About

Bio

2 years college down, 2 more to go. Starting a Radiation Therapy program this September 2011.

Since I was at my lowest my weight has fluctuated 50 lbs, so one goal is definitely to be able to maintain a decent weight without it being a full-time job.

For a very long time I was gaining weight for no apparent reasons, and not maintaining at calorie levels and exercise amounts that any person my age would be easily losing at. But for that I am grateful, because otherwise there is no way I would have gone to the lengths that I have in terms of improving my fitness as well as thirst for knowledge about nutrition and exercise.

If it was easy, I would have stuck to running a few miles at 6 mph and doing crunches for a flat stomach. I wouldn't have bothered with pull-ups, would have been satisfied with 10 pushups, and have never known the fun of a circuit with burpees, mountain climbers, kettlebells swings, pushups and planks.

I still have a lot of work to do in terms of putting my knowledge to good use (will power, where art though?) and decluttering my workout routines, but all with good time, I hope.

Ultimately I have to change how I think, and that is so. damn. hard.

  • How do I tell myself to stop eating at night when it's so much easier to believe that a calorie is a calorie is a calorie at any time of day?
  • How do I convince myself that my body doesn't differentiate between food eaten at a normal meal, and food eaten in secrecy, one bite, fork, or handful at a time?
  • Or stop hoping for some kind of miracle that will give me back that metabolism that allowed me to eat crepes before bed and french toast in the morning and ice-cream out of boredom yet maintain a weight leaner than now with no physical activity or sport..

Anyway, I just moved to a new city, don't know anyone besides my roommates, so am always up for a good conversation!

Not All Processed Foods Are Created Equal
Fact: a diet containing whole, fresh fruits and vegetables is one of the best for a healthy mind and body. Although true, it can be hard to keep food fresh at home for longer periods of time, and if you have no time to shop every few days, boxed and canned foods become appealing. We often hear about heavily processed frozen dinners and processed foods worth avoiding, but there are minimally processed foods that do pack a lot of nutrition and may be worth having in the fridge or cupboard.

Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
