130, the perfect weight for me! :)

Name 3 moments you're looking forward to in the next year!
Upping my cal intake to maintenence level, going to the shore for 2 weeks at the end of june, the end of the school year

Who is the one person who hinders your weight loss success?
hm...I guess either my mom or relatives, who make me feel pressured to eat things when I dont want them :\

Who is your biggest fan and supporter on your weight loss journey?
I dont have any, I'm on my own -_-

What is one piece of advice you'll never forget?

I bet there's aspartame in it, so I would recommend water,

aspartame is just nasty for you, it's been linked to all sorts of things from brain fogginess to alzheimers, blindness to cancer, I think you get the idea

Water is not only much cheaper, but it's also much more eco-friendly and more convenient,

the american diet is a real salt mine, it's really gross

You can make your own cheeses, pretty simply actually, all you need is organic milk (organic is much healther for you and the environment), vinegar, and any flavorings you want

Dont worry about it! I've had days where I eat ridiculous amounts, like one day I had a bowl of pasta with alfredo sauce and broccoli, half of a 9 inch calzone, and 2 slices of pizza all when I wasnt even hungry!

I always get back on track, though, and maybe from now on you should have a day each week or every other week when you eat what you want to keep from binging like that again :)

Weight Loss Cold hands and weight loss? May 10 2010

Original Post by fade_the_great:

It could be from poor blood circulation.

Try eating more foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids.  They will help reduce painful blood vessel spasms possibly responsible for a shutdown of blood flow. Fish is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids but since you are vegetarian you'll have to stick with nuts and oils.

I was vegan for five years but I had to go back to eating animal products because I was developing serious health problems. The iron supplements might not be enough on their own. You should try upping your tofu, lentils, and leafy green vegetables. The extra iron will increase your body heat.

Are you drinking enough water? Being dehydrated reduces your blood volume. Make a point to stay well hydrated by consuming enough water and fluids. Avoid caffeinated beverages because they constrict blood vessels.

I suffered from cold hands for nearly a year. My hands would get so cold that my fingers would be in too much pain to even hold a pencil. In my case, the cold hands went away after I became a vegan and started losing weight. I also did a lot of exercise during that time which helped to increase my blood flow. Are you exercising enough?

I do like nuts, especially almonds and pistachios, and I'll try to eat more of them, I definitely drink enough water and exercise enough, but I also like tea (natural), but I'll try to avoid it unless it's the kind without caffeine,

My iron supplement has 361% of the DV, they do suggest vegetarians take in 2x as much iron as normal people, but my blood test showed that I have a healthy red blood count, I'll try to eat more tofu, lentils, spinach, and kale along with the nuts though, thanks :)

I have read about reynaud's too, but why would it just start up only a year ago? I'll ask my doctor about it next time I go though, I kind of hope it's reynaud and not due to a heart condition I have :( (Im going to my cardiologist soon, too)

I do understand that weright loss will lead to being more cold, but it shouldnt be this much :(

Thanks for all your replies! :D

Cliff bars and mojo bars are good,

Oatmeal Banana Energy Bars

(Makes a 9 inch square pan)

  • 2 cups oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup flax seeds (ground or crushed)
  • 4 Tbs Rice Protein Powder
  • 1 cup vanilla rice milk (we like Pacific)
  • 6 Tbs egg replacer (like Ener-G or Flax Seed jel) or 1 large egg + 1 egg white
  • 2 bananas- ripe and pureed (or sub fruit/pumpkin puree, equal to 1 cup)
  • 1/2 cup applesauce- unsweetened
  • 1/4 cup agave, maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (omit if adding chocolate)

Add-ins if desired

  • 1/2 cup Enjoy Life chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup nuts of choice, crushed
  • 1/2 cup dried fruit (we like cranberries)
  • Replace 1/2 fruit puree with peanut or almond butter

Mix all ingredients together (well), and place in prepared 9 inch square pan.  Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for approx 40-45 minutes.  Cool and slice into desired size bars.  Store loosely covered in the refrigerator. For travel, we simply remove bars and wrap them in a cloth napkin secured with a safety pin, string or band.

We like to make fruit purees (pumpkin, zucchini, apple, banana, prune, fig, etc.) and store in the freezer in 1 cup portions, then the desired flavor can be pulled out and used in baking and cooking.

Fruit and Nut Bars (Gluten Free)

Makes one brownie pan (ours is about 6×10)

  • 1 cup dried fruit of choice (cranberries, blueberries, bananas, apples, cherries, strawberries) home dried in low heat dehydrator is best to remain food integrity.  You want the fruit to remain tender, not crunchy if you’re going to use it in this recipe.
  • 1 cup dates (whole- roughly chopped, do not buy pre-chopped)
  • 2/3 cup Raw almonds
  • 2/3 cup Raw cashews
  • 2 tsp. finely grated citrus zest (lemon, orange, lime)
  • 3-4 drops almond extract if desired

Spray or oil pan, set aside.

Place fruit, dates, zest and extract in food processor/blender/Vitamix and process until you have a smooth paste.  Pour into a bowl and set aside.  Pulse nuts in blender until finely chopped but not pureed/mushy.

Combine nuts and paste.  Mix well (fingers work best).  Transfer to prepared pan, smooth and allow to sit until firm.  Store tightly covered in refrigerator, makes about 8 bars.

Vegetarian Vegans, I need your help May 07 2010

I'm not vegan, but I have tons of recipes;

Vegan Pumpkin Cheesecake
3/4 cup shelled hemp seed
1 cup warm water
1/2 cup raw honey
16 oz firm tofu
1 cup canned organic pumpkin
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp Arrow root
1 organic graham cracker crust

Method:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. In a blender, puree shelled hemp seeds with water until smooth.

3. Add remaining ingredients and blend.

4. Pour mixture into graham cracker pie shell, and bake for about 30 minutes

Zucchini Cake:

INGREDIENTS
1 medium zucchini
1/2 cups pitted dates
1/2 cup water
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teapoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 medium apple, shredded
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup cocoa
1 cup Sucanat or organic brown sugar
1 cup vegan chocolate chips
8 ounces soy yogurt
4 tablespoons ground flaxseed mixed with 12 tablespoons water until gelatenous
1/4 cup light vegetable oil
1 tablespoon vanilla

1. Shred zucchini, place in a colander to drain for 15 minutes, then squeeze excess water out.

2. Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a 10-inch Bundt pan.

3. Over medium heat, cook dates, stirring, in water until you have a smooth and thick liquid.

4. In a large bowl mix flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add shredded apple, then stir in zucchini, dates, cinnamon, cocoa, Sucanat, chocolate chips, yogurt, flaxseed gel, oil and vanilla.

5. Pour into prepared pan. Bake 45 minutes, or until tester comes out clean.

Banana Pie: There's honey in it though, but you can take it out

INGREDIENTS
Crust
2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon canola oil
1/3 cup maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1 tablespoon vanilla

Filling
1 pound firm tofu
1 1/8 cups pitted dates
1 ripe banana
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/4 cup tahini
(2 tablespoons honey)

1. Preheat oven to 375F. Combine all crust ingredients in a mixing bowl, leaving out 1 tablespoon canola oil for oiling the pie pan. Oil a 9-inch pie pan, then press dough evenly into it. Poke a few holes in the dough with a fork, then bake for 10 minutes.

2. To prepare filling, place all ingredients in a food processor and blend briefly. Pour filling into prebaked pie crust and bake 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool before serving. (Or you could serve the filling as it is, without baking, as a pudding.)

Fitness How to keep workouts fresh and avoid plateau? May 07 2010

It's no myth that mixing up work outs can help ward off plateaus, but I wouldnt  be surprised if it IS a scam for them to get more money

I go to the gym 5-6x a week usually,

I go running 1- 2 times out of that, swim once ever couple of weeks probably, and am trying to fit in biking more, but the other days I do the eliptical.

I do 30 minutes of weight lifting before hand, there are several machines I do every time, a couple that I usually do, and some I do occasional- if I have enough time

Weight Loss When breaking through a plateau... May 06 2010
23:57 (UTC)
1

I broke my plateau by eating about 400 calories more than I usually do one day, then eating 300 calories less than I usually do the following day, and 100 less the next day to get:

2000, 1400, 1600

It helped right away, taking a break from exercise (maybe just a couple days) should help too :)

I'm going to start writing down each day how many calories I had, what my weight was, and if I went to the gym or not. My normal cal intake is 1700, so as long as my week's cal intake is less than 11900, I'm good :)

Mixing up your exercise helps too, like if you usually go biking, maybe swimming, the eliptical, or jogging will help

Young Calorie Counters I am a little clueless with calories, help me out? May 05 2010

As said already, NEVER eat under 1200 calories,

You dont need to lose weight, as also said, but going to the gym maybe 4-5 days for an hour a week rather than 3-4 for 45 mins would help, and weight lifting too, for tone up, since that will probably help more,

I wouldn't go under 105 pounds though,
