Very confusing!! I didn't like it at all. It's very nice to view the old version back now, please make it permanent or at least give us the permanent option to switch between them.

I don't know if it's a bug but on the new analysis page all the bars going up were red, well if they're going up and it means a positive deficit then they should be green as I'm into a weight gain diet, like they did on the old version. Maybe it's counting as if I was into weight loss and not working the opposite way for who's into weight gain? Or I just didn't get the "inversion" thing...

Please don't forget us the minority who use this site for weight gain purposes. And don't forget to make the site workable for us too!

I'm finding this 'cals remaining' thing very confusing or at least didn't understand its use at all for my situation, I much more prefer the old net calories. I sometimes used to count them to estimate my weight as I don't own a scale and it was even accurate at times. I don't care how many cals remaining I have, only the deficit is what really matters to me.

Also I miss the water log on food log, it's very annoying having to go to main page to log water as everytime I log one cup of any liquid with calories or not I count it also as "water".

The Lounge Heartbreak and weight loss Feb 04 2012

I lost 10 pounds after serial heartbreaks. It was not fun in any aspect, I was already underweight and it was rather a problem for me. All I could force myself to eat was cookies and a cup of juice for days. Hated it as I wasn't trying to lose.

If I can give any advice, by my own experiences, it's don't stay around him, at least while you are recovering. If I was still seeing him I doubt I would get over it too "soon", and it took over 6 months for me.

Wishing you get well soon, I know it sucks but things will get better with time.

I just answered another poster a similar question here.

What I had to say is almost the same as 80schikka said, try replacing part of the junk food by healthy foods, but you don't have to avoid it totally.

You have almost the same stats as me, I am 5'4" too, and started at 88lbs (only 89 now :/), but I am 21. Also don't have an eating disorder just lack of appetite and fullness. So if you ever want a buddy let me know. Wink

Here's all I know, if I forgot something you'd like to know feel free to ask:

First you should know how much your caloric expenditure is. You can calculate in this site but this other calculator will give a more precise result.

Then add 500-1000 calories to this for gaining weight.

A balanced diet should have 45-65% of your calories from carbs, 10-35% protein, and 20-35% fat. This site calculates how many grams you will need of each in your nutrition settings.

If you don't want to just gain fat you can do some exercise, gym, running, dance, etc. Remember to count your activity level when calculating your expenditure.

Ensure and Boost are good supplements, also if you are going to exercise you could add some protein powder/shakes to your diet.

I personally choose dance as toning when I get better of my health. Smile Dancers are fit and have great legs. And I definitely was happier when I was dancing.

Yes, your net calories should be of 500 to 1000. If you're having 1000 and gaining less than 2lbs per week then you can increase it. It's just not healthy if you gain more than 2lbs/week. Otherwise I don't think it will hurt, I see plenty of people your age at this site gaining weight.

Maybe get your thyroid checked?

Thyroid problems can cause you to suddenly gain or lose weight even if your eating habits haven't changed. I'm not assuming there's anything abnormal with you though, I'm not a doctor. Was just the only answer that came to my mind. And also I'm not sure if it's normal for your age or not.

I think you would get more responses to your questions if you post this on health and support forum.

Indeed.

I've observed it in my family, my grandmother was abusive to my mother, so was my mother to me. And I don't want my children to go through the same. I know how much damage was caused to me and would never want it to someone I love.

I'm still struggling to move from this abuse, and yes it's a hard work, even more when they know how to make us the guilty ones so well.

I counted roughly 1450 calories, that is not enough for weight gain. She should add like 1000 calories to that. To be precise we would have to know her age, height, weight and activity level.

She should be having the amount she needs to maintain her current weight plus 500-1000 calories for gaining. Some people may need more depending on their metabolism, I think.

Ie: if she needs 1500 to maintain her current weight then she should have 2000-2500 to gain. If she's too underweight and ill then the higher amount is more advised, but can be increased slowly like adding 250cal every 3 days to avoid discomfort.

You can calculate the amount she needs to maintain clicking on tools>burn meter, or if you give me her stats I can calculate for you.

As she doesn't like ensure then she should at least have multivitamin+minerals pills.

And for food ideas you can look other people's meal plans on "what did you eat today" thread on top of this forum.

The Lounge I Don't Always Drink Beer... Jan 15 2012

Plans for this weekend: Nothing. I'll probably stay bored with nothing to do like I'm being these days.

Horrid fashion choices of your past: Not quite horrid, but I'd dress like this at high school, hair clips and all, except I had to wear uniform. I was crazy about Japan fashion, I still love it but... was not the occasion. Now I see why the kids picked at me so much. The harajuku girl to emo transition is what was really hideous... *facepalm*

Horrid fashion choices of your present: clothes that I wore when I was 10 years younger.

Horrid fashion choices of today you cannot under any circumstances forgive even your flesh and blood for wearing: hmm.. there are quite some, but the only I remember right now are "nude" color clothes/makeup, blah I can't stand wearing these not even for underwear as I love bright colors (or black when I'm not in a bright mood). Black will never go out of fashion, but if bright colors ever become crappy, I don't care, will still wear them!

2011 wasn't really a year of changes for me, was rather a ****** up year that nothing worked the way I expected. I hope to in 2012 finally accomplish my so waited changes.

Anyways there were a few ones:

  • Left behind the cause of my problems started late 2010, was very tough at first but now I'm glad I did it
  • Moved to another home (not my choice)
  • Found some great bands
  • Made a few good friends, in the internet but still
  • Became a little less shy
  • Got some work done what I've been procrastinating for ages, though less than what I should have done
  • Decided to set fixing my weight as the main priority
  • Started to care about nutrition and learnt many recipes, I hate cooking/baking but got to eat
  • Last half of 2011 overcame great part of the problems started on end of 2010, and grew as a person more than any other year, that's certainly the most important change happened last year.
  • And joined this site :D

Not true.  I read every single one.  People are fascinating.

Well that's only two, so maybe I couldsay, I bet only a couple of folk read these surveys!

Nope. I read everyone's facts, as I do with other topics here in the lounge. I'm just too quiet.

Sweetie, I'd do almost anything to have your body!! You look gorgeous! I don't think it's necessary, but if you lose any weight, please don't lose too much. You have beautiful curves and a small waist, not flab.

Weight Gain Losing Weight instead of gaining?? Jan 07 2012

I think that was because when you started with 2500 you were having enough to repair your body and gain weight at the same time. And now you're only having enough to repair (or barely). Yes it will probably start to work when you raise your calories. Just don't worry too much for what the scale shows before you get steady on your goal calories.

Weight Gain Losing Weight instead of gaining?? Jan 07 2012

Same happened to me. I've been adding 250cal every 3 days, after a week I weighed myself and gained less than a pound, the next week I lost more than half of it, ok I haven't eat well that week because I was feeling sick but still, that was way more than what I started with and not less than what I was eating when I gained.

I guess it's different for us that always been skinny than those who lost weight and are trying to recover.

The only explanation I heard for that is that the extra calories we are consuming are being used to fix any possible damage done to our bodies due to undereating and it will only start to set as body mass (fat and/or muscle) when our bodies get to a healthier state.

I live in Brazil, was born here. You probably heard about brazilian women's curves, I don't fit the stereotype. I seriously think about moving to somewhere men are less shallow.

Not All Processed Foods Are Created Equal
Fact: a diet containing whole, fresh fruits and vegetables is one of the best for a healthy mind and body. Although true, it can be hard to keep food fresh at home for longer periods of time, and if you have no time to shop every few days, boxed and canned foods become appealing. We often hear about heavily processed frozen dinners and processed foods worth avoiding, but there are minimally processed foods that do pack a lot of nutrition and may be worth having in the fridge or cupboard.
