| Min, you reminded me of my trip to Europe. I encountered a bunch of Aussies and they all said "Wait, Sororities and Fraternaties are REAL? We thought that Hollywood made them up!" I wish. I was terribly amused, though. | |||

Feel free to eat there, just be careful. I, for one, love their sandwiches but the selection at yours may vary. Starbucks stores each get food from local(ish, obviously) places so the cookies in one may not be available in another. My sis eats and drinks there, even the caloric ones, but it is not a sedentary job, so she's actually lost weight while working there. *is soooo jealous*
Now she drinks iced espresso with 1 pump of some kind of syrup and thinks it's sweet. Ugh. Have fun! |

| If it's silken tofu, it's probably best in soups or purees as it isn't going to hold up well to anything else. My favorite thing to do with it is dump it in a blender with 1 package of melted chocolate chips and make chocolate pudding. You can sweeten it with honey, if you like, but I like mine DARK. | |||

| I just recently read an article on it. Can't remember where, sadly. It seems that if you start losing weight quickly, you can lose hair, so it's not abnormal. If you're concerned, though, you might want to see a doctor. | |||

*waves her hand* I'm a cat lady, although I got dragged into it kicking and screaming (some of you might remember my attempts at finding a new home for my younger kitty-demon).
My cats are Chibi-chan and Squall. Both are girls. Chibi-chan is the eldest and my very first cat. She's a beautiful blotched tabby with grey-green eyes and an evil streak a mile wide. You know how folks say de-clawing makes cats biters? That they prefer to use their claws? I've got news for them, some cats are biters to begin with. Like mine. (I'm not advocating declawing unless it's all that's standing between the kitty and homelessness, just sayin'). I love her, though, and she loves me as evidenced by her lack of attempts on my life. Lord help you if she DOESN'T like you, though. Squall is my younger, dumber kitty. She's a teeny-tiny tortie with air for brains. Her hobbies include bullying Chibi and trying to eat Navi from LOZ: Twilight Princess. If you're new, she'll rub on your legs, purr like crazy and then randomly hiss at you. She also likes to hang out on top of the shower doors and has dropped into the full bathtub (and onto my head). She's sweet, but a few ants shy of a picnic. My girls run my life and I'm happy to have it that way. ^_^ |

Sorry, but you aren't just a worry wart. The FDA is seriously underfunded and they don't have enough inspectors to catch all of this stuff. They also don't have the best record in the world of enforcing it. A little healthy paranoia sounds like a good idea to me.
It's a pain in the butt, but if you can get more food locally via farmers' markets and whatnot, it might give you more peace of mind, not to mention the warm fuzzies of being more environmentally sound. |

I enjoy eating socially. Otherwise, I've found, it's just food. I'm still a sucker for sweets, of course but if I'm eating alone, I just eat and finish with very little relish. When I have people over, though, dinner can last for hours and I love cooking. I haven't been counting my calories lately (fell off the bandwagon about a year ago when I was moving every 2 months or so) but I'm going to start soon. Besides, it's peaches and nectarine season! Speaking of which... |

And you just named the reason I flatly refuse to live on the ground floor. I live alone and am paranoid. But maybe they thought someone they knew lived there? It's possible. I know I've knocked on the wrong door before. SOooo embarassing. Not to sound creepy, but whereabouts in the Bay are you? I'm in Alameda and I'm in desperate need of local friends. (Yes, I'm sad, I'm searching online for people to hang out with) |

Screw Sketchers. My sis, who works full time at Starbucks and has for several years now, has Danskos and her feet thank her for it. They're expensive, yes, but they have excelent support and padding. I haven't ever worked there, but here's what she's said: 1) SMILE! This is a huge one. You're there to be charming and friendly, that's what they pay you for. 2) Grey is not black, neither is navy blue. Faded black won't cut it, either. (Dress code is something her minions don't always get, for some reason). Today's tidbit: Green is not a natural hair color. Neither is crimson. Her quote? "I'd have fired you, but ASMs don't have any say." Top Reason to get your Black Apron certifcation? You get a black apron instead of Starbucks Green. The logo on starbucks gift cards can be cut out to make a spiffy tie-tack. And always float the shot in a caramel macchiatto. That's how it's supposed to be made (this is her pet peeve). Not terribly helpful, I'm afraid, but then, few ever escape the Cult of Starbucks, so I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to learn. |

lysistrata, I'm glad you brought up the differing ages of consent. Some people are very mature at 16 and some are still horribly immature at 30. Ideally nobody would be sexually active until they were ready, but that is not always the case. When I was in high school, a friend of mine just up and vanished. It turned out that she had started home school because she was pregnant. The guy was older than her (don't know by how much) and she was 16 at the time (not legal in my state). Things have worked out well, though. I'd never seen her so calm and happy as just after her baby was born and now, nearly a decade later, they are still happily married. The law does its best, but sometimes it can be flawed. The situation Fallingstars brought up does NOT sound good, though. I hate seeing good people with losers, really I do. |

I'm joining! Not sure how often I'll check in, as I'm kinda bad about logging into CC, but for now, my goal is to run the Nike Women's Marathon in October in San Francisco. (Yes, I know, I'm going to kill myself). Today I ran for about 15 minutes before I paused, stretched and continued to run for a total of 2 miles. Today also marks the first time I've managed to run 2 times in a week. I'm so happy! |

Hate to break it to you, but little dogs can live to near or past 20 years.
No advice, other than try and get her to like you. Have you tried carrying treats around? Maybe if she associates you with food/good things, she won't freak so much. |

| Hey, a friend of mine sent me this <a href="http://www.zafu.com/"> link</a> ; a while back. He said one of his co-workers swears by them. So I gave it a try and they suggested a huge range of things for me, from $20 jeans to $200. It's pretty cool. I didn't need to buy pants at the time, so I didn't buy to check it out, but it might help point you in the right direction. | |||

Ugh, those horrible pouffy dresses are so "in" this season. They are not, in my opinion, flattering on ANYONE, even too-thin models. They make everyone look pregnant. Anything refered to as a "tent" dress cannot be good. Wrap dresses are good, flat front pants are good, too. I'm a huge fan of Land's End's button down shirts, as they fit me very well and make me look like I have a figure instead of being chubby. Go for clothes that skim, not cling. And yes, Ann Taylor in general ROCKS! Edit: to anyone looking to make links small, click on the little button second from the right in the posting box, paste in your link, highlight the word you want linked and hit "ok." It'll make those nifty links, like this. Or you can type {a href=www.thisisalink} pretty dress! {/a} and it shows up with "pretty dress!" as your link. Replace {} with <>, though. |

| The Lounge | Consolidate debts or not, any advice, prefferably from rich people... | May 18 2007 00:27 (UTC) |

What I was told/read is this: pay off the debt with the largest interest rate first while still paying the minimums on the others. DO NOT consolidate with a loan since they can't take your house if you have credit card debt but they can with an equity loan. Sure the interest rate is lower, but is the risk really worth it?
Definately call your credit company and see if they'll lower your interest rate. It worked for me. |

Cardio is any exersise that uses the large muscles in your body. I was told by my doctor years ago that swimming is not cardio because it uses the "small" muscles in your arms and back, rather than the large ones. Most, if not all, cardio uses your legs and butt.
Pilates, from what I understand, would not be cardio. I've never done it though, so I don't know for sure. |

Thank you, ohjanet! I'm fitter than I've ever been but still "overweight." I'm just built that way. I put on weight very easily and it's a pain in the butt to get it off again. Even counting calories and running an hour a day barely budged my weight, so don't look down your nose at your instructor.
Also, Nightc1, I disagree completely with your theory that people can tell the difference between "being thin and being rail/bone thin." If they could, the ridiculous body ideals we currently hold wouldn't be so strong. Those models we all want to be? Yeah, most of them are anorexic or bulemic. To reiterate, thin =/= fit or healthy. Nor does painfully thin necessarily mean unfit. Some people just can't put on weight, just as others can't lose it. (By "can't" I mean "through reasonable means." Tons of medications or drugs or weight-gainers don't count) |
