I used to work at a restaurant that served grits as a side with one of the dishes.  They put it on the menu as "sexy grits".  Now what would make grits "sexy", I'm really not sure.

Daily weighing on the scale is a big no no and is bound to frustrate anyone who tries it whether you are trying to gain or lose weight.

I disagree.  A lot of the times, I'll weigh myself daily.  I used to weigh myself multiple times a day, and it really gave me a good idea on how fluctuations work.  It doesn't work for everyone, but for some people, daily weighing is just fine.

What? I don't even watch the Simpson's and I'm already an also ran. Here I thought I was being somewhat, er, humourous.

Alas, I will keep pondering..

Well my problem was that the first time I ever heard it was on the Simpsons, so I also thought it was "in the garden of Eden" but mainly because that's the whole joke in that part of the episode.  So I grew up thinking that people who thought it was "in da gadda da vida" were the ones who had it wrong! :)

Hmmm, what about "MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark, all the sweet green icing flowing down, Someone left the cake out in the rain"

Man my brother and I  used to laugh at that song. Wait those are the lyrics. Okay, what about the tune by Iron Butterfly, I thought they were saying "In the garden of eden"..but it's In da gadda da vida".

but seriously, CCR said it best "There's a bathroom on the right".

They did that in a Simpsons episode. :D

The Lounge About how much hair do you lose a day? Jun 16 2011

When my hair is grown out, I shed like crazy.  When it's shorter (shoulder length or shorter), it's less noticable.

I have insanely thick hair, like way crazy thick.  I hacked my hair off in December because I couldn't do anything with it.  It was taking me an hour and a half to straighten my hair.  Part of this was because I didn't have the best iron, but I've since upgrade to a Chi and it still takes me 30 minutes with shoulder length hair.  And that's me going fast!

This Honda commercial! I didn't think of actually looking up the lyrics until now, but I kept thinking that the song in the commercial says "I'm a ninja, i'm a HORNY ninja..."

It says "I'm a ninja, I"m a hooded ninja".  I guess that makes more sense.

AHAHAAHA!  My friend and I are huge mc chris fans and this made me laugh to no end.

The Lounge Would you rather burn more or refrain from consuming extra calories? Jun 16 2011

Though it's easier to just eat less, I'd rather burn more.  I like food, and am happy with the amounts I eat right now.  Plus, if I ate less, I probably wouldn't be able to try half the things I get to try.  My boyfriend and I are big food nerds, so we love to try new foods and places to eat.

Plus, I love to work out (once I'm actually in the habit of doing so).  I'd probably work out more than I do now if I had the time, but I don't.

Last year we spent 4th of July at our old neighbor's house.  Their daughter is around 6 years older than me and has two kids of her own now (6 and 4, I think).  One of them came up to me and asked if she could sing me a song.  It started off cute and kid-like, talking about unicorns and fairies, then she started singing about how much she loved to drink Guinness.  This went on for the rest of the night.

Her mom later explained to me that she had mistaken one of mommy's beers for pop one time and took a drink, thus she discovered her love for Guinness.

I also had a cousin who would say really messed up stuff when she was little.  We lived with them for awhile when she was around 7.  She got sent home from school one day for going up to her music teacher and yelling "Look who's raping you now!"

You are going to have fluctuations.  If you can't deal with them, than ditch your scale and start taking measurements.

I'd take water weight any day over actual gained weight (fat).

The Longshoreman's Lament by the Falcon.  Actual lyrics: "For some reason this greasy dead season's running circles around me."

What I hear: "For some reason this greasy Kevin Bacon's running circles around me."

I don't know why.  I still hear it, even in my head.  That's how I hear the damn song.  I don't know if it's because it says "greasy" and that reminds me of bacon, which in turn reminds me of Kevin Bacon?  That's the best I can think of.

^^This.  I hate when people tell people to stay together for the kids.  Total BS.  Long run, your kid is going to benefit from living with parents/a parent who aren't constantly fighting because the dude is a disgusting a.$hole (in your case).

If you dont eat enough, your body will start to slow you down to conserve energy.  You will be tired and lethargic.  And in a constant bad mood.  Sucks for the people around you.

And if you do it long enough, you can... you know... die.

"Individuals experiencing starvation lose substantial fat (adipose) and muscle mass as the body breaks down these tissues for energy. Catabolysis is the process of a body breaking down its own muscles and other tissues in order to keep vital systems such as the nervous system and heart muscle (myocardium) functioning. Vitamin deficiency is a common result of starvation, often leading to anemia, beriberi, pellagra, and scurvy. These diseases collectively can also cause diarrhea, skin rashes, edema, and heart failure. Individuals are often irritable and lethargic as a result.

Atrophy (wasting away) of the stomach weakens the perception of hunger, since the perception is controlled by the percentage of the stomach that is empty. Victims of starvation are often too weak to sense thirst, and therefore become dehydrated.

All movements become painful due to muscle atrophy and dry, cracked skin that is caused by severe dehydration. With a weakened body, diseases are commonplace. Fungi, for example, often grow under the esophagus, making swallowing unbearably painful.

The energy deficiency inherent in starvation causes fatigue and renders the victim more apathetic over time. As the starving person becomes too weak to move or even eat, their interaction with the surrounding world diminishes.

There is also an inability to fight diseases, and in females, irregular menstruation can occur."

If you really and truly think that it is OK to starve yourself to lose weight, I suggest you immediately see a psychologist.  I went through a two month period of being extremely poor when I was 20, where we had nothing to eat except about a cup of rice a day, and split a package of dried eggs for dinner.  I would NEVER EVER EVER EVER want to do this again.

A starvation diet is a diet consisting of eating 50% or less of what you burn.

Oh, and not to mention:

The Lounge What have your friendships withstood? Jun 15 2011

Truth be told, my friendships can only withstand very minimal issues, to an extent.  If you upset me, I will cut you out of my life faster than I can snap my fingers.  Doesn't matter who you are, be it one of my closest friends or a family member.

In the past, I took a lot of crap from people, and got to the point where I just wouldn't (can't) deal with it anymore.  I am fine living in solitude, so it really doesn't bother me.  One of my best friends throughout middle/high school and early adulthood, I cut her out of my life because she decided to do something I did not agree with (got married in order to use the guy for a place to live/money).  My father is, more or less, completely cut out of my life.  I currently will not speak with my sister until she decides to turn her life around (drugs/gang issues/currently in jail).

Could one of my friendships withstand murder?  It all depends on the reason why.  Senseless killing?  No.  Some kind of mental thing like PG said?  Probably, yeah, it really depends.  A "revenge" killing (avenging for rape or other horrible crimes)?  Yes.  Without a doubt, mainly because if given the opportunity, I probably would myself.  One of my closest friends was raped a few years ago and has suffered greatly because of it.  If I ever found the person responsible (little chance, as it was a random man around 1000 miles away from here while she was vacationing), I would kill him.

My friendships CAN withstand time and distance, any issues they may be struggling with, illness, etc.  Pretty much anything as long as they weren't doing something to hurt me or cause me or another friend/family harm.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Starva tion_Experiment

Read up on this, there's tons of links around.

A starvation diet is considered a diet where the person consumes 50% or less of what they output (burn).  So if your boyfriend is burning 3000 calories a day, 1500 or less is considered a starvation diet.

There are serious long-term health risks associated with starving, and that whole death thing kinda would suck.

That sounds about right prior to your exercising.  If you remain actively exercising, it's going to be closer to 2500.

Emotionally, I can connect with anyone.  At one time, I had very strong feelings for another female, though I never expressed them to her as I knew it wouldn't work out (was not planning to stay in that city for any longer than I had to be there).  I've always been able to get along with guys better, in terms of friendships.  I've found females attractive in the past.

The main issue for me would boil down to the actual act of sex.  I just prefer heterosexual sex, and really can't see myself enjoying it otherwise (partially because I just don't care for oral).

I don't let water weight bother me.  Just drink extra water to help flush out some of that sodium and you'll be fine in no time.

I'm going to say this assuming that you get a good amount of sleep a night (at least around 7 hours).

If you're hitting a wall at a certain time but would like to exercise after work, maybe try drinking a cup of coffee to boost your energy and help you get through your work out?  If you're NOT getting an adequate amount of sleep, you should start making rest a priority.

You have one of a few options.  You can keep on keeping on, or you can try to practice maintaining for awhile and come back in a month or so to your lower deficit.  Or you can give up, which we know you won't do. :D

Whichever of the two you decide, best of luck!
