Weight Loss cellulite! Aug 28 2008

anniebaker - any proof that a detox diet affects cellulite?

Cellulite is fat. When you lose fat, you will likely lose some of your cellulite, maybe all if youre lucky.

A detox diet might make you lose fat faster but it wont increase your odds of losing cellulite-fat. Whether you lose the fat in two weeks or two years, theres no way to control what fat/where on your body you lose.

If youre having trouble eating well when on the go, the key is PREPARATION.

It's a bit of a pain, but it makes a world of difference! Always keep a small portion of almonds or trail mix in your bag with you, dried fruit/fruit bars are really easy to throw in your purse as a snack, or before you leave the house, chop up some veggies or baby carrots and take them with you. Try to have some protein on hand - nuts, protein bars, etc.

Its important to get enough protein and to not go too long without eating, because this will cause strong cravings and youll be more likely to cave to temptation when your man's son drags you guys to McDonalds after the game!
Weight Loss 3.5 lbs lost in 10 days so far(PLEASE REPLY!!!!) Aug 28 2008

Initial weight loss at the beginning of a diet is often water weight. To lose 3.5 lbs of pure fat, youd have to have burned 12,250 calories more than you consumed (one pound of fat = 3500 cals), so that would be a daily deficit of 1250 cals. Thats a pretty high deficit though, unless you are obese it would be very difficult to maintain such a high deficit. Aim for a 500-1000 calorie deficit to lose 1-2 lbs a week.

Like previous posters have mentioned, try not to focus too much on the scale: weight you lose could be water or waste, weight you gain could just be muscle. Go by measurements, and how you look and feel.

Are you eating less than 1800 calories a day? (the minimum needed for your age)

If so, that might be why. I always had trouble sleeping when I was under-eating. Then I started feeding myself properly, and my body rewarded me with sleep.

For me, after not-eating and cutting came binging, purging, alcohol and drug abuse, promiscuity, recklessness, various illegal activities... I wont go on.

No healthy human being decides to starve themselves. There is an underlying issue, or issues, that are leading you to these self-destructive behaviours.

Eating disorders and self-injury are usually both symptoms of an underlying mental health condition, commonly depression, anxiety disorder, OCD, bi-polar. I would recommend seeing a school guidance counselor, and see your doctor and ask them for a referral to a psychiatrist. Or if youre willing to talk to your parents, they might pay for a psychologist. I would recommend talking to your parents, but if you're not ready yet it could be really helpful to speak to a counselor or doctor first.

700 calories is never healthy for an 18 year old. Never. Not ever ever ever ever EVER!

If you continue to drastically undereat, you will lose muscle, then some fat if you keep it up long enough, then your organs (including your brain and heart) will SHRINK and shrivel. Skinny models look the way they look from long-term starvation and genetics.

Everyone who starves themself either eventually starts eating normally again, or dies. Assuming you wisen up and choose the former option, your metabolism will have greatly suffered and you will have to work much much harder to be healthily slim for the rest of your life. So unless youre happy dying young or being obese when you're older, I'd strongly recommend you starting eating at least 1500 cal/day NOW.

It is not an eating disorder, it is disordered eating, which if paired with other factors can be sufficient for a diagnosis of an eating disorder. Just to clarify that.

But specific diagnostic jargon aside, it is a terrible thing to do to your body (and the planet- all that wasted food, yikes!).

It's definately not a behaviour that could ever be a part of a healthy eating lifestyle. Like the above poser mentioned, 600-700 calories a day will ruin your body, mind, and metabolism, and make it easier for you to gain weight in the future.

Ive heard of lots of people having similar experiences to yours who weren't on any medication.

Do you normally "eat" marijuana? Because eating it does sometimes give a different and more intense high, often too intense for many people.

Even if it was true, so what? Dont your brains need a minimum of 150 grams of carbs a day to fully function? Its not like we can give carbs up. Sitting on the couch eating  chicken fried steak all day and not moving so as to not require carbohydrates wont work... just ask Elvis.

A few things that work for me:

1) dont watch TV, or watch less. I find it inspires snacking and other zombie-like behaviours.

2) wear tight pants. When I change into loose comfy post-work clothes, I feel more "comfortable" with my fat... so I find having something digging into your gut slightly more will remind you that you want to lose weight/keep you conscious of your body. sounds stupid but it works for me!

3) ok, the tea thing: DONT SWEETEN IT! not even zero-cal sweetener like splenda. I find the sweet taste makes me crave more sweet stuff/food in general. Drink mint or green tea with no sugar, it really kills your appetite!

4) brush your teeth, or buy some cheap teeth-whitening trays. You cant eat with a mouth full of bleach! Just dont overdo it or your enamel will suffer.

Seeing as this site is for people who are trying to learn how to eat right and get healthy, I dont see the constructiveness in posting your minimal food intake. If it was due to a genuine lack of appetite brought on by physical illness, then its more understandable, but still not adviseable. Why bother posting it? Why not put a disclaimer that this is not the way you normally eat or try to eat, and that you were ill this day?

There are a lot of teenagers on this site who could look at your post and think that this is an acceptable way to eat since you didnt express in your posting the unhealthiness of eating this way. So for future reference, it would be wise to put a disclaimer in your post.

malibu - dont feed the anorexics. dont feed them attention, that is. if you tell them theyre starving yourself, theyll just think youre "jealous"... yeah, right. I wish I was passing out and losing my hair and shrinking my organs! Teach me howwwww!!!!!

Anyways, today I ate:

Breakfast - 1.5 pieces whole wheat bread with peanut butter, coffee with light vanilla soymilk

Lunch - 3 tofu dogs (no buns), 1.5 cups cereal

Snacks: 2 apples, 1 pear, 1 nectarine, 1.5 cups blueberries (making the most of summer fruit while its in season!)

Dinner will be grains since I'm low on them today. Maybe pasta with veggies.
Weight Loss 5'6'', Large Frame? Aug 20 2008

I'm 5"6 and definately large-framed since my fingers cant touch around my wrist, and I'm 147 lbs so its not cause of wrist-fat!

Ive accepted that 100 lbs is an impossible goal for my frame-size. I'm still hoping for 125-135 though.

What do you all think is the lowest a 5"6, large-framed woman should weigh?

valerieee -  i know, peanut butter is so addictive... salty, creamy, fatty, everything you could want! lol

as far as my diet, im trying to follow my dieticians recommendations: 5-6 servings grains (mostly whole grains), 7+ fruits and veg (i love dried fruit bars, V8, carrots, bell peppers, and tomatoes), 2 soymilks (i dont eat dairy, light soymilk is only 60-70 cals a cup! less than nonfat milk! i like light vanilla flavour), and 3 proteins (tofu, beans, or nuts/nut butter.) I'm a recovering bulimic, and when i firsted started seeing my dietician I followed the food guide, didnt count cals, went to the gym 3-6 times a week, and lost weight steadily and easily. So Im trying to get back to that!

I get trapped in the "Tomorrow I'm going to diet so strictly and perfectly, as of tomorrow I'll never eat chocolate/candy/bread/pasta/etc again, so I better eat ALL those things tonight and enjoy them one last time!". The problem is, I never stick to it the next day! So I'm trying to take it one day at a time, just eat healthy today and not make rigid plans for the future.

I guess I fit this group profile:I'm almost 19, 5"6 and 145 lbs, trying to get to 125-130.

It seems like I'm never "off" a diet, just cheating on whatever one I'm on lol so I can relate to you there. I have a chocolate addiction, also peanut butter, I cant go a day without peanut butter, mmm.

I want to reach my goal before Christmas. I'm aiming for a 1-1.5 lbs a week. And I need to work out more!I've been good the last four days, so thats something. Whats working for me so far is drinking TONS of tea, green tea and Oolong tea. Plus still some coffee with soymilk and no-cal sweetener.

I'm sure there are lots more people in this age/goal range on CC. Every age group has its own challenges.... the thing that bothers me is I know my metabolism is only going downhill from here on, so I feel like this is the time in my life where I should be my thinnest, my physical peak, and I'm not there.

you cant really eat too many vegetables. the only ones to watch out for are starchy ones like potatoes/sweet potatoes/corn (which you should count as grains, not vegetables) and some squashes/parsnips can be higher calorie.

fruits are sugar and higher calorie so eating 20 apples a day is definately not a good idea... probably 5-7 servings of fruit a day is the maximum... 2-5 is a better bet

I dont drink very often now, I just smoke pot instead (healthier overall in my opinion, but to each their own).

Although pot has no calories like alcohol does, it still leads to the same problem - munchies! Why cant bars sell fruit and veggies sticks? sigh.

I think the food is the culprit for weight gain more than the alcohol calories. Although if youre drinking really sugary drinks, thats bad... but theyre so good! Nothing like a sweet margarita on a hot day. If I do drink, its vodka with low-cal juice, sugar-free energy drinks or diet coke. Ick.

Just try to move around a lot when you go out to burn off the cals. Hit the dance floor!
