Hey, Maryann, that's a GREAT analogy.  "Budget" is a great word to describe exactly what I do.  I know how many calories I'm allowing myself each day, and I do "budget" them so I leave enough for a decent dinner and an evening snack.  I have also found eating my "main" meals later works better for me, too.  Late breakfast, late lunch, later dinner means I won't want to snack so much in the evening, which has always been my personal downfall.

I LOVE CC!!  But, I do agree with what Cheeky said about serving measurements.  I sometimes get frustrated when I see "One serving" of something.  I want to see ounces or tablespoons, or cups, or ?  I would like to see EXACT measurements, not just "One serving."

Three or four years ago, I tried Hoodia.  It did absolutely NOTHING for me.  Last month, after seeing an ad for Rachel Ray's diet plan, I decided to try Acai.  It has done nothing for me, no affect on my appetite at all.  The one thing that HAS worked for me is CC.  Logging in everything that goes in my mouth assisted me in losing 85 pounds back in 2004.  I stopped logging and gained back half of that.  I started logging again on May 23rd and have lost 27 pounds.  Counting calories is the only thing that has ever worked for me.

Ctigger, I have to tell you, I defnitely do NOT eat totally "healthy."  I'm more concerned with keeping my calories at about 1200/day.  Sweets aren't my achilles heel, but if I DO want something sweet, I'll have one or two no-sugar-added pudding cups (60 cals ea), or a couple of Sugar-free Fudgsicles (80 cals for 2).  If I want something a little crunchy and salty, I've discovered Special K crackers (120 cals for 24 crackers). I still have pizza every couple of weeks, and I know on those days I'll exceed my desired calorie total.  Then, the next day I might try stay at 1000 cals.  I can have a tablespoon of peanut butter on a slice of toasted Sara Lee 45-cal bread (about 140 cals total).  Once a week, or so, I have an Omaha Steaks stuffed baked potato with 1 tablespoon of butter (about 480 total cals).  The point is, I'm still eating the foods I really like, just watching my total daily calories.  And, I check my food log every few days to see how I'm doing regarding protein, carbs, sodium, sugar, fat, and fiber.  I'm generally right in the middle of what's recommended.  I drink V8 juice because I don't like cooked vegetables, and I still eat lean pork, chicken breast tenders, shrimp, and cod.  See?  I'm still eating the things I like.  Some may not consider it healthy eating, but it works for me.

Thank you, mischiefdm, for doing this for us.  I particularly love that it's a CHALLENGE and NOT a competition.

I've discovered many chain-type food establishments have websites that include the nutritional information for their food.  I wanted a grilled cheese sandwich, so went into the Jack-in-the-Box website and found I could get the Kid's Meal that included the sandwich, a very small order of fries and a drink.  Total calories:  About 550.  It left me with about 700 calories for the day, and I didn't have the cheese and bread in the house to tempt me later.  Though, since then I've discovered a decent Sara Lee 45-calorie-per-slice bread.  But I digress.

I'm going to see friends where I used to work for lunch tomorrow.  The boss is ordering subs from subway.  Again, I went online and found their nutrition info.  I'm having a 6" BLT on 9-grain roll.  Total cals:  About 360.  Just another example of going online and finding nutrition info.

Hope this is somewhat helpful.

I discovered CC in 2004.  I logged everything I ate and lost 85 pounds.  I stopped logging and over a period of three years gained back half of that.  Decided to put my nose to the grindstone and get with it AGAIN on May 23rd of this year, so came back to CC and everything that goes in my mouth gets weighed, measured, or counted and entered in my log and have lost 27 pounds.  I love doing the food log and weight log entries.  To me, it's fun.  I may have to do it for the rest of my life, and so be it.  It's a crutch, I know, but it works for me.

The only fish I like are cod and halibut.  Very low in calories.  All the others, including tilapia and catfish, are too fishy-tasting to me.

Thanks, again, Allison.  A package of frozen peaches, cinnamon and fat-free Cool Whip is going on my grocery list.  I haven't tallied the calories, but I'm sure it's not much at all.  Can't wait to try it!!  Thanks for getting back to me!!

This DOES sound good and EASY, Allison.  Thanks for sharing.  Just one question, though.  You microwave for 30 seconds AFTER you put the whipped topping on?  Just wanted to make sure that was right.  Thanks much.

I pretty much eat WHAT I want; I just watch the QUANTITY to make sure I stay around 1200 calories a day.  I still enjoy chicken, pork tenderloin, shrimp, stuffed baked potatoes, pizza, chile, soups, some of the frozen low cal entrees, melons, bananas, grapes, an occasional salad of iceberg lettuce (the only kind I like), tomatoes, and cucumbers, a slice of 45 calorie toast with a tablespoon of crunchy peanut butter, a bacon and tomato sandwich on 45 calorie toast, etc., etc.  I also drink V8 juice since the only cooked vegetables I can tolerate are corn and potatoes.  All other cooked vegetables make me physically gag, very embarrassing.  I suppose some might consider this not terribly "healthy," but I'm staying within the guidelines for fat, protein, carbs, sugar, and fiber.  I used to drink a lot of Coke and Pepsi, but have traded that for Crystal Light, especially the peach tea flavor.  I've lost 27 pounds since May 23rd, so I'm happy.

Happily, I'm a proud conservative Christian who's opposed to baby murdering, gay marriage, and illegal immigration, while my beau is a liberal Jew.  In fact, when I met him in December 2007, he was a researcher/speech writer for one of the major democratic presidental candidates. I refuse to get into political arguments, so I just politely listen to him rant and rave.  So far, after a year and a half, we still get along great!

A late evening snack for me would be frozen grapes (they take longer to eat and are really refreshing), the new Special K crackers (only 120 cals for 24 crackers), a sugar-free pudding cup or two, or a toasted slice of Sara Lee bread (45 cals) with a tablespoon of organic crunchy peanut butter (95 cals).  Those are my main snacks, day OR night.

I try to eat 4-5 small meals a day, totalling about 1200 calories.  For lunch today I had a bacon and tomato sandwich on Sara Lee 45-calorie bread (dry, no butter or mayonnaise), along with some watermelon.  Total calories:  255.  I have a rule:  If I can't weigh it or measure it, it doesn't go in my mouth.

Actually, halo, there's really no link.  Just look near the top of this screen to the FOODS tab.  Click on it.  Then click on FOOD BROWSER.  Then type in chicken teriyaki salad and click on GO.  Then uncheck the little box with the green check mark in it, and click on SEARCH.  That should do it.  Let me know.  Once you've done it, it's really easy.  And, the CC data base is LOADED with all kinds of foods.  Good luck.
