Give soda bread a try too - it doesn't need any rising and uses standard flour not specific bread flour. Very popular in Ireland. I frequently knock a batch of soda bread rolls up when making a soup.

http://www.europeancuisines.com/Peters-Mums-S oda-Bread-Recipe

Edit: I didn't spot the comment about dairy ... sorry, guess it's not going to be much use to you then :(

I read the page and did see about the butter milk, I can alter it by using lactaid milk and souring it with vinegar.

I like this bread recipe, first because I am of Irish descent and also it seems easy enough. Thanks I may try it this weekend.

oh and making bread is a chore too, very time consuming.

Agreed - unless you can get hold of a breadmaker. They take the hassle out of fresh home-made bread.

I still do it the old-fashioned way, on the occasions I have the time. Soda bread is quick though, so that might be an alternative to try. Savoury scones are another option, but fattier than bread.

I do it the old-fashioned way too, My sister gave me a bread maker but I've never used it. I just don't want to learn how to. I make 5 loaves of whole wheat, and usually 24 submarine buns every Saturday. It's an all day event. Heaven Forbid it I get a late start, I'm up until midnight if I do.

I've never tried sour dough though. If it involves dairy I wouldn't be able to have it, but I used to love sour dough bread from the store. I can only imagine how awesome it would be home made.

Hmm, I really want to use some of the chicks I get for meat but I've been reading this morning about processing and I just don't know if I've got what it takes to do it.

about the salty, there is a standing joke in our house when we have a dinner from the "salt of our brow" Someone will compliment the meal and my FIL would always say it tastes a little salty to him. Now I use that saying as I sweat my rear end off growing it. tee hee hee.

That all sounds yummy! I made an eggplant/tomato/beef/lentil/wine thing, which turned out pretty well.

But Dave, you're right to brag, am particularly impressed by the sourdough bread.

Ever since watching "Food, Inc." we have set out on a campaign to become as self-sufficient as possible. We've expanded the gardens and next year, we plan on raising chickens and pigs. Our local rancher has 40+ cattle that are organic, grass fed and our cost averages ~4.50/lb for some of the best, healthiest beef around.

I haven't purchased beef in the supermarket since March and our next purchase from our rancher will be for a side.

"Food, Inc." was definitely a turning point in our efforts to get as self-sufficient and "off-grid" as possible.

BTW...We're growing eggplant and I've got an awesome Thai Basil Eggplant recipe if you'd like. :)

Food inc. had the same effect on me. My chickens are now almost 2 months old. I should have eggs by Jan. We are getting ready for a family grass fed milk cow and hopefully "fingers crossed" will raise our own grass fed calf every year.

I am not sure I am going to be able process my own chickens though. I'm not sure I am going to be able to handle the feather smell while processing.

I did eggplant this year for the first time too. Mine didn't get as big as I'd hoped.

Your dinner sounds delish. You should be proud of the accomplishments. It's a lot of hard work. One question   Did it taste a little salty?

So, what did you think?  I'm not a Justin K. fan but I  thought it was good.  I have watched the show since it's inception.  Too bad about Charlie, but I think Justin may make the show just fine.

Who? You mean Ashton?

My family was a fan of 2 1/2 men. My hubby and I didn't think it was the same an missed Charlie but my boys age 16 and 11 are HUGE Ashton fans. They watched him on that 70's show. I think if anything the show will have a younger following.

We went to a used appliance center to purchase a new fridge for our garage, AKA the pop & beer fridge. We found an "all fridge" fridge for $125.00. It was newer than the garage fridge that took a crap on us and it offered much more space as well. It had been in a commercial establishment, but it didn't have the glass sliding doors.

^DITTO  Only I keep our second hand fridge on the front back porch.

I LOVE my job, but I always did not have a job I loved.

When I was working the job I hated I had a big beautiful house that I rarely got the chance to enjoy. My two older boys grew up barely seeing me. We ate out all the time, bought clothes at retail, had the best most up to date electronics etc. I gave up that job and it was a very rough period adjusting to the lower income while I was in school and on the hunt for a job that I wanted.

Now I have a job I love, still have that house but live on my husbands farm and make ends meet by gardening and putting away my food, buying clothes second hand and raising chickens and soon will have a dairy cow. I work hard now at home to make what I used to buy. I actually enjoy it. Go figure!

We are going to put the big house up for rent (decided not to try to sell it is this economy) and let someone else pay the mortgage.

I've never been happier.

I am the same weight as you and am 5'5". According to bmi charts I am overweight. I am a d cup and have a booty so I feel like it is unfair to be labeled overweight. Though I suppose I could stand to lose 10-20 lbs I don't feel I'm overweight either.

Bunny, you are so pretty! I am confused because I have gotten the impression from your posts that you had issues with your appearance. Or do I have you confused with someone else?

Anyway good to have a face with the name.

Roxy, I went through a lot of the same things you are going through. Pt, ortho surgeons, MRI, bone scan, pain pills etc. When you have an injury or vertebra that is out of line for a long period of time you get serious ligament and muscle issues that take a long time to correct. Sometimes you don't get 100% recovery, I will only ever have 85 %.

After dealing with all the same frustrations you have posted I finally visited a deep tissue massage therapist. I think going to a chiro is a very good idea, but you are going to need to get the areas around your injury loosened up in order for the chiro to be able to re position your bones to where they need to be.

I went to the chiro for nine months before I decided to visit deep tissue massage. The chiro just could not get my spine to move enough to correct it. After two deep tissue sessions the chiro got the bones to move and my pain decreased 200%. Everything was like cement around that vertebrea and all knotted up. Once that cement was loosened my bones could move back where they needed to be.

You will need a very good massage therapist. In my neck of the woods we all like to think we have the best in the country. He very well may be. Save yourself some money and get massage as soon as possible. It will cut your chiro appointments down by a lot.

On another note I hate iPads auto correct

Many people were nice to me by replying to a post I made

I was nice to a co worker today by sitting and talking with her about an issue that torments her. I think she felt a little better just being able to tell someone how she was feeling. Her son committed suicide almost two years ago.

I think I am going to stop dating or attempting to date for good.

Honestly I've never been glad I dated someone and nothing pans out.

I'm not letting this guy ruin my whole outlook.  I've been pretty down on dating for a while, but this is just another drop in the bucket of disappointments and confusion.

I was a little unsure of his interest until he texted me this morning and told me I looked cute.  He then asked me to call him twice.  Let's assume he wasn't ever interested...how do I interpret his actions?  It makes me feel weird, like I have no clue what anything means.

Once I came to that conclusion and gave up is when my DH appeared in my life.

rboxer, this is sort of off topic, but is this kid a bully? It sounds like they've worked it out. Your son might not welcome you into however he's dealing with this problem.

No it's not worked out. There is some sort of competition/jealousy with the entire family. His mom is the same way with me. I'm not sure why. I really liked her and still do to this day, but for some reason they seem to always give us trouble now. We used to go on vacation together, I took 'M' skiing etc etc. It started when my DH and I were separated. My "friend" went to him and told him all sorts of things I had confided in her. Right down to how much money I spent when we went shopping together. There was a mental hygiene put on the dad a few days ago so I think know there is serious family stress there and has been for a long time.

The fight a few months ago at school was because a girl that "M" liked wanted to 'go steady' with my son. So  "M" attacked him.

So we have to deal with this as a family. I really miss them too, but know I can't trust them.

You don't have the facts, I don't have a facebook. I am not his friend. I assure you I am seeing everything. Do try to keep up. I said my email is his and I get the messages in my inbox. You know not every 15 year old is the same.

No need to get snarky with me.

I'm saying that it is very possible that your son (or any 15 year old whose mom monitors his/her FB) could have created a second account, of which you are unaware (that kind of being the point). I'm also sure he knows how to create his own gmail/yahoo/whatever e-mail account to sign up on facebook with... again, of which you are unaware.

Yea, your right that was snarky. I thought that after I posted. It was uncalled for and I'm sorry.
