Weight Loss OVER 300 POUNDS Looking for support Jun 14 2012

Hi Sharon!!  :)

I am looking for more supporters as well, and in return, I want to support more people!!

My name is Cass.  I am 19 years old and weigh... 262.  This is my highest weight, and I feel incredibly unfazed by it.  It's like I don't even care I weigh this much.  But the thing is I really do!  It's just that I haven't made the changes I need to, and have been gaining weight since I came to this site to lose weight!  I am not blaming the site.  I am just saying that I know better.  I am obviously here, and have been at this for a long time.  I have lost weight before.  I used to know a lot about this kind of stuff too.  But here I am, at my highest weight ever, even after all that.

I need to lose over 100 lbs, and would love to be there for anyone who needs me.  I like to write journals, so please read them. That is where I vent the most, and write insightful thoughts.

I have about 100 lbs to lose myself.  Once I lose that amount, I will decide how I feel at 160 and go on from there.   But yeah, I would love to have more weight loss buddies who have similar goals as I!  So I'll support you.  If you write in your blog/journal thingy here, I can also enjoy commenting on those.

  1. Change your self talk to be more encouraging, positive, and persuasive.  (i.e.  If you want that cupcake, say something like, "I don't need this now, and I don't even want it!"  Just be very convincing and believe in your new positive self talk!
  2. Eat the same thing for one meal everyday.  It takes a lot of the stress out of how your day will turn out calorie wise.  I choose breakfast.  I have gluten free rice cereal with a little agave nectar.  Sometimes with fruit.
  3. Know your calories!  When you are thinking about eating something junky, then look at the calories first and add it in your mind to what you already have.  Will it throw you over?
  4. Imagine how you will feel after you eat the food.  You don't need the negativity.  Instead feel better by making a better decision.
  5. Distract yourself!  Want that candy bar?  Go for a walk instead.  Eat a piece of fruit.  Drink a big glass of water or water with lemon.
  6. Affirmations and Mantras!  Come up with quotes that make you feel good, and base your decisions off from.
  7. And most importantly, stay positive!  We are all just human and are bound to make a few mistakes.  The important thing is to learn and grow.  Not to be stuck in the moment.  Instead use the current moment so you can succeed in the next.  And never give up!

I love this thread!  :)  I am going to write an improved version of my reasons to lose weight.

1)  I feel tired and sluggish all the time and I am only 19!  This lethargy is making me not want to do much during the day and that isn't good!

2)  My fat feels like it is constricting me and literally "weighing" me down.  I have to lay down and position my belly just right so I can breathe properly anymore.  And that is just sad, for anyone.

3)  I have begun to wear only t-shirts because they are the only thing that look ok on me.  Anything " fancy" or anything I like just doesn't fit me right.

4)  My butt sticks out too far for me to fit into jeans right.  So there is always a gap back there so I have to wear long shirts with jeans.  But my fat says, screw jeans.  It took over so that I can't fit into my old jeans! So I wear black stretch/yoga pants now.  I have like 5 pairs.  I'd like to wear nice pants, darn it!  lol

5)  I want to be able to do things with friends that I couldn't before because I lost my breathe so easily.  Like going for long walks or playing something sporty.

6)  I want to learn to ride a bike!  I have a bad feeling about getting a bike at this weight, but I am sure if I really wanted to I could go for it. :)  So maybe that will be a new milestone after I lose so many pounds.  Then I can buy a bike according to that weight.

7)  I want to just feel comfortable in my own skin.  I don't want to look into a mirror and only see the result of a series of bad decisions.

8)  I want to deal with my problems and not blame my fat for them.

9)  I no longer want to rely on food for comfort.  I want new healthy ways to cope and deal with life's obstacles.

10)  I want to show myself what results from hard work, commitment, and believing in yourself.  I want to trust myself and have control in the parts of my life that I can.

11)  I want to walk the walk, and not just talk the talk.  (yeah I went there.  XD)  What I mean is I say I will lose weight, and plan it out.  Then I don't do it, or stay committed!  I know it feels amazing when you put in a lot of work into something, and the outcome is more meaningful than you expected.

12)  Someday I want to share my success with others and help them lose weight.

13)  I don't want to get seriously sick someday with a disease I could have prevented by living a healthy life style.

Keep posting your reasons to lose weight everyone!  This thread is really useful to look back on when someone is feeling discouraged.

Well, first don't tell yourself you can never have chocolate again.  It is actually quite healthy to have a square or two of dark chocolate.  Wean yourself off milk chocolate if you haven't already.

When cutting back on those comfort foods, they will always be there taunting you it seems.  Everyday is a battle.  But it will be worth it, and remember to have moderation in moderation! XD  As a pain as it can be.

I'm rocking in the same boat!  I lost 50 lbs in the course of a year.  It was a slow weight loss because I didn't exercise as much as I should, and still had days where I cheated.  But over this past year I have gained it all back!  I am back at my highest weight.

I know how to lose weight, and I am always looking for new information to do it.  But somehow the cookies, pizza, and all that bad junk find their way back to me.  And the exercise never goes as planned.  I have lost weight and felt amazing from it.

But now I completely lack motivation and don't know how to even begin.  Because I have "begun" many times since, and a few days later BAM!  I fall off the wagon again and feel terrible.  It's been a horrible sad cycle.  So I am interested in anyone's comment that can help motivate us!

And like you, I was at a point in life where I wasn't going to look back.  But now I am there again.  :(  Gah...

I heard that gratitude has a positive effect on you for up to six months after stating and realizing what you have to be grateful for.  I've wanted to start a gratitude journal for a while but haven't yet.  And you are right.  I think that to truly be successful and happy with yourself you must look at yourself in a positive way, and what you do have.

It seems that a lot of your reasons are based on what other people think of you, and I think that is the worst thing for a lot of us that are trying to lose weight. We need to be doing this for OURSELVES, and we need to learn to love ourselves enough to do it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticising, in fact I care far too much myself what opinion other people have of me, but do it for your own good health and quality of life (and cute clothes!) and not because you feel judged.

Nigella9:  It's ok.  You are right.  I care far to much what other people think.  It's overwhelming.  As I lose weight I will work on the reasons I am doing it that are for me.  Thanks for helping me see that, because at first I didn't even notice.  haha

I also suggest if you are going to eat carbs, the best time of the day is in the morning.  This way you know they are getting burnt off.  Make sure they are complex, like a sweet potato, oat meal, or whole wheat. :)

Everyone has really good reasons to want to lose the weight.  :)  Keep on posting because this will be a long forum to go to for when anyone feels discouraged.  None of us are alone and all understand each other.  Weight loss is not an easy thing.  And if we come to each other for help when needed for that extra push, that is a great thing in itself.  Losing weight with support will make it a much more pleasant journey.  Reading your posts, I feel like I can totally relate.  Life is a beautiful thing.  We should be able to enjoy it to good health and love. :)  And that is what we will do.

1)  So I can breathe!  I feel like my fat is suffocating me and squishing my internal organs!  haha Sounds a little funny, but true!  When I was 40 lbs lighter I didn't feel like this.

2)  So I can go out in public without feeling like everyone is looking at my tubbyness.

3)  So I can buy whatever clothes I want.

4)  So I don't feel overly judged by others.

5)  So I won't feel belittled by others glares and stares.

6)  So I don't feel ashamed.

7)  So I can go outside for a walk without feeling uncomfortable about who my see me.

8)  So I don't have to worry about what my old classmates think about the weight I have gained.

9)  So I can feel confidence.

10)  So I can feel beautiful on the outside.

11)  So I can do active activities without feeling like I am dying during or afterwards.

12.  So I know what I am capable of.

Note:  You don't have to number yours according to everyone else's.  Just do your own thing. :)

I do the same thing!  I get really into it for a few days, then the next few days I do bad, then the next few days I do great, and you get the point...

It is very annoying, actually. lol

I think we have to pay attention to how we feel after we eat too much or eat bad foods.  Because food is often used to push down feelings.  So we have to pay attention to what our body really wants when we want to eat badly.

Definitely pay attention to how good exercise makes you feel.  Drink 64 ounces or more of water daily.

Eat snacks in between meals that are made of whole foods like vegetables and fruits.  But not too much!

I am confused myself how to stay on track.  I think we just gotta do it and stay disciplined.  Have days where you can have a treat.  But don't deprive yourself.  Understand you can have the bad foods once and a while, and know you will be able to have them again in moderation.

I don't know how much this helped but we can keep talking about it if you want. :)

You can always wake up a little earlier to exercise for at least 30 minutes.  :)  I used to have to wake up earlier to exercise in the morning before school.  And then I got whatever exercise I got from gym and my personal fitness class.  I also walked during lunch period with my friends after we finished eating.  I am talking high school though.  I am sure if you plan ahead you can manage to figure something out.  Sit down when you have a lot of time to think and plan and ask yourself How you can do whatever it takes to lose weight and eat healthy.  You will be surprised what you may  come up with if you think for a while about it, and give yourself self empowering thoughts.

You shouldn't weigh yourself everyday with the expectation of actual fat loss.  Your weigh fluctuates everyday 2-5 lbs naturally.  And it is normal.  It is just liquid, and food, that you are probably seeing being weighed and not actual fat.  Expect real results weekly but not everyday.  I know it's hard not to weigh yourself everyday.  I do it too.  But I know I can't lose fat in just one day.  I know when I see my weight going up and down each day it's just fluctuations.  And if it's weekly that I gained or have a loss I know it's probably fat related.  And it is very frustrating.  I haven't been able to lose that much weight simply because I haven't been consistent.  If I just would do good for a whole week instead of doing good for two days then giving up the next, I would see the results I want.

@Smashley

You know what, I can totally relate to you now that I think about it.  Whenever I am away somewhere where I don't know what I am going to have to eat, that is when I make the most mistakes!  Like today is going to be one since I have no access to healthy foods.  I am at my grandma's for the weekend and don't see anything that will give me good grades. lol
