| The Lounge | Fred Phelps and his Scumbag Hate Church to Protest Heath Ledger's Funeral | Jan 24 2008 23:12 (UTC) |

I went to school at West Virginia Wesleyan College, which is 10 minutes from Sago mine. When the 12 miners died the memorial service was at my school's chapel, and guess who was there protesting? Members of the Westboro Baptist Church. I'd seen pictures and read articales about them, but it was completely different actually seeing them protest. They had signs that said the most hateful things. A large group of students gathered to watch them, which we planned. We all stood around them and sang "Country Roads so the people going to the memorial service wouldn't have to see or hear them. We wanted to do a counter protest, but were told that the families of the miners wanted a peaceful day. And we also learned that the group makes most of its money by suing people that interfere with their protests. After all, they have the right to do it, unfortunately. They not only sue people that interfere, but sue town police departments for not protecting them and such. Anyway, they are positively ridiculous, and seeing them actually saying the things they do was the most surreal experience of my life. I can't believe there are people who devote their lives to hating others. Has anyone else seen them "in action?" |

I stopped using the pill when I broke up with my long-term boyfriend. That was more than a year ago and my periods still aren't back to normal. My doctor told me that even though the hormones are out of my system by body hasn't adjusted yet and it takes a while. I was on the pill for 3 years. When I stopped using it I had one normal period, then didn't get it for 4 months. Now it's anywhere from 3-7 weeks between periods. A lot of my friends and family who went off the pill had the same problem. The pill is really convenient when you're on it, but I would never go back on it because it messes up your normal body functions. I've never had a problem with just condoms, before I started using the pill or after I stopped. But you have to be smart about what you're doing, and very careful. |

| Weight Loss | HELP! 2 very different #s of calories according to CC! | Jan 24 2008 22:08 (UTC) |

If you look up "BMR calculator" you'll find a few different sites that can help you. I would suggest http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ It calculates your BMR and also has a link to find out your daily calories needs based on your activity level. For a sedentary lifestyle multiply your BMR by 1.2. That will give you the amount of calories you need to maintain your current weight with no exercise. You can also find a suggested amount of calories in order to lose weight on the site. |

I know you posted this a while ago, but I'm new to the site and just found it. I majored in philosophy and psychology. I only majored in philosophy becasue I loved it so much I thought it should be a major since I planned on taking all the classes. There isn't much to do with a philosophy degree other than teach, write, or go to law school. Luckily, though, it's a really good subject to have a background in, even if you don't use it as a primary job. I'm going to go to grad school and get my Ph D in psychology, then go back for a Ph D in philosophy. I want to work in psychology for a while (10-15 years maybe) then find a teaching job at a liberal arts college teaching both psychology and philosophy. Maybe we can team up and write a book that will change the world! Of course, you can also do tons of other things... Google "famous philosophy majors." You'd be surprised who's on the lists! |

I also had a boyfriend that didn't seem to care about my weight, which didn't really bother me until I decided I wanted to lose some. He showed little interest when I told him that I wanted to pay more attention to what I was eating, and scoffed at some of the little things I was doing to cut a few calories here and there. I didn't stick with it very long. Looking back, I wished I'd told him how his teasing made me feel. It wasn't a huge deal, but a little support would've been nice. Let your boyfriend now that you're not looking for a hyper cheerleader or anything, but that support and some encouragement are important to you. And I also used to eat just for something to do. When I feel like eating something even though I'm not hungry at all, I drink a large glass of water slowly and then find something else to do. Read, straighten up, a crossword puzzle, anything. Once I'm into that I don't think about eating. Now I'm trying to work on the amount I eat at meal times. I don't gorge or anything, but my family has always had BIG meals. I decided to get serious about cutting calories, and just signed up here today! |

After about 2 weeks with Winsor pilates I felt a lot better and slimmed down a little. I would suggest getting a few different DVDs because it didn't take long for my body to get used to the routine. When I did pilates I rotated my DVDs every few weeks. |
