That kinda sucks. The new gym opening up only has technogym stuff. I wonder if it's really that bad?? They're supposed to be providing equipment for the 2012 Olympics. |

Hi everyone, Thanks for the advice. I mainly want to quit coffee because I use too much splenda and milk in it. I want to stop using splenda. I also find at 3-4 coffees a day, all that milk adds up. I tried drinking my coffee black....but I just can't do it. I'd rather have tea. |

Thanks so much for your reply. You're right, I probably could do it on my own. The only thing that I have difficulty with though is knowing how much weight I should be lifting and how many sets/reps. Any pointers? |

Original Post by amethystgirl: I'm 24. I've tried 1500 cals, but sometimes I feel like it isn't enough...maybe I'd be more comfortable at around 1800 cals...but I'm wondering if I will lose any weight at that number... |

Hi flightotc, After reading your post, I thought to myself wow, I've been through that. I've felt that exact same way. I'm a lot better now, but sometimes I still have major downs. The important thing is that I am getting better. And so will you. I'm not a psychologist nor a therapist, but to answer your question, what you're going through does seem to be depression. I had many of the same symptoms as you. I was very often sad and worried. I had no self-esteem and confidence and felt like I was never good enough. I would compare myself to others who I thought were better than me. On some weeks I would get no sleep despite the fact that I was exhausted, and on other weeks I would just sleep ALL the time. I would cry and cry on some days, sometimes I couldn't even explain why I was feeling the way I felt. I just felt it. And it consumed me. I lacked a lot of energy. I often turned to food to help me cope with my feelings. I would binge on bread, croissants, peanut butter, cereal, cheese, pasta, cakes, cookies....anything fattening and/or carb filled and sugary. And I felt sick afterwards. I too knew I would feel gross and disgusting after bingeing and that I'd feel extremely guilty, but I just felt like I couldn't stop myself. I felt sad and angry and took it out on the people around me. I became distant. I was just so sensitive to everything and everyone. I too didn't go to work sometimes because I couldn't get out of bed or because I had a panic attack during the night and didn't get any sleep. I also stopped studying because I just couldn't focus. I went to see a doctor and explained everything I was feeling and going through. I was then diagnosed with depression and severe anxiety. I felt like everything was going downhill for me and that I wouldn't get better, only worse. The doctor suggested I see a therapist. I did. At first, I didn't feel like it helped much. She told me it would be a long process and I would have to work hard to feel better. I visited the therapist on a weekly basis for several months. I did start to feel better and I began to view things differently, more positively. I still have my ups and downs and I still have a long way to go before I'm 100% ok. But I'm feeling much better and I've managed to build up my confidence, something I never thought I could do. I sleep better and I'm bingeing A LOT less. (However, I also upped my calories and started allowing myself to have a treat whenever I want...so I'm sure that helped as well). I definitely think you should bring this up to your counsellor. Your mental health is very important and you should take care of it. So many people go through this and it's very normal. I also think you should go see a doctor especially since you've been lacking energy. You never know, you may even have a nutritional deficiency which sometimes may cause people to feel depressed. Keep your head up, you will feel better!

Thank you both for your replies. I'm at about 22.8% body fat right now, I weigh 127 lbs and I'm 5'3''. I'd like to lose a few pounds and get down to about 118-120 (I used to weigh 118 but I gained weight! :( ). I'd also like to bring down my body fat to about 18-20%. Problem is, I don't really know how much I should be eating! I already eat several small meals a day but sometimes I'm not sure if I'm eating too much or too little and I'm not sure what the correct portions should be for me. Any advice on that? Thanks! |

Original Post by antibinge: I have a problem with self control AND I binge out of control :S Some examples of when I binge: -When I'm stressed -When I'm tired -On weekends, after eating healthy during the week. I tend to binge on any junk I can get my hands on! I just don't have the energy to prepare healthy meals and watch what I eat...I'm just so fed up after a long week of preparing meals, counting cals, watching portions etc...I wake up at 5:30 am for work 5 days a week, get home at 4:30 pm and have to study, prepare my meals, work out, have dinner shower etc...I barely have the time to relax...This is why on the weekend I tend to let go... Also, I hate going out for breakfast or dinner with my friends. It sucks having to eat egg whites and fruit while your friends are having fried eggs bacon waffles with english cream and breakfast potatoes...or having to eat chicken breast and veggies while your friends are having burgers and fries :( - After dinner, on weekdays... Sometimes after dinner I get cravings and I'll eat large amounts of bread, cereal and milk, peanut butter, ice cream, cakes if there are any in the house (I live with my parents and brother so I can't really control what they buy...)...etc...despite the fact that I eat clean during the day, making sure I get an adequate amount of protein, carbs and healthy fats. I don't know, maybe I wasn't getting enough calories? I was taking in about 1500 calories before...I think 1800 cals sounds like a better number for me. At the moment, I am not really counting calories and I'm kind ''off'' dieting. This has helped me to stop binging. Thanks so much for the advice! :)

Original Post by quado: Thanks for the reply! I appreciate it. Even if this is an older post, I'm still dealing with the same issue! I'm still at 125lbs, but I have managed to make some changes. I recently started lifting weights more often and I've increased my weekly workouts in general. I'm feeling much more energized than before. I also haven't binged in a while and I believe that's because I've increased my cals and I haven't been obessing so much over what I eat. I'm taking a little break. This is really helping me with my binge problem because I don't have too many restrictions. Sure, my weight loss might be slow but that's ok, I'm putting my mental health first for now. Once I feel I'm in control of what I eat, I will try to follow an eating plan that's a little more strict. I'd like to eat as clean as possible in the future but I'll still be allowing myself to a few cheat meals and indulgences every week :P. By the way, good job on the weight loss!! 20 lbs is amazing! Good for you! |

I'm wondering the same thing! Every day I have 2 or 4 cups of coffee with milk and 2 splenda in each. I sometimes also have flavoured watered sweetened with splenda and silhouette yogurt....How bad is it? And isn't splenda better than aspartame?.... |

This is SO not my type of eating plan. I prefer having six mini meals or 3 meals and 3 snacks. I wouldn't be able to survive with no snacking in between! :P |
