Recipes Recipes for a whole week of food Sep 21 2010

I actually do this every week. I cook two things on Sunday - one for lunches and one for dinners.

Basically, any recipe can be made for the whole week.  Just adjust the quantities and freeze what you aren't going to use in the next couple of days and reheat it like it is a frozen dinner.

I particularly like the slow cooker for this because I can "cook" one thing in the morning and then cook something else later in the day.

I also use the internet for my recipes and print a recipe off and keep it in a binder if I like it.  So I guess I have my own personalized cookbook.

One of my favorite sites that hasn't been listed is www.eatingwell.com.  They have a lot of really cool and different recipes if you are like me and are always trying something new.

Also, Eating Well offers cookbooks that you can buy.  I have a couple and I've liked what I have cooked out of them so far.

Foods Kashi Go Lean vs Kashi Go Lean Crunch?? Sep 17 2010

I prefer Kashi Go Lean BerryCrisp over either crunch or the original, but not all places sell the Crisp version.

I also second their granola - it is kind of hi-cal, but a little goes along way when mixed with some greek yogurt.

Try putting some double sided tape on your counters for awhile.  Or crinkled up aluminum.  Dobule sided tape will also stop cats from scratching on something (at least it works for me and a couple of people I know).

Cats hate the feeling of that stuff under their paws and it might help deter him from jumping on your counters and you can take it off once he has stopped.

Also, some cats feel the need to search for their water and food.  So you can either try putting several water dishes around or get one of the fancy "running" water fountains for him.  They range in cost from $25 - $100 at Petsmart.  Don't know if it would help with the knocking over the water glasses issue though.

My cat liked drinking out of glasses so much that we eventually just ended up using a glass for her water dish.  Wouldn't touch her bowl of water after that, even if it was fresher.  It stopped her from drinking out of our cups though.

I'm so sorry your mother and family are going through this.

When my stepmom had cancer, they gave her THC pills to increase her appetite and reduce her nausea.  They also gave her a topical cream for nausea as she kept throwing up the anti-nausea pills.  So, I guess I'm saying (if you haven't already, which you might have) - talk to her doctor about what options there are to help increase her appetite and decrease her nausea.

Both of those helped a little.  She liked to eat pudding, jello, sherbert/ice cream and strangely hot dogs from this one place.  I think it is a lot of trial and error though.

curry chicken salad made w/ yogurt, a little mayo, raisins, apple, celery & of course curry powder.  You could substitute eggs or tofu for the chicken.

add some sprouts or lettuce and it is delicious.

As someone who plays on XBox live, I think they might flag gay because of all the little ****head kids that would use it in a negative way which would be offensive.

I could be wrong though.

Say, lady_muse, did you grow up in a dysfunctional family?

No ... my problems started after I moved away from home, actually.  A damaging life experience led to weight gain, isolation, fear, lack of self-esteem and diminished self-worth.  Apparently I'm not over it.  I suppose that means that we can add depression to the mix ... too bad it's only the people with money or the ones below the poverty line that are worthy enough to get help.  The rest of us in the middle are just screwed.

There are plenty of counselors that offer a sliding scale for fees based on income.  Also, I don't know if you have any universities in the area, but they often have reduced costs because you are working with students, but they are all supervised by doctors.

Cheap help is out there, please take advantage of it.

my bf is 6'4" and around 200 lbs and has an extremely active job.  We work different shifts, so we don't often eat together.  So I usually keep a lot of sandwich stuff on hand for him to throw together quickly when he gets home from work or wakes up and is hungry.

When we do eat together, he will either have more of what we are eating or have something extra. Like garlic bread if we are having pasta or cornbread if we are having chili.

Since you are staying away from canned items, the hardest thing is going to be veggies & protein.  It seems like carrots, peppers, onions, parsnips, etc would keep for a couple of days outside of a fridge.  You could eat:

  1. peanut butter sandwiches with bananas
  2. Spaghetti with a jarred sauce (you would have to have water to cook the spaghetti though)
  3. potatoes so you can make home fries/hashbrowns w/ onions
  4. Self-stable gnocchi is great (and some brands come in a whole wheat version)
  5. Lentils, rice, beans (again, you have to have water for these)
  6. smoked sausage and self-stable tofu for protein
  7. beef (or other meat) jerky
  8. pretzels, crackers, popcorn, and others snacks
  9. different kinds of squash like butternut, acorn, etc
  10. watermelon (and other melon) seems like it would keep, but you would have to eat it quickly once you cut it

I can't really think of anything.  Hope this helps.

Just heard this one from my brother (he is currently on a duck joke kick):

Three ducks walk into a bar.  The bartender walks over and asks the first one "what's your name and how has your day been?"  The first duck says "My name Hewie and I had a great day, I've been in puddles all day!".

The bartender asks the second duck "So, what's your name and did you have a good day too?"  The second duck says, "My name is Lewie and also had an awesome day because I've been in puddles."

The bartender looks at the third duck and says "Let me guess your name is Dewie . . .".  The third duck cuts him off and says "My name is Puddles and don't ask how my day has been."

I've never heard anyone use the term to mean female superiority, so that is weird to me.

I've certainly known people who believed that's what it meant.

I see a lot of posts flaming people for saying that it is the cowardly way out assuming that they haven't been in that position.

I'm trying to give a view point of someone who has been through it, not challenge anyone's opinion, so please don't be harsh in your responses.  Again, I'm only trying to give a different view point.

I was there, I almost did it and yes, I was going through some serious **** and have been clinically depressed since I was six.  So I think I meet all of the criteria for someone who was in that position.  And I personally think it would have been taking the cowardly way out.  And no, I wasn't thinking logically and probably still am not and maybe never will.  But it is my opinion and I'll stick by it.

It would have been much easier for me to just end the pain instead of facing it and trying dealing with.  It still would be, but I made the decision that I won't take the easy way out.  That I will try my hardest to get the help I need and to not give up.  It is still something I struggle with when I see or experience certain triggers.

I personally think that living is the hardest thing for someone to do when they are in that state of mind.  At least for me it was - finding a way to continue living in that type of pain and finding the strength to get help and face the pain head on.

Again, this is my perspective and experience.  If someone else has a different one, please feel free to post it.  This is a very personal matter for a lot of people and I would prefer to avoid some of the conflict that happens in other posts with touchy subjects.

I hate to say it, but I see suicide as an infuriating act of selfishness and cowardice. I know that I am supposed to be sensitive to another's pain, but it's one thing for which I can't muster up very much tolerance.

My mother tried to kill herself a few times. It just terrified me.

I agree with this as well. I've thought about it a couple of times and the thing that always pulled me back is thinking of my mom by my grave.

And I just couldn't do it, no pain/hopeless situation I was experiencing was even close to the pain I would have caused her.  Thank god I love her as much as I do and was blessed with such a wonderful, loving mother.

Video chatting obviously isn't the same, but it is better than nothing.

My sister lives in Seattle and I live in Buffalo, so visits are few and far between.  But we'll "grab" a cup of coffee together by video chatting.  She is planning on having a kid soon and my mom already has a webcam.

It isn't ideal, but at least you could talk to/see your new niece/nephew and they can learn the sound of your voice and start talking to you as they get older.

I think she's saying on the US side there is more road kill? So, I'd be crossing over into Canada. I think I might do it end of July. I'll be in Buffalo, at the Peace Bridge crossing.

Seriously? That's 5 min from my house.  Remember to stop at duty free to exchange your currency.  Let me know if you need any Buffalo tips - not like there is a lot to do.

The Lounge Measuring Bra Size at Home? Jul 06 2010

I just had this problem.  The whole adding 5 inches thing would have made me a 48B instead of the 42DD that I am.  A 48" band size would fall off of me!  When I used the "traditional" method from this site, I got 42DD - so I think the adding 4 or 5 inches thing can't be right.
