Pregnancy & Parenting potty training Jun 04 2012

I have a piece of advise that is from my friend's experience with her son.  They had to completely switch from diapers/pullups to real underware.  Her son knew what it meant to be potty trained, but it never clicked/worked.  As soon as  she was switched to underwear, it clicked.  He was older though (age 4 when they switched).

I also worked at child care center (worked with age 3 kids).  In the toddler room, they started training around 2.5 or so.  (able to move into my class once completely trained).  They would have their potty breaks/diaper changes (for the younger ones) every hour.

Good luck on training!

The Lounge you should live off of 50% of your gross income Mar 16 2012

It would be nice if we could live off out half of our income, but...I am the only one who has a job.  My husband is finishing up school.  Right now, we are living paycheck to paycheck.  Now, this will be different once he is done with school.  We will be able to save most of his paycheck to buy a larger house, actually  have a saving account  (for now and later).   At least, that's what we are planning on doing, but life can change in the next year and a half.

I now longer eat there.  We ate there only a few times a week (and were actually annoyed when it was Sunday and we were wanting Chick-Fil-A).  I cannot give money to a company that then uses it towards anti-gay organizations.  It hasn't been noticed, but it's more about my morals.  I may be a Christian, but I cannot tell someone else who they can or cannot marry.

On a slightly unrelated note...I can't bring myself to eat KFC after an old co-worker of mine said that a friend of her's got some chicken from there and it ended up being a rat.

The Lounge Calling Off Sick From Work Jan 16 2012

I get just pver 4 hours of PTO every pay period with a max of 150 hours at one time.  I use it once I get above 100 hours (took a week randomly in Oct).  I don't call in sick for even a really bad cold.  I will come to work, do my 8 hours, and go home.  The only way I call in sick is if I have a fever or throwing up.  If I think about it, I'll feel bad for those at work having to do all of my work (I do a whole lot at my job).  But, I know I do need to stay home.

There is no need to feel guilty for calling in if you are truely sick and have to stay in bed and or close to the bathroom.

Hope you feel better soon!!!

I find it interesting and cool that you are a distant relative to Blackbeard.  I wouldn't think to much about her comment. If she meant it to be rude, then oh well.  It is also possible she didn't mean to be rude at all (more of a matter of fact thing in her mind).  If my MIL said something like that, I would have not liked the coment, and then talked to my husband about it afterwards and move on.  No need to dwell on it.

We got the tree and other decorations done the day/weekend after Thanksgiving.  We finally finished buying the bulk of the gifts over the weeked.  It does help that we only buy 1-2 gifts depending on the price for people and only for parents, siblings, grandparents we will see over the holidays and all of the dogs.  None are wrapped though...we  plan on having a wrapping party sometime this week (or at least I am and my husband will be forced to join in).  We did much better this year compared to by this time last year, just starting to shop.  (and didn't spend as much.  We can actaully finish the shopping...last year we had to quit because we ran out of extra money).  And with it almost being done, I can not stress about the gifts and focus on being around family (which involves it's own stress but that's a different story).

sweet potato casserole is usually mashed up sweet potatoes with cinnamon and other spices.  Then some top it with nuts/butter/sugar/cinnamon or marshmallows/cinnamon.  I like how my Dad makes it (shredded sweet potatoes and not too much sweet topping).  I like my aunts if I ignore the topping.  It's wayyyy tooooo sweet.

Green bean casserole I've only made it once and my husband did most of it.  I know it has green beans, spices, cream of chicken or mushroom (or both) and topped with french onion thingies.  You can also switch out the green beans and put asparagus in it instead.

And the corn casserole recipie i have is the easiest thing.  2 cans of corn, sour cream or greek yogurt, 1 box jiffy mix (corn bread mix), and 1 stick butter (I forgot this one time and it still tasted good!).

I can tell when they are in season because they look better.  If I want an avacado when it's off season (cooler weather) we have go to the Fresh Market ( or the like).  Kroger or Walmart won't have any good ones.

In "Ask Mary" she said that parsley is one item to eat for water retention. Does it have to be fresh or can you use the dry spice in salads and sprinkle on food.

I pictured Jack Sparrow when I read the title

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking that.  I might have to watch Pirates 1 this week.

That is interesting though.  But for me, if my pants are a little tight in the morning, I up the amount of water and I'm better by the afternoon.

Try getting a low sodium salt.  The one that we use is 50% of the sodium of table salt, but taste the same.  Then use less of that over time.

One egg, 2% cheese slice, and either a toasted Light english muffin or 100 cal. thin bagel.  That's my usual. Eventually I'll need to change it up or i'll get tired of it.

You can buy Low Sodium salt.  It's about half the sodium as normal table salt.  My husband has tried the NoSalt stuff, but he could tell the difference.  With the low sodium salt, it taste the same.

You have got to try the Tirmasu Cheesecake.  It was amazing. Also, if you really like Recee's, get a Recee's Cheesecake, just beware that it's about 2 to 3 times the size of a normal cheesecake.  If yall get any appitizers, you could try some crab stuffed wonton.  I'm not sure if that's right, but they were tasty.

I got a Cheese pasta with chicken dish.  It was good.  My husband got a cheeseburger and sweet potato fries, which he also enjoyed.

Have fun there!  I went to the one in Chicago on a trip and it was tasty.  We had to go back again the next day to get the Tirmasu Cheesecake becaus they were out the first time around.

The Lounge Couponers Aug 01 2011

There are a few things I stock pile on when I see coupons.

Floss - I find $1.00 off for 1 Reach product, or $2.50 off 3 Reach products.  Their floss is around $1.00 so I'm getting either free or $.50 cent floss.

Body Wash - For a couple of months, there was a buy 2 get 1 free, or buy 1 get 1 free coupon, so now i have enough bodywash for 6 months

Renu air fresheners - If I see any buy 3 get 3 free, we'll do that.  They come around once every 3-6 months

Contact stuff - I recently got 6 months worth of contact cleaner because the kind I get never has coupons, and it isn't the cheapest brand out there (I need one without chemicals).

That's all that we buy a lot of when we have coupons.  We've saved $26 dollars on our first trip to the store after we got married because we used my mom's coupons.  Got $126 dollars worth of food for about $100.  We haven't saved that much since then, but we also don't buy $126 worth in a week anymore.  That was our we need to buy everything trip.  Clip those in the paper you buy on a regular basis or might buy.  If you don't mind store brand, that is usually cheaper than the coupon and brand name, but there are times that the  brand name is on sale (Kroger) and with the coupon it's cheaper.

And I second all those who have said they don't get how people can buy $500 dollars worth of stuff and only pay $20.  I watched it once, and was so confused.  I clip coupons from the paper, online, and sometimes from product's websites and still only save 10 dollars tops.

Recipes Fettuccini Alfredo Jul 21 2011
15:50 (UTC)
2
8 oz  whole wheat fettuccine

1 tbsp  butter
3  garlic cloves
2 tsp  cornstarch
3/4 cup  chicken broth
3/4 cup  parmigiano-reggiano cheese
3/4 cup  0% greek yogurt

According to CC - 292 calories per serving.

Cook the pasta.  Melt the butter in a pan.  Add crushed garlic, cornstarch, chicken broth.  Once heated add the cheese.  Remove from heat and slowly add the greek yogurt (it will curd if you add it too quick to something hot).  Might want to add some of the sauce to the greek yogurt then add that into the pan.  That's what I do for my Penna alla Vodka (2 cup sauce and 1/2 cup yogurt, so simple and topped with basil taste yummie!).

Or...if I'm too lazy, I eat about 200 calories of pasta and add 1/8 to 1/4 cup store bought alfredo sauce (get the 80 cal for 1/4 cup kind though).  It is less in calories and quicker, but making it taste better.

Wish would go away: Angelina Jolie. I haaaaaate that crazy man stealing b****. I avoid her movies like a vegan avoids McDonald's.

Wish was in every movie: Zooey Deschanel. I loove her! I have never heard or seen anything trashy about her. And she is perfect. I have SUCH a girl crush on her. Can't wait for her new show to start this fall. I wish she and Eddie Izzard would get together and have amazing babies. He is my "wish was in everything" for a man.

Great forum topic!

Wish would go away: Angelina Jolie (I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't stand her.  She isn't all that pretty esp. with her huge lips!).

Wish was in every movie: Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell - both my top actors

"Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend." — Stephen King

I found this and thought it was hilarious.  Although I'm a fan of both series.  HP definitely has more depth to it.

I love that quote.  I'm a huge HP fan (seeing the movie this afternoon).  I am not a fan of Twlight.  In the previews I only saw it being a teenage love story, which is what I got from the last 10 minutes I ended up over hearing of the first movie.  We have enough of those around, now we have 8 HP movies! :D

The Lounge getting married tonight....what DETAILS might i forget?? Jul 09 2011

Just a few things I forgot or could have forgotten:

My vail, my Dad had to run home to get this one :D (and anything dress related)

sewing kit, clear nail plish, nail polish remover, various over the counter meds.  Befofe you head to the church/wedding location walk about your house and if you see something you might need, bring it.  You never know.

You can also search wedding day emergency kit and you'll find a list of things.  I made up a bag of stuff to take days before because I knew I'd forget it if I waited till last minute.

Congrats and have a great day!  And if something does go wrong it's okay.  It'll be fine.  I even tripped walking down the aisle during the recessional.  I laughed since I knew something would go wrong and that might as well be it.

The Lounge Which side of the bed? Jul 05 2011

I sleep on the side closest to the door and furthest from the window (this one beats out closest to the door).  In my first apartment (just me) the window and door were on the same wall, so I slept furthest from both.

Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
