Weight Loss Over Eaters Anonymous Mar 18 2010

OA can be very helpful. It is more a journey of finding out who you are and why you overeat. It is based on the same 12 step program as AA. You accept that there is a higher power than yourself (for some that is God) and you turn over contol. By having a sponsor you can get help from someone who has experienced the same type of problems. One of the things that I got out of it was my weight does not determine who I am. I am the same person inside whether I weigh 130 or 230. Obviously I am much healthier at 130. They do not tell you what to eat or what you should weigh but it is the support of the group.

I can relate to so much of what you have written. I'm still struggling with the sugar. My mind knows that I need to get it all out of the house but I still feel the pull of the addiction. Still thinking that I can have some just not as much. Years ago I joked about being addicted to sugar but did not realize at the time that it wasn't a joke just the truth. I've tried so many fad diets that ultimately did not work as I gained the weight back. I know it's a lifestyle change that has to come in order to keep the weight off. I love this site and all the encouragement it offers. Life stories such as yours that show it can be done. Congratulations and keep up the good work.

Lots of great ideas but truly appreciated the post from joebirdsall. I haven't been counting long but really have to be careful what I call it. I'm not going to beat myself up if I have more than the recommended calories for the day. Next day just try to stay a little closer or just under. I know that cutting everything out for me doesn't work as it seems then I have a panic attack eating everything in sight. Moderation, awareness and making good choices seem to be keys to follow.

Wow! Didn't realize so many people had the same good idea. I work 2nd shift and don't get home till 3 AM. The first thing I would do was grab something to eat and head for the computer. When I decided to try to lose weight this time I felt the need to make a lifestyle change rather than the fad diets. The first thing to go was the snacking after supper. When I come home I like to have a cup of hot tea to relax as I check my emails now. Keep up the good work everyone.
