I really get what you mean. You sorta just laid out my own bedtime here too.

I also go to one of those rigorous competitive high schools. You have to like, take a test to get into the school, and then you're surrounded by all these ridiculous, highly competitive genius maniacal teenagers with no social lives. And then you find yourself losing it too. But thats besides the point..

Anyhow, I completely agree. When I was losing weight during the summer a few years ago, I felt more healthy, energetic, well-rested.

Nowadays, yes, I feel like I do burn more calories by walking around so much and being so tired. Sometimes i just feel way too sleep to eat. And when I do eat, I feel like thats just sitting in my stomach, staying there as weight. Its just really unhealthy over all.

I dont think I have a solution. But I sleep way more than reccomended during the weekends. I went to sleep yesterday (saturday) at 9. I usually go to sleep on weeknights at around 2:30 or 3. I woke up at 10 AM today (a sunday), and then went back to sleep at 1 and woke up again at 4.

I feel like I caught up on alot of sleep this weekend. I feel like it just sort of KIND of balances stuff out for me. Cause within the ratio, I get enough sleep on mondays. Sometimes, in the middle of the week, I just sleep on my two-hour commute. Or I get home from school and take a two hour nap, so that I can afford staying up till 3 doing hw.

Sucks though.

Good luck. =.= I hear college is much easier after graduating from one of these schools..

I believe many people would agree with me when I say that thats inherently unhealthy for a goal.

I've heard it said by someone on these CC forums that the rule of thumb is 100 for 5 feet, and then 5 pounds for every extra inch.

An ideal weight for you would probably be 120-140.

I don't know how old you are, but either way, that would be ideal for you.

103-104 would be good for someone from 4'10-5 feet.

Seriously. And this site is about staying healthy..

What I'd suggest is to up your calorie intake so that you don't accidentally fall into starvation mode (which may screw up your metabolism), and instead of just dieting.. excersize.

Afterall, muscle weighs more than fat does, but its also leaner. You want to get and stay healthy, afterall, not just rule your life by a number.

As for how long it would take.. CC has its own counter estimate, so you can punch in those numbers and figure it out.. but seriously, 106 for 5'4 is on the lowside in itself.

Ah, the Internet, where we can be anything we want to be, rather all we can be.

dnrothx, what exactly is that supposed to mean? O___o;

I fabricated an identity for myself? Well, I certainly could have, but what use would it be for me to be admired on an online forum anyway? It isnt as if I am striving for admiration from people I will never encounter in my life. im simply defending myself against presumptuous people.

(the parenthesis are just notes)

MY ESSAY-- draft:

Filial love, platonic love, and romantic love allow people to believe that they are needed by someone-- that they would be missed. Perhaps love is truly the thing we are most dependant on in order to survive; it keeps us from feeling lonely and it gives us a reason to keep living. In a world where you are small, lost, detached, and alone, what reason would you have to keep living? This dependancy on love and companionship is an evolutionary result of man's psychological development; a need to attain happiness and consequently fill a void. It is said that love equates happiness; any poet may say that a life without love is not truly living. This is under the assumption that living constitutes happiness, and that consequently, an unhappy life devoid of love will end unfullfilled. However, this definition, created by humans, is simply to prove the significance of a four letter word having been created to identify a feeling.

The word love was derived from nothing more than our irrevocable human tendencies to try and remove ourselves from our animal instincts by making them seem different. However, the concept of love shows just how animalistic we truly are. The only purpose of the concept of love, is to further justify our absurd existence on this earth. We don’t want to admit that such strong feelings are just functions like urinating and breathing. Our egotistical brains can’t reconcile with that. (

Although humans have attached so much to a simple four letter word, even they themselves do not respect the word as much as they claim it's significance to be. Walking through the halls of any high school, at any given second you may hear several different people exclaim exchanges of affection such as “I love you,” to best friends, significant others, and even mere acquaintances. This renders the word love as insignificant and common, because it is simply another verb in the english language. Love is now a superficial ideal that has already lost all fantastical value, because the humans that have built up it's significance with praise, do not treat with the respect they claim it deserves.

True love, if you must assign a meaning to the word, is simply a instinctual mechanism that humanity has latched onto and assigned additional meanings to. It is, in fact, nothing more than a series of chemical reactions and interactions designed to make quite sure that we reproduce.  Particularly strong hormonal surges can influences human thought patterns and physical behavior-- a light-headed feeling, sweating, or that warm fuzzy feeling you get. Love at first sight is simply “an extremely strong physical response to the subject in question,” parallel to Webster's definition for a hormonal surge.

In Shakespeare's play, Romeo is angst-ridden and sulking because Rosaline has rejected him, so he goes to Capulet's party because he has heard that Rosaline will be there. Suddenly, Romeo sees at Juliet and it is supposedly true love at first sight. He starts flirting with her, and they kiss several times, without knowing one another's names or clearly seeing eachother's faces. Their second encounter constitutes Romeo climbing over the Capulet wall for the famous balcony scene. It is not as romantic as common-belief claims, considering that his climbing the Capulet wall for Juliet, is comparatively equivalent to his sneaking into the Capulet party for Rosaline. Climbing the wall for Juliet, is more physically straining than the task of sneaking into the Capulet's house—a more underhanded task that he had done for Rosaline. In the scene following the climbing of the Capulet wall, Romeo asks Juliet to let go of her chastity, stating that followers of the Goddess Diana are fools. Is Romeo not the quite lusty teenager, asking a 14 year old girl for sex? ( Romeo is at least 16 or 17, because he owns a sword).

In general, I think the basis for the play renders the plot overrated. It will only be considered a romantic story from those who truly believe in the fantastical notion of soul mates. In any other assuming person's perspective, Romeo is simply a guy who becomes infatuated with his rebound girl, and Juliet is just another girl who has decided to rebel against her parents. Besides their supposedly destined love for each other, both Romeo and Juliet have other reasons of incentive to fall in love with their sworn enemies. These reasons seem more significant to the basis of their love, than the concept of love at first sight. ( Of course, I understand that the whole point of the play is for us to believe in love at first sight. Without such a belief, the whole tragedy of Romeo & Juliet would seem sheerly stupid to the reader. And It does).

I am sorry, no love. The OP called the play dumb.

Homework is homework. I am sure her teacher wants them to do the assignment themselves. Get off the internet and try to think/focus on the essay. Looks like the OP has some good thoughts already started above to work from (except for the dumb comment ...).

Students should do their homework themselves and focus on it. We won't be there when she is taking her test, will we?

And, no, when I am at work I do not ask people on Calorie Count to help me with my assignments :P

I'm sort of offended by your whole comment, but you've the right to do what you please anyhow.

Just to let you know, I finished my essay by the third response I got on CC. This post was no technical use to me. And it wasnt really an essay either-- not a really big fraction of my grade. It was more like a homework-response essay. Not a Formal Literary Essay, nor a Term Paper.

I just thought itd be an interesting discussion.. so I decided to pose the question. From the recent responses, i certainly think its amusing so far.

haha, in any case, i took a completely different route with my "essay" anyhow, if anyone would like to read it, i'll post it up.

i wonder how my teacher will grade such a cynical response O___o;

oh, and to nycgirl, i was certainly not asking for answers from CCers. It was just a thought for a discussion (I didnt take any of the few suggestions i had gotten anyhow, despite how awfully amusing they've been to read). English is my strongest subject, and I'm currently the only one I know with an A+ in this class.. I take writing pretty seriously, and I wouldnt ask someone to do my homework for me, mainly because I wouldnt trust them. Oh, and considering your sn is nycgirl, just so you know.. i go to a selective high school in NYC, so an A+ isnt exactly simple thing to get when you're surrounded by elitists. I dont mean to sound like a braggart, but I'm pretty offended. Of course, your assumptions were justified, I suppose.

anyone want me to post my response up? ;]

Are you to answer the question "what is Love" in the story of Romeo and Juliet or in real human life?  Don't you think love is just quiet acts of kindness, charity, empathy etc.?

We have to explain what love is, in OUR opinion and then comment on Romeo & Juliet's love in comparison.

ridiculous..

i wanted to be a lawyer up until i was about 11.. thats cause i wanted to go to Yale.

i was 11 when i realized that Yale isnt simple to either get into nor afford. and that theres a whole technique to debating and how many years it takes, and how much money it takes to get a good job or make a successful firm cause it takes money to get a good degree, regardless of your grades.

...sounds pretty &$*$)@# hard.

so yeah. now im 14, and all i want to do is be successful when i grow up..

to a party like that, i would just carry huge sacks of fake cash.. o__o;

occasion - first day back at college

today i wanted to wear this, but while i was doing my hair and make-up the top became more and more uncomfortable (cheap, badly made) so i had to quickly change it for the shirt i wore yesterday morning before i ran out the house and didn't have time to take a photo. i wish i wore the first outfit though!

Ohh I really like how you dress! ^__^

This is what I wore to orientation day, 9th grade.

haha, not a "freshman" though, cause I go to a 7-12 school =P

PIIIIIIICTUUUUUUREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I find it absurd when people overdo it and dress up way too much just to impress everyone on the first day back..

So I dressed down, just for the occasion. =)

Brown tank top, from H&M

Gray 3/4 sleeved Be-Bop ruffled-front sweater.

Earnest Sewn designer jeans #57; dark wash.

Messenger bag with stars on the front (my first name means star)

Black sandals w/.... chains on it? from Pacsun.

I really like looking at different people's clothing styles, Its so interesting!

I was in second grade at the time, but I remember it vividly.

I could see the smoke coming out from the World Trade Center from the windows from my classroom windows.

I'm pretty surprised to see all these responses with people saying they were dismissed early..

I live IN the city, and we weren't dismissed early, although many kids were picked up early from school.

I think that everyone can recognize what an awful day this was, but being right up close is a completely different story than just thinking about this stuff.

I remember for days afterwards the streets were all empty and stuff, it took ages to kill the fire and stuff. They had cut off all MTA transportation, and I remember watching footage of people actually WALKING the fah-reaking bridges to queens and brooklyn. And those were only the daring ones. Everyone else was too scared to walk into the building or stay on the street, but much less get on a bridge that week.

well, i just finished 8th this year; ill be starting 9th this september.

i know what you mean about the pressure to be on honor roll (in my case, its especially if all your friends are on it..). I was accepted to a 7-12 high school, so graduation wasnt my concern in 8th grade, but i can still understand your feelings..

well.. first off, saying you want to do well in a school year.. wont work. -shrugs- sorry.. usually, people (like myself) start off every single school year saying something like that.

if you dont force yourself to do well, youre just going to slack off (cough. like myself).

its easy for me to suggest you study for all of your tests and go over class notes every night, in order to sound like a smartass in class. but for some people, its still impossible to get on honor roll with that.

what i suggest, is that you make a schedule for yourself. this would even work well with your calorie count.

you can change stuff around, like, if you want to watch tv before hw rather than after. but this is just an example:

6 AM: breakfast

7-8 AM: commute

8 AM-3 PM: school

3-3:30 PM: snack

3:30-6:30: two FULL hours of doing your homework to the best degree possible.

whenever you finish your hw to 7: tv

7 PM: dinner

8-10 PM:  two FULL hours of studying ANYTHING you can, even if you dont have to.

11: bed.

if you make a schedule like that, and FORCE yourself to NOT get up from your desk for two full hours and just sit and study.. youll get somewhere. but thats only if you stay commited.

heyy, just turn it around-- be an optimist! =DD

think about this: some people hit a plateau when theyre on the same calorie  restriction for a while.

You probably did your body some good today, cause the extra 450 is getting your metabolism running, get it? Which means it might be even easier for you to lose weight later on! isnt that awesome?! cheat days are actually encouraged, cause your metabolism gets too used to your regular deficit, cheat days HELP you!

dont worry! everyone slips up, but i wouldnt consider this is as a slip up!

dont be so ":(" hehe, this was probably good for you. (do ya feel enlightened?)

before, i didnt have any cheat days at all, and now i give myself 2 per week (i dont binge, but i just stop myself from counting incessently and eat whatever in the world i crave!), and ive seen some better results. i feel so much better about myself too! =D
