back to zero again...

accidentally fell asleep before my sunday run and didn't wake up till dark, so that was a bummer.   but i still went down almost a pound since last week.   been drinking a lot of water, which helps.   also met a cute boy, been out on a few dates, and the butterflies in my stomach are an amazing appetite suppressant ;)

slowly narrowing the gap.  had a spectacular run on sunday - did my 2 miles, and kept going for another 0.6.  toyed with the idea of doing a full 5k, but decided against it (didn't want to do too much too soon).   i've been trying to incorporate some speed work into my runs, and i think it's paying off.

i've also started to do this june abs challenge i saw on pinterest, since core strengthening will help with the running too.

apologies for the absence - i spent a few days at home visiting family, skipped out on my running for 2 weeks, and got a little too gluttonous.  but i'm back on track, already ran twice this week, and i'm ready to make the most of these last 4 weeks!

weight is slowly recovering from my dehydration fiasco.   i did go for another run on sunday (in the early evening, cloudy/breezy conditions) and ran 2 miles with no problem at all.   been drinking lots of water in preparation for tomorrow's run during the daytime.   never want to feel that way again!

ok, so i have a pretty good explanation for this...   i went for a run yesterday with my co-worker, and we decided to do 2 miles at an easy pace.  i felt great for the whole 2 miles, but the sun was pretty intense and i guess i haven't done as well with my water intake this week.   post-run i got a nasty headache, nausea; felt like i had some mild heat exhaustion.  did my best to rehydrate myself, but i know that my body is holding on to every ounce of water it can.


@rrhenshe - ah, "the moment".  i know just what you mean.   while i struggle with it constantly, i've found that i'm less likely to have a back peddle on my resolve if i remove the probability of excuses.  for instance, it's much easier for me to maintain my resolve to bike to work if i have my bag packed/lunch made/clothes picked out/bike prepped all the night before - that way i can't tell myself "i can't do this because i'll have to do x,y,z".   the only excuse i leave myself is "i don't want to", and sadly that wins out a lot.   still working on that personal hurdle, but at least i can remove all the other excuses.

@healthymadison - i don't know anything about dukan diets, but my advice is to listen to that voice that made you write "i know it's not the best idea".   temporary diets produce temporary results.   better to stay the course, do it the right way, and keep it off for good!   we're all here for you, and believe you can do it!

aaaand...i'm back to zero!   had a much more balanced weekend - no take-out, but did down a lot of ginger ale because of a less-than-happy stomach.   managed to feel better by sunday, and had a really good run -  went for 2 miles without stopping.  

@beccaanic - yes, it feels fantastic to get it back!  sometimes it's hard not to get frustrated, though.   i remember how easy it was a few months ago, and i really want to kick myself for dropping the ball.   but as i regain my endurance and strength, i'm learning to forgive myself :)

@floriane - i like what you said in your last paragraph.  reminds me of a great quote i read the other day - "you will always succeed at trying".

without a doubt, i would've had a loss today...but i went out to the midnight showing of the avengers (really really great - go see it!) and lack of sleep makes me puffy.   overall, i had a great week - got my runs in with my running buddy, and i'm starting to feel like i've regained some of the strength/endurance i lost over the winter.   started doing yoga again to keep me a little more centered, and it really helps!   i've slept better since adding that to my routine.   only thing i slacked on was my biking goal.   i'm pretty good at sabotaging myself in the mornings, but i'll try and get some miles in this weekend.

@antipixie - it's always hard to see the numbers drop off, but don't let it discourage you!   it may be that your body's changing in ways that a scale won't show.   if you've taken measurements previously, take them again - you may be pleasantly surprised.

oh, weekends...this was a pretty lazy one, and i went out to eat at least 3 times.   and it's my turn to use the TOM excuse, yippie :/   i did get a pretty good run in yesterday, so that helped.   i'll drink some extra water today to balance everything out.

@jack_lynx, good luck with being at home - all that homemade stuff sounds awesome.   smart idea, coming up with a plan before getting there!  never hurts to be prepared.

good luck with the party,  healthymadison!   i tend to alternate alcohol with water/diet soda - keeps me from getting to drunksy and helps to curb the calories.

thanks for the hydration reminder, runyourlife - you really can tell the difference on a hot day.   the first think i do when i get to work is fill up my water bottle, and i try to drain it at least twice.

@runyourlife: i did manage to do my run on saturday - just a mile, but at least i did it.   it's finally starting to feel like summer around here, and i'm reminded of how much harder it is to run in warmer temps.

so, something's not going right here...and i'm almost certain it's my diet.  too much bad stuff, not enough good stuff.   luckily i restocked my fridge on sunday, so i have a nice selection of tasty fruits and veggies to gorge on.

Chin up, 2012!  Your gain is most likely water weight (stupid TOM...) - I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Stick to your goals, maybe drink some extra water to combat the retention, and I'm sure you'll see a loss next week!

Jack_lynx, as a (mostly) reformed nail biter, i feel for you! Nice job on the other goals, though!

Thursday nights I have bowling league, and i inevitably drink beer.   I'm guessing my gain has more to do with water than anything else...

I'm super proud that I met my bike commuting goal this week (2x - monday and today).   I love the experience of it - the view of the Golden Gate is worth it every time, and I saw a gaggle of goslings this morning (did you know they're bright yellow?  I didn't)! I did not, however, do any running.  Tues. my stomach was feeling iffy, and on Thurs. my running partner had a stiff neck.   I'm still trying to get myself to the point of running even if my partner can't go - can't use that as excuse not to anymore!   I'll be sure to get a run in on Saturday to make up for it.

All the easter candy is gone, now...good riddance.

For this next week, I'm hoping to plan my meals out a little better than i have as of late.   I only managed to bring my lunch to work twice this week, and I really ought to do it every day (although i have some pretty good options health-wise @ work).

it's nice to see a little loss, especially after the intense saturday i had!   did a 20 mile bike excursion along hwy 1 in santa cruz - soooo amazing, but holy cow the WIND...  biking north was like trying to swim upstream.   the first 10 miles took my buddy and i almost 2 hours to get through, but the return took less than 40 minutes.   my legs were jell-o by the end of the day.

date didn't happen :(  stupid jerk guy needed to check what time he could meet up, and never got back to me.   wtf...  i ended up texting him sunday afternoon, telling him i went ahead and made other plans and to not bother Undecided .

also, I BIKED TO WORK TODAY!!!   5.46 miles in 28.44, woohoo!

@johnhensler - good advice on making smart choices with fast food.  i'm not sure if other states do this, but here in california, chain restaurants are required to post calorie information on their menus.   i went to ihop yesterday and was absolutely floored by how many 1000+ calorie selections they had.   kinda takes the fun out of things, but ultimately it's nice to know.

ok, so on monday i had my scale in my room, which has this low-pile sorry excuse for a carpet in it.   thinking my readings weren't going to be as accurate as they should, i moved the scale into the bathroom with it's unforgiving hard tile.   BOY HOWDY...unforgiving indeed.   i've therefore struck monday's weight from the record, and am now substituting today's weight for my starting number.

other than that little snafu, the week's been good.   did my runs on tues and thurs (2 miles each, at a 3/1 interval).  wasn't able to do the bike-to-work thing because of persnickety rain forecasts, but planning a nice 20 mile ride for tomorrow.   i also have a date on sunday (woowoo!), and that always makes me think twice about eating things i oughtn't.

i did a lent-esque sugar/fast food prohibition that ended on easter (i wrote a little journal about it if you're interested in reading), and i can already tell that buying the discount easter candy was a mistake.  i'm just not ready for that kind of temptation, no matter how much i thought i grew from the experience.

congrats to those of you who lost between monday and today!  nice accomplishments.

Went to an A's game on Saturday, but managed to keep the snacking/beer consumption to a minimum.   Had awesome brunch on Sunday, but walked there and back, plus to the store (it was beautiful outside!)...at least 4 miles, plus some goofing around on playground equipment.   Satisfied my easter candy craving by making some homemade peanut butter eggs - yum!

way to go, brian!   i did my first bicycle commute at the end of february, and it was a surprisingly good experience.   i'm lucky that i live in a city that has bike lanes and paths, its a relatively flat ride to and from the office, and for the most part the weather's cooperative.   here's hoping that we can both keep it going - the saved gas money should be a huge motivation!

count me in, too!  i'm suz, and i just turned 30 two weeks ago!  over the past year and a half i was able to make some amazing changes - dropped about 15lbs (i went from the low 170's to high 150's, i'm about 6'0"), completed the C25K program and ran a few races - but the past winter months pretty much destroyed my progress (holidays, lack of motivation, rain...blah blah blah...).   a recent visit to the doctor revealed that i've gained most of the weight back, and i'm practically spilling out of the goal jeans i proudly fit into last year Undecided     

goals for these upcoming weeks: get back into the running habit - at least 3x a week!   i've already signed up for a 5k race later in the month, so that should help with motivation.   i'm also determined to bike to work at least 2 days a week - it's about a 12 mile round trip, so it's bound to help in my quest to get those jeans fitting well again.

first run of september...only 2 miles - was hoping for the usual 3+, but got some pretty intense cramps that wouldn't breathe out.
