 3 to 5 in one day!! Cats are fur persons. |

That's just rotten about your car. I am also in the East- Eastern Washington! It is so good to hear from someone in the state that I had to answer you. Sorry that we are a mountain range apart. My daughter is in the Oly area and my sister in the Port Orchard area if that counts! Its raining and ugly here, too. Plus some dummies are yakking about snow already! I go to the gym pool at least twice a week. Stay well. Sure good to hear that someone else lives in this state. |

| Depends on you and how your health is. About 2 months ago I thought I would get healthier and started doing jumping jacks etc. in the gym pool- threw my back out and I've been on the road to recovery ever since. I have learned the meaning of patience and persistence- at least I think I have. Pain and the art of sleeping well do not mix. Be careful and try to think about the long haul- are you strengthening or tearing up your body and when you get into your 50s or later you could pay a high price. Just today I came from the pool after 30 minutes of walking exercises and a lady questioned that I was done so soon- she seemed to think you exercised for at least an hour at a time. I said that I could not and would not exercise that long. Moderation or pay- looking like the hunch back or a pretzel is pretty awful. Let alone the reality of pain when your spine has just had it. Take care of yourself, what ever you do. | |||

| Sarahnorton is right- I hope you do find something- any silly stupid thing to giggle about today. I agree. Eating right and taking care of one's self is darned hard work and about a week ago I wanted to have a huge tantrum and scream To Heck with it All! Then I went to a union meeting with my hubby and looked at all the huge huge bellies and wondered if I wanted to really look like that- not that I am a skinny chick, by any means no. I have about fifty pounds to get off my achey joints and God I want more chocolate! I allowed my self two squares of dark chocolate after my sensible supper and that is where I need to be- and sometimes it is all I can to do to keep my inner monster from grabbing a bag of chips when I am at the grocery store. For me the truth is that I am an addict. I do not go to Overeaters Anonymous meetings at this point in time but that does not mean that I am not a sugar and fat addict. I am. One bite of sugar and I am on the slippery slope to more fat on my line backer hips. Maybe instead of thinking about calories and food, sit down and write up a list of things you like to do- anything you find to be fun. If you are embarrassed to dance in public and want to wiggle, lock the bathroom door and go for it! I've gotten on kiddo swings and had a blast when I thought noone was around to frown at me. Stay well. | |||

| Not sure what you mean about being a hippie. My husband and I don't do drugs. We used to have a small place in Idaho's back woods- anything done happened by hand- water from the creek, trees downed with a cross cut saw etc. We still have hand wheat grinders though we do have electricity these days. We now live in a small urban environment and one Halloween I heard a kid coming down our front path saying, "This place is spooky!" cause he had to walk under a copper arch that my hubby had made and wisteria probably tried to grab the kid. We still have gardens all over the place while our neighbors are Stepford type people with their lawns. We have one 100 watt solar panel. I feel like one of our fat cats cause we don't heat with wood anymore- my lungs won't take that any more. We hang our clothes to dry and don't use a microwave or dish dryer or a cell phone. Yup. Do have a computer for sure though no cable TV. We still read books and also write books and poetry! Both of us tend to listen to Enya or other not so new age Celtic musicians. Sometimes I think about the vegetarian lifestyle- I feel like a hypocrite cause I eat meat but can't kill critters to eat them- have to have someone else do that. My hubby is the one who could kill the chickens and rabbits. I closed my eyes. We also drive a small Toyota. Not a hybrid- wish those hybrids got better mileage- almost the same as our non-hybrid. This has gotten to be a jumble. Living in a commune would be a lot of hard work if you cared about things cause I have found that generally in a group a few work and the rest just want to eat and sleep. Reminds me of trying to find someone else to talk about poetry with in the community that I live in. I consider my hubby and me to be urban homesteaders. If I lived in a more with it town, I would have three hens at least. We have plenty of land for hens and rabbits. Our stinky town considers such useful animals to be livestock. Loud obnoxious dogs are fine. Not hens that would contribute useful manure and eggs. Thanks for listening! | |||
