1.  What is your zodiac sign? Dog! and also Aries.

2.  Have you ever won a substantial prize or amount of money? Only a scholarship.

3.  Toilet paper over the roll or under the roll?  Usually over, but now one of my cats likes to play with it, so under it goes

4.  Do you make your bed in the morning?  Umm, I used to...

5.  What did you wear to your graduation? (High school, college, doesn't matter!)  For HS, I wore a black sundress with fringe on the bottom that I have never worn again (horrible dress, really) and for college, I wore a white linen skirt with pale green wallpapery print on it, a moss green tanktop and "natural" canvas heels.  I normally hate skirts, but I still adore that one.

6.  Do you wish on falling stars? Of course! It can't hurt to ask.

7.  What is your favourite Elvis song, if any? Don't really like Elvis

8.  Have you ever gotten drunk?  If so, where were you the first time?  (If you remember...LOL) My freshman year, in the dorms.  I blame this for my utter hatred of rum.

9.  If you could invite any TV/movie star over for dinner, who would it be and what would you cook them?  I'm with whoever said Alton Brown

10.  Do you have any noticeable scars?  Yup. One on my wrist where I got hit by an idiot on a bicycle.  One on my left shin where I hit a rock (through a wetsuit even!) after falling overboard while rafting on the American River and one on my right upper arm where my cat kicked me.  I was holding her like a baby (which she hates, but tolerates) and she met my parents' (then) teeny tiny puppy.  She freaked and ran, getting me with her back claws in the process.  Oh yeah, and one on my left pinky finger, where a friend's ring got caught.  We were playing that game where you hold hands and spin around as fast as you can.

It IS a good word.  Very handy.

Do you watch Fargate, too?  Ok, Stargate, but come ON!  When they added Ben Browder and ... Uh, Vala?  Seeing Erin Sung (Sp?) as Vala just blows my mind.  He pretty much plays the same character, but she is TOTALLY different.  It's so cool.

*looks around* Dang, I'm glad I didn't say this in any of the other threads.  I look like a total nerd. ~_^

Wow, "hearing" American Pie brings back HS memories (for the record, I'm only 24, but I hated pop music).

I have vivid memories of singing and dancing to Under the Sea with my twin and our best friend in the family room between the blue couch and the blue armoir (did I spell that righ) that held the TV and Dad's CD player.  I still love singing along when I hear any Disney soundtrack.

Ummm... Let me look.  It's called Vegetables by James Peterson (He gets no points for creativity on the title!)  Here's an Amazon link, but I'd try Alibris first.  They're a used book site and I've had a lot of luck finding books for a LOT cheaper there.  And it's a type of recyling, if you think about it.

I don't have mine with me at the moment.  Maybe I can have my friends bring it to me when they come visit.  It's a good season for Farmer's Market veggies!

April, it sounds like you only drink wine on the weekends, which means to me that you're drinking with friends.  If that's the case, volunteer to be DD.  Then you have motivation to not drink and everyone gets a safe ride home.  I tried the "I'll only have one" thing, but to quote a friend "After one drink, another one always sounds good!"  They lower your inhibitions in every way, after all.  If you can't give it up, try just having the last half glass that's in the bottle.  Then there isn't any more for you to have.

My best way to avoid food binges is to be doing something.  I always eat when I'm bored, not because I'm hungry but because it's something to do.  I know it, so I keep busy, lots of plans and I keep junk food out of the apartment.  I keep some expensive chocolate and some really good ice cream around and that's it.  I don't want to blow those on a wild binge, they're too good!  I worked on getting my eating habits in my control before I decided to start changing them and figuring out what triggers your binges is the key.

Gaining 10lbs in 4 days sounds like a weight fluxuation rather than actual weight gain (To gain 10lbs of fat, you'd have to eat 35,000 extra calories!).  Weigh yourself at the same time of day as often as you want, I do it every day, and look at the overall trend.  Weight will fluxuate from day to day.  On the other hand Molly has a point.  You are the only one who can do this.  We'll be here cheering you on, though!

shdorydr, I go to bed at 9 so I can get 8 hours.  I'm a night owl, so if I stay up until I'm tired, it'll be about midnight or later but then I'm a raving b**ch the next day and I feel awful.  Minimum, I need 8 hours.  Given a choice, I like 9.  I'm functional on 3, but not 6 and 3 hits me hard later.  I never used to have trouble making myself go to sleep.

Nymo, I'll try your suggestion.  Here's hoping the gym isn't packed.

If you don't know what to do with a new vegetable, try foodtv.com, it's the Food Network's website and it's got tons of recipies.  I also bought a cookbook dedicated specifically to vegetables.  It lists what they are, when to buy them (like what season), how to tell if they're ready and gives recipies that include the veggie.  Thanks to it, I've discovered I have a taste for grilled asparagus and fennel and have a much faster way to cook artichokes (which if you've never had them, you really should.  They're delicious!)  Remember, too, that if you don't like the veggie cooked one way you might like it cooked another.  I despise steamed broccoli and cauliflower but I love them stir fried or roasted.  And I am totally with you on the onions.  I like mine cooked to DEATH.

For salads, try adding more stuff to them.  I like my spinach with goat cheese (100cal/oz, but I only use half an ounce, since it really is a lot) and raspberry dressing.  Or put manarin oranges in with an Asian inspired dressing on some kind of leaf lettuce.  I find raisins taste really really good on a salad with ranch but I try to stick to a small amount of ranch and just dip my lettuce into it so I don't get too much fat from it.

I have had limited success with the whole "retraining my tastebuds" thing.  I still dislike tomatos, but if they're in or on something salty, I'll eat them.  Or if they're dried.  I don't like bitter greens, but I'm learning to deal.  When I went away to school, I learned to love onions, mushrooms, zuchini, squash, asparagus (which I'd never had before), cauliflower and broccoli.  I found that I'm a visual person.  If it looks pretty/delicious, then I'll eat it, even if I don't like it all that much.  That's how I'm learning to deal with bitter greens.  Just keep trying things.  You'll find stuff you like.

Nope, don't pause in the weight training.  To bulk up, you'd need to be lifting HEAVY weights (like 80% of your max) and I seriously doubt you're doing that.  I was doing 2 hours a week of interval training with 12lb hand weights and I didn't bulk up at all, but I did get a lot of muscle tone, which helped things fit better.

You can do it!

Liablity, I'd just tell people, "I'm trying to watch my calories and for me, it's very important to stay with what I have planned for the day.  I know you mean well, but please stop asking me to try new things.  After all, 'I can resist anything except temptation'!"  Something like that shouldn't be taken amiss and eventually people will get the idea and stop offering, maybe.

And congrats!  I'd never be able to deal with that as well as you have.  Especially since I'm finding I have a terrible weakness for good dark chocolate!

I have to say, ix has the most responsible idea.  I want to add that you should totally blow at least 10% of it (It's an idea I got off of MSN money, blow 10% of any windfall money you get and do something responsible with the res).  My money would go straight to shoes, most likely, or possibly some books and DVDs that I've been wanting.  But then, I'm a shoe whore and thus terribly predictable.

Spas are always nice.  I love getting massages (sorry ix, not everyone is lucky enough to have a SO who's a good masseuse!) and manicures.  I can do my own feet, but I have trouble doing my hands.

Getting your hair and makeup done would also be fun.  Find a place that will show you how to do whatever it is they do so that you can look tres fab all the time, if you are into that.  I always flake out and go back to braid or ponytail within a week, but a good haircut is indispensible.

Treadmill sounds also like a good idea, but you have to concider if you have a place for it and if you'll use it.  You don't want an expensive coat rack!  It sounds like you're disiplined, though, so it shoudn't be a problem.

Taking a trip also sounds like a cool idea, if you're willing to go alone or if you have someone who can afford to go with you.  Going alone isn't as scary as it sounds, by the way.  Paris is amazing, but don't shop for clothing there.  All the clothes are cut to fit anorexics with tiny bone structures.

Most of all, though, have fun with it!  You have sure earned it!

I wish I could remember what my folks used!  Ask the folks who are installing the countertop, they'll most likely have some suggestions.  I know you're not supposed to use ammonia on them since my folks switched dish soaps because of it.  Good luck!

My folks took their dog to "puppy playschool" and it worked out well.  He's very social with people and dogs (and my cats, but they do NOT want to play) and isn't skittish at all.  He goes everywhere with them, which I think is a bit excessive, but hey, he's part of the family and no one seems to mind much.

Don't worry too much about the pit bull rep.  I used to walk dogs for the vet hospital near my school and they had a few (So sad!).  They were really good with people but not so much with other animals but if you begin socializing early, it won't be a problem.  What other breeds are in the mix, do you know?

Nyer... splenda creeps me out.  They take some part of the molecule and replace it with  chlorine molecule.  Not that nutrasweet is any better but the only thing I have with that is the Diet Coke, and that's because I like it, not because of the calories.

Baby and Drea, be careful of the diet mixers.  MSN recently had an article about them saying that they got you drunker faster, probably because there aren't any other calories there to cushion the blow, so to speak.  Not like I could give up drinking, either, when I go out.  I'm 24, but I've only recently gotten into the going out thing.  My weaknesses are lemondrop martinis and gin and tonic, neither one of which even begins to classify as diet friendly, so I usually volunteer to be DD.

My screenname doesn't mean all that much.  Tiamat is a dragon from a creation myth.  She symbolized Chaos and was killed by her grandson who turned her corpse into the heavens and the earth.  When I first picked a screenname, I was totally enamoured of dragons.  I added "_the_red" because I hate screennames with tons of numbers after them and because I like red.  It's a good color.

This has been my screenname for almost 7 years now over various forums and chat rooms.  People sometimes call me Tia, Red or Carmine (it's a shade of red that I used as an alternate nick in one of my old IRC haunts)

*Squee!* Katamari Damacy is sooooo fun!  I can kill hours and hours playing that game.  I need to buy a PS2 so that I can have my own copy.

I also think I should mention (since someone referenced the comic on the first page of this post) that I have two cats.  The older one is so Eben and the younger one is definately Snooch.

There's no way I want to give up diet coke.  I'm trying to cut down, but I like it and I like the caffiene jolt.  So I try for 2 or fewer cans a day.

Definately try phasing it out, or just cutting back, if you really want to, but there really isn't a reason to.  Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't dehydrate you to drink cafeinated things even if it isn't as good as water.

I keep trying to get my folks to get alpacas but they won't.  Now they have Cooper, and he's about as big and woolly as one, so I guess I can't keep on them anymore.  (Cooper is our "fuzzy little brother" as my twin calls him.  He's a goldendoodle and is about 90lbs of friendly fluffy dog)

If you feel lazy, you can get goat cheese from Trader Joes, for sure, and probably also at the grocery store.  Watch out for that nasty brown stuff, though.  My family loves it but I hate it.  I like the crumbly sorta salty goat cheese.

Saro:  You've GOT to be joking.  I haven't had a computer with a floppy drive in nearly 6 years!  USB keys are dirt cheap right now and CDs can be had for pennies.  I really worry about some people.  And why text searchable .pdf?  I hate PDF files.
