I eat pretty clean, my grocery list kind of combine health and quick/portable foods because I am pretty busy during the week : bananas, berries (whatever is in season) plums, grapes, nectarines, minute oats(?), green tea, fish, brown rice, whole wheat bread, tuna (in the tin for sandwiches), sardines, eggs...I can go on and on...HTH |

Well I also believe that the fashion industries portrayal of women is quite sexist as well but that's beside the point. You say the industry is riddled (?)with eating disorders yet gave me proof of celebs with eating disorders. Drugs seems to be a bigger issue in the industry than eating disorders.
I'd just like to add that most models start at around 14. Most are about 16-18 seldom over 20. The typical teenager weighs much less than adult, has less curves (if any) etc. There would therefore be a seperate BMI for them. But my major point is please don't assume that because someone is thin that they are sick/anorexic. If you love yourself for who you are you wouldn't have time to sit around and brood over us disgusting skinny women. |

Am I to assume that being a model equates being anorexic/bulimic? Well then I'm sorry that is ignorant.Obviously in the face of the statistics I presented you still hold an inaccurate opinion. And actually there are alot of naturally skinny people in the world just like there are naturally fat people, we shouldn't be hated on for this. Also BMI is just one indicator of health, it is not the be all and end all of the matter. I have many family members that are "underweight" by the BMI perspective (including my uncle a physician) who are quite healthy and eat ALOT. Thank God not everyone on the board feels that skinny people are starving ourselves. For anyone with an open mind have a look at http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/kurilla4.htm. This bodytype is called an ectomorph.
I'd just like to say that I agree that the fashion industry's obessesion with tall thin models presents an unrealistic/unattainable ideal for other body types and that they should be representative of all body types, heights, races etc. On that note anyone notice how sexist this is? When a man is naturally skinny its "poor thing" but when a girl is skinny she's anorexic? |

I've never posted before just felt I had to comment on this. I am naturally skinny and reading this post really hurts. I've always felt very ugly and gawky and have often over eaten to the point of sickness/vomiting in an effort to gain weight to please other people. Saying that fat people look disgusting and skinny people look disgusting are equally hurtful and ignorant. I am part of the fashion industry and I know most people are very misinformed about models. Most models are naturally thin and have very fast metabolisims. Please have read of www.modelresource.ca/Mediafeatures/Resource/m use_results.shtmll I read alot of comments on here about people loving to have my problem of gaining weight but if you read through this thread you can see that it's not a great life:people saying you look like an 11 year old or you are not a REAL woman (whatever that means)/anorexic. I'd like to add that excessively skinny models are demanded for by the designers from agencies. In turn agencies fill their roster with skinny girls in order to supply the demand. What I'm saying is don't get mad at the models get mad at the designers who feel that skinny models look best in their clothing. |
