Blatant ridiculousness of the science aside, an article on the creator of this diet cites that he maintains on 1200 calories on this diet, including the oil. I'm none too impressed. |

Definitely agree, trhawley. "Stuffed" does not mean full to me now, not hungry does. I've found that I can snack on bits of whatever and not feel as full as if I ate something that I'd classify as a meal, even if they're the same total calories and macros. I don't tend to think about food after a meal, but when I snack, I'm constantly contemplating what I can snack on next. |

My plateau came right at 10% too. I think 6 months was a good idea for someone in my situation, as I'd get a better feel for how to maintain a weight. |

There's no need to be defensive, we just want to know how accurate the formulas are as a comparison, in case we don't have $100 to spend on this. The question is asked of pretty much every poster that says he/she got a BMR test done. |

I'm having the opposite problem, and I have to agree that compromise is key. I'm only barely watching my weight anymore, but my man has decided to get healthy. I'm a total foodie, and I get mad when he doesn't want to go with me to whatever restaurant I'm dying to go to because he doesn't want to eat that much or doesn't want to eat such calorie-dense food. And I refuse to eat Subway as a "dinner out." I know I should be more supportive, but eating out is one of my favorite hobbies, and he signed up for foodie me years ago. We don't make plans either. So now, we go where I want every other week, and the other weeks, he picks or I cook. I've also compromised on his workout schedule, because although I feel that those hours are much better spent entertaining me, it's also pretty fun going to the gym with him or having time to myself. I think that your problem is something that time can iron out. If you've been one way for three years, it may take some time for him to get used to your new schedule. It sounds like you both need to actually talk about this instead of letting it go with the flow if he's getting testy. |

If he's gotten more active or started eating healthier with you, even if he's not trying to lose weight, that's something that could make him feel a lot better about himself and so increase sex drive. Or he could be supporting you by helping you work off calories ;)

I would try to eat something light before I go. That bread basket starts to look very good when you haven't eaten much all day. |

| Weight Loss | What are your favorite "YAY-moments"? | Feb 23 2010 19:24 (UTC) |

I didn't/don't have much to lose, but my favorite yay moment was when the first two pounds came off. It made me really say wow, because they came off and stayed off. Even if they were just two pounds, they were the beginning of the downward trend, and they didn't come back. It showed me that weight loss is a pound-at-a-time venture, and really, every pound gone is a victory. |

I don't count anymore, but I don't think there's anything wrong with what you're doing. Like pg, I sometimes have a mental estimate of what I'm taking in. I think at some point, you should be able to maintain without counting, if that's what you want to do. But to me, counting while maintaining seems like a security blankie. I try to trust that I know what I need in terms of input/output. If you don't like feeling obsessed, maybe try counting at the end of the day instead of throughout the day. And when you're right on every day for a while, maybe then you don't need to count at the end of the day anymore. |

LOL I think we'd all like a pizza dangling in front of us for motivation! It sounds like you don't really like the walking part, which I didn't either. One of the tips my running coach gave me when I first started out was to not walk your rest periods, but run at a walking pace. Running and walking use different muscles, so slogging it in running form will be more helpful to you for long distances than walking, and you should be able to recover almost as well. If you can't run slowly without feeling like you're using more energy than running fast, it sounds like you need to relax and let your stride dictate your pace. I think you should look into HIIT, but probably not until you've built up a little more endurance. I think the beginner HIIT programs tells you to sprint for 30 seconds, then recover for 1 minute 30 seconds, and repeat 6 times. You should probably be able to run continuously for 15-20 minutes before trying. |

Getting out there is the hardest part, so you're doing great. It's definitely okay to take some walking breaks. As was said, take it slow. Make sure your hands are loose and not clenched, because you use energy to clench them. Make sure you're breathing well. Do a warm up and a cool down, and make sure you stretch after each. |

| Weight Loss | I need help plz on how to get active! | Feb 17 2010 21:12 (UTC) |

The whole "I'm in school all day and then have homework" is just an excuse to me. I know, I used to use it. But now I'm at work all day and I have grad school all night, and I'm still active. What is key for me is having friends who like to do things. You don't have to go to the gym every day, but I run because it keeps me in better shape to do activities with my friends. There's always something going on: snowboarding, paintball, lasertag, basketball, soccer, random water balloon fights. Even for things like swimming and racquetball and hiking, it's for fun, and the calorie burning is just a happy by-product. And you can always join a community team for softball or any other sport. |

Original Post by deiseblue: LOL! Oh, your comment made me look crazy in front of my co-workers (because work isn't funny!) I actually only have 1 female friend that I can play with, and she moved an hour away. It makes me wish jkub lived here, because it's too hard to find other girls who can play. So I do end up playing with guys, but it's kind of hard to play with people who are that damn tall. But yes, half-naked sweaty guys = real pick-up ball! I did have a great time snowboarding, though I ended up teaching most of the time. I expected that though, and it was still fun. Got a lot of calories burned from hiking up and down the slope lugging my snowboard. I've wrangled a promise from my man that he'll come snowboard next weekend, so that'll be a hoot. I'm also supposed to actually go paintballing, and I can't wait. I found a camo shirt deep in my closet :) |

I like to read on a recumbent stationary bike. Reading is much more intense than watching TV to me, and sometimes I get bored just watching TV. I've also spent the entire time text messaging some of my more amusing friends. I run outside with my iPhone. It's got a timer and iPod, so it's absolutely critical whether I'm distance running or doing intervals. Intervals are usually so intense that I don't really need music, but the timer is pretty crucial. And it's got a map with GPS positioning, so that one time when I felt like I could run forever and actually tried, I realized before I got lost that the route I was taking did not loop back home without a really long detour. Good thing it's got a phone too, in case I didn't check the map... |

Thanks, nfrank! jkub, you should really, really just go out and do it (snowboarding, I mean). It's fun, but the bonus is, it burns a load of calories and you don't even notice until you're ravenous on the way home! Well, except for the initial falling and getting up stage... So how was the gym + hoops? Well, today's V-day, and there's no chocolate in sight (I don't know if that's good or bad...) I didn't manage to go snowboard Friday night, but I am waxed and ready to go all day tomorrow! I hope that makes up for my nonaccountability ;) My run and basketball hopes for the weekend were dashed, though I could probably fit at least the run in today. I want to do something more active with my man, but I don't think he thinks of paintball as a Valentine's day activity... Happy Valentine's Day, if anybody checks in today! Hope your weekend went more accountably than mine, and hope we all don't overdo it today... |

Hello, Team Bandwagon. Mind if I join you? I just (okay not JUST) realized that I ate too much between Oct. 31 and Jan 1. last year. I lost 2 pounds from being sick, but apparently that's not the "right" way to do it ;) I've got all these plans to get some exercise in, so hopefully if I tell somebody what the plans are, I won't just pretend I never made the plans in the first place. So... I plan on going snowboarding tonight, I plan on going for a run tomorrow, and I plan on playing some pick-up basketball this weekend. And I plan to NOT eat my weight in chocolate on Sunday. Have a good weekend! |

| Weight Loss | How is this possible staying the same weight I mean...? | Aug 27 2009 07:58 (UTC) |

I think maintaining while counting calories is tough, if you don't know how many calories you really expend in a day. The site numbers aren't perfect and don't conform to you uniquely. But if your output is really 1550, and you eat 1700, it may take a long time to gain that one pound of fat, especially when you take into consideration the normal fluctuations. I ate above what I thought was my maintenance for a couple-month period and didn't realize the 1-2 pounds I gained for weeks after. So it may be that your daily calorie expenditure is higher than you think, or it could be that the 150 calorie difference isn't big enough for you to see a gain yet. Or that you're making up for an excess by having a deficit on another day. |

Unfortunately, these "alarm clocks" also have snooze buttons, designed to allow the owner to slam them and go back to sleep. I don't think it's the logistics that are the problem with waking up earlier. |

I was going to say, sounds like you overestimated the chicken, but looks like you've figured that out. Almost 300 still sounds a little high, unless it's a huge chicken leg. Are you really eating 1700 calories in vegetables and bread? That's a lot of vegetables and bread. |

| Fitness | would this be considered HIIT and is it really better than a constant intensity? | Jun 19 2009 19:30 (UTC) |

You don't have to walk the "down" interval, you can do a slower jog. That would probably average out to about the same rate of speed. I guess high intensity is subjective if you're comparing to other people. But for just yourself, a sprint is a sprint, isn't it? I don't think it's actually high intensity unless you're running at 80% at least. I like to do HIIT on a track too, but I do it by 200s. I don't think I could sprint a full lap more than twice. |
