Do you have a windowsill that gets some daytime sun?  I have some basil growing in a container on my kitchen windowsill, and it seems to be doing pretty well.

(I don't have a green thumb either.  The only reason my plants are alive is because I figured out how to work with the drip irrigation system that already existed when we bought our house.  Thank you former owners!)

I love herby things too.  We have mint growing wild around the backyard, and now we have thyme, basil, sage, oregano, rosemary, cilantro, chervil, chives, and parsley growing in containers.  Our backyard is apparently perfect for growing herbs because they shoot up like weeds.  It's rad.

Oh crap - I hope I wasn't offensive - I was coming from the idea many people think that it's easy to monetize blogs, that's all.  In fact, I did, but observing the countless hours my brother has worked to get his blog 'out there' did a lot to dispel my misconceptions.  :)

I think you should definitely write.  Just know that it's nearly impossible to bring in any real money until you grow your audience pretty large.  Networking helps a lot.  Like, my sister's fitness-related Facebook page has over 5,000 likes, and she got a lot of those by posting stuff on twitter and connecting with likeminded people, and getting mentions on other fitness people's blogs.

Yeah, it's pretty cool!  It took him like five years of toil to get it to the point it's at now.  He now has press credentials to sporting events, and he gets to interview athletes, but for a long time he was just writing opinion pieces after scouring statistics and public record stuff.  He worked super hard.  It also helps that his wife, my sister in law, is an online sales representative for a major TV network, so she knows how to sell advertising.

We kind of did that ('we like it and this is what we have!') by having maple bacon cheesecake. I know some people don't like cheesecake at all, let alone with bacon on it.  We did have a couple of other flavors, though, in case some [crazy] people did like cheesecake but didn't want bacon in their dessert.  :)
