Weight Loss Losing weight gained by birth control? Apr 01 2012

When I started BC, I gained 5 pounds in 10 days! I had a follow up appointment after 10 days and the nurse was pretty surprised to see me put on so much weight in such a short period of time. She told me that regular exercise is STRONGLY recommended while on the pills. She said that minor weight gains are expected but was still surprised at how much I had gained. She said that some people gain weight while others lose. So basically if you want to lose some of the weight.. you have to work out. I actually tried P90X and lost about 10 pounds in a month. It really kicked my butt! It is really difficult when you first start. Eventually I stopped because I didn't really enjoy it a whole lot. It really does work like magic though. One bad thing about P90X is that it can be hard on your knee joints because of the heavy work outs (according to the doctor). But working out is the way to go! You might also try lowering your food intake to 1400 (?). I really dont know how much you weigh so I cant really say if 1400 is enough for you but if the 1600 isn't working then lowering that might also help.

Weight Loss SHORT GIRLS: how do you deal???? Mar 29 2012

I am also short.. 5.1 and 27 years old. I used to get the exact same comments as you when I was a teenager. When I was done with high school, my dad's friend asked me when I was going to join high school and even now some people think I am a high school graduate. There was a time when I used to always wear heel shoes because I was so conscious of my height. But like some others have said.. once you are a little older you will enjoy the fact that people think you are younger than you are. I still feel a little sad when I don't get carded (lol!).

If you are really self conscious about looking so young then maybe a change in wardrobe might help. You might also be feeling this way because you DO go to school with older people! But you will slowly grow out of it.. and believe me losing more weight is not the answer. We had this girl in grad school with us and she was so tiny that she looked like she was not even in high school! A tiny body with no curves looks more like a child's than a healthy curvaceous body. I guess I haven't answered most of your questions but the fact is.. one day you will think that looking young is a blessing. :)

Fitness Started the Shred! Jan 12 2012

I started the shred today and it was a lot more challenging than what I had anticipated. However, I am a little confused about all this. I read in an article somewhere that if you are aiming for weight loss, you have to work out more than 20 minutes. The 20 minute workout is just for maintenance. So do you think that her unique 3-2-1 overcomes that? I know my body was telling me that it works but I am still a little skeptical because a lot of things that I have tried haven't worked out in the past. The only thing that had worked was p90X and that was 1+ hours for 6 days a week! Thanks in advance for your replies! :)

Weight Loss Cabbage Soup Diet Jan 12 2012

Hi,

I have tried the diet (or attempted) a few times and let me tell you that it is just not worth it. Like venessa said, once you start eating normally, you just gain more weight. And not to mention that you get sick of the soup later and crave unhealthy things all the time. And since you are starving, you are never in a good mood. I dont think it is worth it at all. Instead of that you should just start eating more healthy stuff. What I did once was eat the stuff mentioned in the diet (fruits, veggies, soup etc) along with normal food. As in substitute your lunch/dinner for the soup and fruits/veggies. The cabbage soup has negative calories and should help you. Plus, it might actually lead you to the right direction of starting to eat healthy. :) And always count calories, you will start avoiding a lot of "bad" food.

Weight Loss coming back to CC...need advice! Jan 10 2012

I am also 5'1" and I weigh 137 lbs. Calorie count can actually calculate a BMR for you. My body type is medium built and in activity, I listed myself as sedentary (I just log my activities later.) With all that my BMR is 1553, so I am surprised that your BMR is lower than mine. However, the maintenance BMR is not what you should be taking in if your goal is to lose weight. For example, I can go as low as 1200 calories a day without endangering my health (I think thats the lowest number for females). CC should actually show you a number. So if you want to lose fast, lower your intake safely. Perhaps 1250-1300 calories a day. That way you are already getting a deficit, and adding work out to it will lead to more deficit.

For instance, I am trying to intake 1200 calories. So 1553-1200 = 353. I am already getting a 353 calorie deficit so the work out adds to it. I am also coming back to CC actually. I was pretty active during summer but I was moving around a lot so I stopped and I am trying again. Hope this helps.

Weight Loss weight loss after college Jul 07 2008

I am in the same situation as you are. I just got done with college less than two months back and in the last 4 years I developed the worst eating habits ever. Sometimes I would completely skip meals and sometimes I would eat, eat and eat!! I would eat any time in the day and the food I was eating was not good either. I just joined cc but I started getting into healthy habits a little more than a month ago. I am used to it now and my lifestyle has already changed!!

I started by avoiding fattening food like chocolates, ice cream, cakes etc. I went on a week of diet where I only had healthy food i.e: No sugar, no fried food etc. That was the hardest week ever. I was just trying to get my system clean for a new healthy start. My second step was to start exercising. I do cardio (stairs) anywhere from 3-6 days a week. I dont exercise for hours.. but let my body decide how much exercise it wants. (It mainly depends on what I have planned for the week. If I am going out to the mall.. and I know I am going to walk for a few hours, I skip the normal exercise!). I started eating three heatly meals.. and I NEVER skip breakfast anymore. I also dont skip dinner (which I normally did when I was in college!). I also have some healthy snacks, which actually increased my food intake. But the unhealthy food is being replaced by healthy... hence the increase in metabolism and also less calories! And believe me... fattening and oily food does not appeal me anymore.

I have also started drinking about 2 litres (68 ounces) of water  day... which is a HUGE change as I never really drank water before. I never liked soda, so the only fluis I really drink is tea (both green and black), coffee, water and sometimes juice. Everyone has noticed my weight loss.. (within a month!), and it makes me feel awsome. I have not weighed myself though.. as I want to really have lost significant weight when i do weigh myself. I have just started and I am crossing my fingers and waiting for results!! :D

Weight Loss Do you eat out of boredom? Jul 06 2008

I am sure that I eat when I am bored, because I eat the most when I am home alone and have nothing planned for the day. I will sit in front of the T.V and go the refrigerator every 30 minutes and get something to eat. I think that when our mind is not occupied.. we need something to think about.. so we tend to think about all the yummy treats that are hidden in the kitchen! Thats one reason I try to keep myself busy, so that I dont think about what I should eat next!! I think that it happens to most of us, because some of my friends have confessed to over-eating when they are home alone and bored. So you are not alone in this.

Some people are also emotional eaters though.. so if you find yourself eating when you are sad, anxious or unhappy.. then it shows that you eat when you are getting emotional. Did you know that food can also act as anti-depressant for some people by releasing hormones that actually make you feel good? Who would have guessed that our body is trying to lure us into eating more? If you do find yourself eating when you are in a bad mood or depressed, I would recommend you to do something that makes you feel better, or talk to someone instead of getting something to eat. Afterall, all these things do the same thing.. make you feel less sad and more at ease!

Weight Loss How do I increase my metabolism? Jun 25 2008

Thanks for the reply. I did do research on how many calories I needed to have per day for my height, weight and age.. and according to different sources I should have 1300 to 1500 calories. The thing is I dont know what kind of food I should eat because whenever I eat something more than my normal amount... I seem to gain weight. Do you think I should ease into having more healthy calories per day? I am sort of frustrated right now and my mom seemed to think that having less calories should help me lose weight!

Weight Loss The "Skinny B**** " Jun 23 2008

Its almost opposite in my case but not quite. I just graduated from my Uni. a month back and the hectic schedule did not allow me to exercise like I use to. I ended up gaining more than 20 pounds which is a lot when you consider my height which is 5'1". When my mom came to visit me, she had lost more than 30 pounds and now we wear the same size clothes. I am 23 and she is 46! My mom was pretty shocked when she saw me and she started ordering me to not have fattening food... she did not even let me put any sugar in my coffee!! She is also taller than me, hence though we wear the same size, she looks skinnier than I do. It got frustrating when she tried to impose herself on me and not let me eat anything at all when all I wanted was some coffee with sugar.

I do want to loose weight though and I am starting on a diet and am also joining a gym (that I had stopped going to months ago)!! And seriously... I think you look great at your current weight and if you want to lose 15 more pounds, dont let anyone tell you different. I think it is a little hard on people who are quite not your size to look at you nd be envious and wish they were your size but just dont have the will power to do it. If your mom feels insecure about your current weight, then dont talk to her about it... afterall, as long as you feel good, its all that counts!

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
