| Weight Loss | how many people are on "diets" they could actually stay on forever? | Feb 07 2011 06:32 (UTC) |

I ate mostly clean for a couple years straight. Then I began dating a guy who didn't eat that way and began to slowly stray for almost a year. During this time I felt low energy, puffy, bloated and like I had a rock in my stomach. Even though I knew it was the food that was causing me to feel like that, when I ate unhealthy I wanted to eat MORE unhealthy. The cravings got insane! So, I needed to reset. For a straight week, I cut out anything that wasn't fresh from the local farm. No salt, no added sugar, minimal saturated fat, etc. That killed my cravings and I'm back to eating mostly clean. I'm still with the guy and thankful that he is not only supportive of clean eating, he's becoming an active participant. I'll still eat pizza and brownies, in a very minimal way. There are so many other excellent tasting foods (Garlic and spinach tofu scramble!) that I love so much more (baked apples!), that won't make me feel like the staypuffedmarshmallowman walking through a bowl of molasses. |

After my nephew was born on May 5, 2010, I said to my mom, "that's so cool, he was born on Cinco de Mayo. There will always be a party on his birthday."
My mom replied, "oh, is Cinco de Mayo always on May Fifth?" I responded, "I don't know...is the Fourth of July always on July Fourth?" It took her a second. She felt a little silly. And of course, we've never let her forget. |

Hey you guys!!!! Ah yeah, I'm still around. I've been going through this whole "falling in love" thing over the past several months and haven't been good about tracking calories. Funny, when I first started dating my redheaded boy, I lost 5lbs without batting an eye, landing at 145lbs. Then two more months passed and I gained almost 10lbs. Over the past few months, I slowly gained 5 more. Math...er...-5+5+5=10 pounds! So, eh hem. I'm at 160lbs again. Good news, I now do most of the cooking (all of it...he's actually forbidden to cook for me. He puts slabs of butter and garlic salt into everything.) We rarely eat anywhere but at home anymore. I never stopped exercising so I'm still in shape (blood pressure 108/68, resting heart rate 64). He's also a former athlete and is (or pretends to be) interesting in living a healthy life (I'm sure he hits McDonald's when I'm not around). And the most important good point...145 was a tad too thin for me. People were worried, my period got all messed up and I looked older. So my goals are a bit more concrete this time around....because I know where I'm at my best. So my goal is 150-155. I'm so happy to read-up on ya'll! Way to stick to it fellow Warrior Women! |

1. BMI = 21 2. Male or female = female 3. average hours of sleep you get per night = 5 1/2 4. number of sick days you took in the last 6 months if you are employed or a student = 1 (wasn't too sick, just went home because I felt crappy, like I might be getting sick but never really did. Er, since this isn't open ended...you probably didn't need all that info.) 5. age = 35 |

I feel a lot of relief after reading this thread. Thank you Res and congrats on your weight loss! You look like you're a normal, healthy weight to me. I stopped losing weight a year ago, and I had lost it slow. So people who see me all the time either didn't notice (because it was slow and steady) or got use to it. I am also at a healthy BMI. However, a couple good friends who have known me for years have recently expressed their concern. One is a female who told me my arms are too sinewy (I have some tight muscle definition, heh heh). The other is a guy who said he isn't use to the "scrawny" me and wasn't sure if he liked my new, thinner look. Said I had always been "thick" (about 30lbs more) and he liked me that way (just went through this with him last night). I trust these friends so their statements cause some conflict since I can never seem to accurately gauge how I look. Thankfully (besides this thread), I have other fabulous friends, family and co-workers who have told me I look healthy and not too thin (one guy recently said I was buff...cracked me up). I know it's just gonna take some people longer to get use to it, but I'm still constantly stuck between thinking I should gain 5lbs then thinking I should lose 5lbs. It's a head trip for sure. So I just stay where I'm at. |

I slice up vegetable medley's all the time. Example; diakon, cucumber w/peel, green peppers, mushrooms, and sugar snap peas and put them all in a big bowl. Occasionally I'll add apple slices or vinegar and pepper, but most of the time I just eat it all plain. On cooler days I microwave my bizarre combination with a bit of spray butter. It's not really an officially named salad, but I love vegetables, so the variety mixed into one sitting works for me. I am full for hours after eating this. |

I've been there. A pound of fat is 3500 calories. So to gain a pound of fat in one day, you would have to eat/drink 3500 calories OVER what you burned that day. 3 pounds of fat gained would be 10,500 calories in addition to the 2000 or so calories that you would naturally burn off in a day. Summary is; any weight you put on during your Bud Light Lime and snacking day is not fat and you have not set yourself back at all. Just don't do it every day. I call these "oops days" and have experienced a few of them since I started eating healthy and losing weight over a year ago. I've never gained back any of the fat I lost and continued to lose weight at a good pace. On these rare oops days (moderation) , I have gained up to 10 pounds of food and water weight (ug) that typically goes away in a couple days. It's always a little freaky, but I've had it happen enough that I know the drill. I've been maintaining more or less for over a year and give myself a 5lb "cushion" since it's normal for a body to fluctuate in weight daily. To get rid of it; drink plenty of water, sweat some of it out with excersice, and eat healthy food. Basically, get back on track. |

I used the Jergen's gradual tanners (one type for face and one for body) and was frequently complimented on my "early tan" and "glow". I liked it because it was subtle and looked natural. And as another poster pointed out, if I started looking too dark, I'd just apply it less often. No steaking or weird orange spots. Good stuff. |

Original Post by schnooder: I've read every book in this series. They're a lot of fun! The HBO series "True Blood" is based on these books. And, wow, I thought I was the only person who's read The Good Earth. I loved that book. I just finished "Water for Elephants" (it was okay) and am now reading "Sunshine", by Robin McKinnley. It's another book about supes. Although I'm good about mixing some good literature into my collection, I just love books about the supernatural.

When I was still losing, I found a pair of GAP curvy that I liked but they were just a tad snug, so I held off. Not quite worth the $59-69 price. Went back in last weekend (about 6months later) and found the same jeans priced down to $9.97 instead of the original $59-69 they had been. I'm wearing them right now and they fit perfect. So, maybe wait a couple months and see if you can get a sale price. And if you're still losing, you may find yourself in an even smaller size by then. |

How do you feel about befriending him first? While at work. It's a good way to get to know someone and see if it's more than just initial attraction. Of course, it's a little tricky to turn your mind in this direction. But if you can pull it off, it will also take loads of pressure off. I've made several great male friends this way. Initially thought they were hot, then got to know them and lost the lust (shh, don't tell them). There is that thing about dating people at work. So you may want to consider potential consequence there. |

I've always had a tendency to rush through my meals and am trying to break that habit because... The enzymes in the saliva (and, of course, chewing) help break down the foods, aiding in digestion. I take extra care to chew things like almonds to the point of mush. It is a good thing to chew food thoroughly and isn't obsessive. There is actual a real health related reason for it. Thought it would be good to back myself up (figuratively, not literally...since I properly chew my food). Here is one SOURCE among several that go into it a bit more. Edited to Add: I don't actually count my chews. I just try to make sure I've mushed everything up well before swallowing. |
