You lost ten pounds in a month?! Dear, how much are you eating? (Or how little?) Ten pounds in one months seems like a lot. Do you count your calories? How many calories do you eat in a day? If you don't, it's fine. Try listing down how much you eat per day/ and how much exercise you do.

It could be that your body doesn't have enough calories..

That's because you've been restricting. Your body wants to hold on to every bit of food you give it. Your metabolism has been suppressed due to your under-eating. I don't think you will gain actual weight from eating 1800! When I was in recovery for anorexia, I had to eat 2500 calories a day to actually gain weight. But before recovery, I had mini-recovery attempts (by eating 1200 calories) and ended up gaining weight immediately. And I always thought, "this is unfair! 1200 isn't much! Why don't others gain on this? Why do I?". But it was never real weight. It's water weight, which won't change your appearance whatsoever. With an ED, it's possible to have a warped vision of yourself. You'll imagine the weight gain, when in truth, it's not there. Try to stop weighing yourself. Increase slowly. 1800 won't make you gain weight.

But it seems like you have to gain weight, though. You're underweight! Do you get your periods? You have to increase your intake. But mainly, you have to learn to cope without calorie counting, measuring everything and stressing about your weight. It'll get easier if you practice it often.

It won't be easy. I know. Talk to your parents. They may not understand sometimes. So explain it to them. EVERYTHING you're feeling, tell them about it. They might say, "oh things will get better", etc, etc (mine did). But tell them that you need their support for it to actually happen. If they don't completely understand what ED's are, let them read articles about it. Help them understand.

Good luck!

Do you have an eating disorder? Because I hope you know that having an ED doesn't make you look like a fashion model.

You are mentally ill. Therefore, recover! Mentally! Recovery doesn't mean "severly-underweight-patient-tries-to-gain-we ight". Recovery is learning to control your thoughts and attitude towards food. Learning eat without worrying about every morsel of food you put in your mouth. Not just weight restoration.

Good job on increasing your amount!

Reading about your parents made me angry. I know what you mean. Have you tried voicing out your opinion/about how you feel about their statements?

Thank you. Yes, I know I should be living for myself. And I shouldn't care hat others say. I am trying to like myself. But I was at my current weight a few years ago and was bullied so much for it (by friends, schoolmates, relatives and even teachers). I can't endure all that again. I can't. I don't know how to.

I'm eating approx 500-700 a day but will occasionally eat 1200 maybe once a week. (still very disordered) I have been maintaining this weight for a few months now I haven't gained anything yet maybe 1kg but it is more fluctuation I think.

1200 calories is still a weight loss amount. The lowest anyone should be eating.

If you start eating more, your periods will become more regular. It happened to me to. The first week I had it for two days and then two weeks or so later I got it again.

My hair fell out like crazy even whilst I was recovering. But once I reached a healthy BMI (and by that I don't mean 18.5. I had to gain even more). Not everyone has a BMI that's naturally 18.5 or less.

So I can tell you, or assure you, that eating more is the best remedy. Add more protein to your diet. And fat.

Are you serious? This is a health site. It educates you on being HEALTHY. Not tips on starvation. This made me so angry.

I might be wrong (and rather harsh - I hope not the latter) but this sounds like a troll. Either that, or this person's trying to self-diagnose. For some reason, I am so against self-diagnosing. If you think you have a problem, please, please, please seek medical help before it gets too out of hand.

Sarah, I completely agree with the comment above mine. You look so great with a BMI of 24! It's probably all muscle. I wish you could see how beautiful you are. You know, I'd say that even if you didn't have an ED - you really are beautiful!

Aw, my dear, I wish I knew the right words to say to you, but, honestly, I feel the exact same way. This could've been my post. Same BMI, same words said to me. Maybe you should visit a doctor? Someone who can guide you so you don't feel alone in this. <3

I had to gain to a BMI of 23. I naturally stopped being so obsessed with calories, and ate healthily after that and I lost weight naturally without trying! But your main focus should be proper eating. I hope you're getting your 2500cals a day!

50 calories extra will not make any difference at all! aw, don't worry. though, are you in recovery? aren't you supposed to be eating more? there's never such thing as too much food in recovery. <3

Health & Support Where'd my appetite go? Mar 25 2012

Original Post by jenn_x:

The reason your appetite has gone is because your body is tired of the bingeing. It wants a normal amount, it doesn't want restrictions or bingeing. Try at every meal to eat just enough until you feel full & then stop. This is how you will recover completely.

Oh if only I could stop bingeing. I still do have my binge days. I don't know what a normal amount is. Or perhaps, I do, and I don't feel comfortable eating that way. It's always all or nothing for me. I don't know. And I am so sorry, I'm such a sensitive brat - but I got all whiny when I read your comment. I took it as "you've been eating too much". Don't be angry with me, please! I am not bashing you or anything - I am only complaining about my own, silly misinterpretations and thoughts.

Yes! Sounds just like me. No, I am not on any medication at all. I've been getting anxious around food lately. I get hungry very often, but full too quickly.

My stomach's always bloated, and sometimes I can feel some sort of acidic reflux in my throat. I'm trying to eat tiny meals every few hours - I hope that works. Have you tried that? Thank you for your help, dearie.

When I was eating too little I was getting headaches every single day. How many calories are you eating? How old are you? How active are you?
