Foods What To Eat For Breakfeast May 10 2007

I have the luxury of not having to be to work until 9 or 10am, yet I still find myself grabbing something out of the fridge at the last minute.  I keep around yoplait light smoothies, any kind of fruit, oscar meyer ready-to-serve bacon (takes 15 seconds in the microwave, packaged in 3s, and 3 slices are only 70 cals, 5g fat, 5g protein).

I've also been keeping a jar of Planter's sunflower seeds in my drawer at work.  If I don't have time for a big breakfast, I'll just grab a piece of fruit for on the way and then snack on one lid-full of seeds when I get to work.  Just have to be careful not to go overboard with them.

Weight Loss Body Weight Set Points and How to Overcome them May 03 2007

Hey anniemarie, I'm in the same boat as you!  There were two weights I've been stuck at for the past 5 years.. 182, and 186.  When I hit 186, I was there for quite a while, even though my weight fluxuated way up and way down.  It took a few weeks to permanently say goodbye to that number.  But it wasn't as long lived as 182.. wow that number just hates letting go of me!  I've spent about a month there, but I didn't give up.  I zigged, I zagged.. my weight zigged and zagged too.. but most days, it was 182.

I'm happy to say, that I've finally dropped into the 178 to 180 range!  So I definitely believe that there are set numbers your body is comfortable with.  But just keep working, never give up.  If you've really made permanent changes, you have nothing to worry about anyway.  Just stick to your permanent lifestyle changes, eat healthy, exercise.. and the weight will take care of itself.  No matter how stubborn it is.  It's just testing your patience.. seeing how badly you really want this!  :)

Weight Loss High Cost of Losing Weight & Eating Healthy? (But so worth it!) May 02 2007

m3lody..  I don't mind drinking tap water, filtered or not.. it's just when I'm at a game, or the fair, or a concert, and just want something to drink... it's always more for water.

I'm so with you on the Ramen thing!  And why is bottled water more expensive than soda?  That seems so backwards to me.

With the lean meats thing, I just like to think I'm getting just as much meat for my buck buying lean.. they're paying for pounds of fat I wouldn't eat anyway (I cut it off/drain the grease).

I think food's cost should be equivalent to how many calories it is.  200 calorie meal, $2.00.  1200 calorie meal, $12.00.  Maybe that would change the way this country looks!
Weight Loss questions about starvation mode May 02 2007

And as for breakfast, you don't gain weight immediately from not eating it, no.  If you're not putting any food in your mouth, your body can't pull fat out of thin air.  But if you're trying to lose weight, you really need to eat breakfast, because it keeps your metabolism fired up and gets you burning more calories just staying alive, earlier in the morning.

It could be a miscommunication between you and your friends.. maybe they're thinking overall, not immediate...

You're right, if you starve yourself, you won't immediately gain weight, you will lose... slower, and slower, until it stops.  But eat one bite more the next day, and it will stick to you like glue.

whoa, there.  First thing you have to realize, is that if you want the weight to stay off, you have to accept that it's a slowww process.  A weight loss of .5 is really good!  And you can do it again.  And going up from 210.3 to 212.5 is really NOT that bad.  My weight fluxuates that much everyday!  But my overall trend is still going down.. slowly but surely.  Let's get you back on track!

Step one.. get back to calorie counting and keep exercising.

Step two.. get a measuring tape and write down your measurements.  Then, no more measuring until 1 month from now.  Just KNOW that you're shrinking!

Step three.. weigh yourself only ONCE per week.  At the same time of day, same day of the week (preferably in the morning, before you've eaten anything, after you've gone to the bathroom).  It can be frustrating if you weigh yourself too often.  It just makes you want to quit.  I've noticed that I can be really good, but I don't see results from my being good for a couple of weeks.  Give it time!

Whatever you do, DON'T GIVE UP!  Just think, in one month, you could weigh between 2 and 8 pounds less, or you could quit now, and weigh the same or more.

bugs.. any bugs.  And I'm terrified of dark basements.  I always feel like someone's behind me.

And since we're talking about it.. a couple of years ago, I had to stay in the hospital for a couple of weeks after a bad car accident.. I learned then that I cannot pee laying down (in a bedpan).  I went about 36 hours without going because it just would not work.  I was actually in a lot of pain, and really wanted to.  I was never so happy to see a catheder!
The Lounge Any violinists out there? May 02 2007

I don't play any string instruments, but I do play other instruments (clarinet, piano, percussion.. hence the name, prkushun ;)), and music was my life all through my school years.

I would check your local pawn shops, flea markets, or garage sales (not sure what they call all of those in the uk) for a used violin, and then you can find some very basic books in any music store.  They can get you started on reading notes and even squeaking a few notes out!  Once you become an expert and decide this is what you really enjoy, you can go out and buy a more expensive instrument.

Maybe even check with a local school and see if the music teachers there give lessons, or knows someone who does.
Weight Loss Nivea body good bye cellulite patches? May 02 2007

I remember seeing on Oprah that there is nothing any cream or patches can do about cellulite.  It just has to do with fat cells pushing out on your skin, and no cream is going to get inside there and smooth them out.

meggie, I know steroids can really mess things up and make people gain a lot of weight.  I had a friend on steroids for her asthma, and she had the same problem.  I would suggest you talk to your doctor about your diet, and hopefully he/she can guide you in the right direction.

But you really need to get back to eating a healthy number of calories, because that is definitely NOT the way to lose weight.

Don't quit now!  If you're craving junk food, put 100 to 200 cals worth in a bowl, and tell yourself that's all you're allowed for today.  THAT's IT!  If you mean you're eating junk for your meals, just limit your portions.

You don't want to start all over again, do you?  You've been doing so good!  Eat at maintenance level if you must, but don't let it all go!  It's not worth it.

Yeah, my husband and I both work about 30 miles from home (opposite directions, and we live in the middle), so coming home at lunchtime isn't an option.  My job is pretty flexible, so maybe for the first couple weeks I could try working half days, or working home some of the time.  I'll also see about having a dogsitter.

When I was little, our neighbors had a dog which had these exact traits everyone talks about with border collies.. so I'm sure she was at least part border collie.  She would escape the yard all the time (she learned to jump higher, and higher!) and would often come home pregnant.  Frisbee was her life, though.  She would do ANYTHING for you if it meant you throwing her frisbee!  I picture this puppy to turn out like that.. and I plan to spend a LOT of time playing with her, for her entire life!

I did consider adopting an adult dog, but we have a cat who's already a little nervous around dogs.  That's why I wanted to get her while she was small.. so Louie has a chance to get used to her.

That's very interesting about not coddling her when I leave her in her crate.  It makes sense, though.

Thanks everyone!  I'll also have to get a book.  And some puppy 'oopsie' carpet spot cleaner ;)
