I have used them, but I don't think they really "burn fat" or "increase metabolism" to such a point that weight is going to come right off. I used it for the caffeine, so I can regulate exactly how much I was putting into my body, and getting it on a schedule. I did lose 14lbs over the last 10 weeks, but I have also been working out a ton and eating right :) |

I have had a lot of pain in running, but I am required to take a running test twice a year, 2 miles in a certain amount of time.... so I've always had to find a way to deal with it. I cannot tell you where the pain is coming from, but I do recommend not trying to sprint. Run at a level that is comfortable for you, if that is a 10 minute/mile, that is actually great. Go for running at that speed for a longer amount of time, versus running even faster for short amount of time. Sprints do have their place in training, but not if it is causing pain. Also, do not feel as though you have to do 3 miles every time you train. See how fast you can run just 1 mile in, set a reasonable goal like maybe a 10 minute mile, and try to hit it.
Shoes can also be the culprit, so if it has been a while since new shoes, then invest. Also, if they are new, you have to break them in so just do slower runs until they are. Hope this helps :) |

You have gained muscle and lost weight... so it balances. Because you are already pretty small, that is natural. Keep going and the weight will go down, but the number on the scale isn't that important, if you are 120 lbs of muscle versus fat (and not all muscle, we women need a little fat!) |

Ditto... again. That would mean at least 1600 calories. You can find that under TOOLS CALCULATORS BURN METER Fill in the information and it will tell you what you need to eat. |

As stated in the previous thread, you are not losing weight because your body is in starvation mode. I won't retype everything, just see it here: http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/weight-l oss/help-811
It is not right to say you have been eating 1568 calories, because as you have stated previously you were only "eating between 946 and 1050 cal per day". If you want meaningful advice, you should be honest.
Point of post in other thread: it is going to take time to get out of starvation mode. It will not happen over night, and yes you will gain weight. You body is not forgiving! |

And...... good luck!! Calorie Count is a great place to get motivated and encouraged. You were scolded a little bit because starvation diets are not tolerated here, and can even get the thread deleted by a moderator if promoted. You now have the tools to be successful and I wish you all the best of luck. And yes, I really do want to hear how you are doing in the months (and months and months) to come! |

Do not expect a change quick. It is going to take time for your body to relax and realize that it does not have to store fat (because it isn't being starved!) You need to set some long term goals here. So considering your stats... if you are completely sedentary, you burn 1840 calories per day... and if you are lightly active its 2100. I highly suggest you eat AT LEAST 1600 calories per day, but should aim for the 1840. 1400 is probably still not enough, and though I am no expert, you might get yourself out of starvation mode if you just eat approximately what you burn (So 1840-2100 plus whatever you burn through any additional workouts). Don't forget, you will gain weight during this time. Your body will not be forgiving that you were starving it.
Side note, I am giving this advice because I went through it. At the time I didn't realize I was in starvation mode, but I was working out 2-3 hours a day with 1 rest day a week and only eating 800-900 calories. I paid for it big time, and I believe I still do as I think I have a slower metabolism than most now. NO ONE SHOULD EAT LESS THAN 1000 CALORIES. NO ONE. (At least no adult)
Keep us updated on how you are doing. Remember, this is going to be a long road, so best bet... kinda forget counting calories right now (just make sure you are eating enough), but workout to get your body strong. Then in 3-6 months you can cut your calories back just a little, making your deficit around 300. At that rate you will lose a pound every 11 or so days. You need to do that for 3 months. You should have lost at least 5 pounds then. After that, you can kick it up to 500 calorie deficit, which is a pound every 7 days. You shouldn't go too far beyond that. If you wish to have a higher deficit you need to do it by being more active, not eating less. |

Your body went into starvation mode because you were not eating enough. Now it is storing the food you are eating because it fears that it won't get enough food. That is why it is important to eat enough.
The good news is that if you continue to eat normally, and that is at the bare minimum of 1200 calories, 1500 calories if you are a teen, it will return to normal. Continue to starve yourself though and it will not get any better. Your body naturally burns at least 1500 calories a day if you just sit around all day, so you will lose if you eat that and workout. |

How much you are eating does not exactly correlate to how much you can lose. It is a combination of how much you are DOING with how much you need to eat. Best thing to do is start off small. CC says if you are moderately active throughout the day you can eat 1900 calories, 1700 if you are sedentary. (You can find your exact numbers under +tools +calculator +burn meter) I know many people shoot for a 500 calorie deficit, which you can achieve by being more active (walking, jogging, swimming, biking, weight lifting, ect.) A 500 calorie deficit is about a pound a week (which is the healthy way to loose weight), and that is an average, one week you may only lose .5 a pound, while the next week you might lose 1.5 pounds. If you eat too little, you will not lose for the long run. So in other words... if you are moderately active and are allowed to eat around 1900 calories, you can 1) eat 1400 calories and do nothing extra 2) eat 1900 calories and do activities to burn the extra 500 a day, or 3) a combination of the two (my favorite).
Don't forget, what you lose week to week is not important. Stick with it and it will come off. |

I have read (though I am no expert) that you should eat a high protein snack 30 minutes after your workout. So.... I just grab one of my protein bars and call it a day. The only thing I look at is calorie to protein ratio, and then also how much sugar. |

Until she wants to make a change herself, it is not going to happen. That doesn't mean you cannot talk to her about it. Many people (not just women) put on weight as a coping mechanism for something else. Try and think what that might be, because if there is something (which there may not be) that would be what you should help her work through. Also, be the example yourself, actions speak louder than words. I know many perfectly healthy people who mega chow down on terrible food because they have amazingly fast metabolisms. If you make a choice to pass on the fried chicken and take a salad instead, she will notice it. Swap the ice cream for a piece of fruit, swap the movie for a walk. Even if you are not overweight, I am sure your body isn't perfect (lets face it, all of us have room for improvement). Be the example for her, it will help. |

| Weight Loss | Feeling cold when dieting | Apr 10 2013 20:41 (UTC) |

I have been on my weight loss journey for 8 weeks (this time lol). I am usually a "freeze baby" but for the last year I have been really hot, so hot, that I kept the heat at 66 degrees (Fahrenheit) this winter! I have lost 11 lbs, so not crazy fast. Almost immediately after I started working out and eating right (not dieting) I noticed that I became freezing cold again. So, yes, I think there is some correlation and I am not sure that it is due to a starvation or anorexic thing.
For me I just think I am a cold person, so now that I am no longer over eating, my body has returned to normal.
Now if you are constantly tired, light headed or have muscle weakness WITH being cold, then I think you may need to eat more. |
