Self disapline? You make me ashamed of myself. I slip up day after day so I don't gain weight but I moan that I'm unable to lose.....and I know I cheat. I hear the little voice in my head. I never cheat without being completely aware that I'm doing it.

You've hit a bullseye with your posting here today and I really don't like how I feel after reading it.

Guess I better develope some 'self disapline' of my own......

Thank you for the honesty. I hear you and I'm very pleased that you were able to find yourself and begin to move in a new and fun direction.  Keep it up........you inspire others to look head on at the truth of what your saying.

Okay I joined this minutes after it was posted in the other forum but I guess when it was moved I was dropped? Is it too late for me to still take part? I've been working toward it all along so I'm not a late starter at least. :)

I'm 180 right now.
Weight Loss eating back cals v. setting activity level Jun 02 2007

CC gives a workout calorie burn of about 100 calories more than the site I've always used to calculate.  I'd rather count my exercise calories low than too high because I have enough trouble loosing weight. I finally decided, for me, it's better to just ignore the calories from exercise and concentrate on eating about 12 to 1400 calories a day and then I lose a little each week.
Weight Loss Snacks for a long drive... Jun 01 2007

We have a different approach to this.  We made a "no food in the car" rule about 20 years ago and even our children knew we would be stopping only for meals and for exercise but no food in the car. (I always lose weight on holidays......I love it!!) :)

I have to ask how far and how long you walk to burn 600 calories. I can't imagine being able to have the time or the energy to manage that. (hard to think you'd burn 600 calories in an hour of cardio too.)

As I said most people over estimate the calories burned in exercise...just ignore your exercise except to use it for getting in shape and eat the 1200 to 1400 calories a day for weight loss.

You will generally eat a couple hundred more calories than you've counted and so if you ignore the exercise it will most days break even for you.

I also disagree with the "eating back calories" ..........as you said since you've been doing this you haven't lost weight!

Almost everyone over estimates the calories they burn in exercise and under estimate the calories they've eaten........not a good combination at all for weight loss.

If you go back to eating 1200 to 1400 calories a day and don't calculate your exercise into the mix you'll begin to lose weight again (although I don't see you needing to lose much weight at all.)

I think the "eat back" theory is what kills most diets and prevents weight loss.

It's been my experience that when you eat such a low calorie intake it's not so much that your body slows down and you stop loosing as it is that your body turns on you and you end up binging.

I know people who deny that they've had a binge but the honest ones admit that it all just built until they fell with a huge splat before they could regain control again.

If you eat a little more and lose more gently your body will accept it and not turn on you.

I'll join this one. Even if I don't lose the full 10 lbs anything I can lose I'll take gladly!!

I have a food plan going right now and I'll just stay with it (I only started it a week ago) I walk most days/garden a lot and will have my bike out as often as possible (weather permitting)

Most people will overestimate the amount of calories they burn exercising and under estimate the number of calories they've eating so it's often best to try to keep a food journal and ignore the calories burnt in exercise.

If you take your weight (your weight x 11 = ???? subtract 500 =???) and the answer will be the number of calories you need in a day in order to lose 1 lb a week.   It will leave you never feeling hungry and losing 52 lbs a year. Who could ask for better than that?

Partly it depends on your height/build/weight whether 1300 calories is too much or too little.

I'm 5'5" and 180 lbs so I need (180 x 11 = 1980 - 500 = 1480) calories to lose 1 lb a week.  I try to keep it at about 1400 calories right now and when I lose weight I'll have to draw it in until I hope at 1200 calories a  day I'll continue to lose to my target.

Hang in your going to see the weight slowly come down.....in spurts and starts you'll win this battle

Sugars and bread. I never thought I could live without bread and had no idea what I would eat to feel full.  However, now it's been over a week, I sleep like a log for the first time in years and I find I'm doing just fine.......eating lots of fruit and fish and veggies. It's amazing to me that it's not a problem and I cannot yet believe that a few slices of bread was what kept me awake at night. How can that be?
Weight Loss Social situations and dieting May 29 2007

duskpoo.......honestly the best answer for so many situations is to be ill.  You just have an upset tummy and your sorry but you really cannot trust yourself to eat. If they would excuse you your sure if you just sip away on this (whatever) or nibble on veggies you'll be able to keep your tummy under control.

I think the very worst thing you can do is say your on a diet. No one reacts well to that news and they either scoff or try to ambush you but if your tummy is upset no one will ever bother you.

I do wish you luck.......and I'd tuck a couple things into my bag to eat that will keep you from becoming too hungry.

It sounds to me like your doing everything right but your too demanding. Your body won't lose 3 lbs a week every week no matter what you do. Your body will stall and refuse to lose that amount.

I was weight recorder when I belonged to TOPS and I could always tell you what members would gain or not lose the following week by how much they lost in the past week.  If you lose a lot your body just rebels and refuses to go down farther......let up a wee bit.

If you relax and just keep doing the right thing one day you'll see a 2 lb drop again just out of the blue.  I think the reason you hit this stall out so quickly is because you pushed too hard. The weight didn't come on at 3 lbs a week and it will not go off at that rate.

Try to think that if you only lose 1 lb a week you will be down 52 lbs in a year so if you relax your 40 lbs will be gone by sometime just after xmas and you'll feel grand for next spring.  Keep up the good healthy eating and exercise but relax and don't ask so much of your poor body.
