Weight Loss Anyone wanna lose 10 lbs with me? Nov 25 2010

Well, I don't really know how much i weigh (again) but after I ran those 10 miles (I am dead!) had a starbucks coffee, egg sandwich, bottle of water, two apples, plus half a banana, I was at 158.5, so I'm hoping that 159 yesterday holds!  But today is thanksgiving, so although I plan on enjoying myself, CC also claims I will burn 2880 calories today, and I've eaten about 450 of those, so I figure another 1500 will be perfect for thanksgiving dinner, wine, pie, and appetizers.

sylphera- thanks for the concern, but one of the reasons that I want to lose weight is because I gained quite a bit after my eligibility as a college athlete was used up, so I'm pretty athletic to begin with.  Plus, working out is my relaxation time.  :-) I've gotten into a good balance, where I can eat 1600-2000(max) calories as long as I work out about an hour a day.  What part of germany are you from?  I minored in German, and was born there, although to american citizens who moved shortly thereaftter. :-)

So, I'm at my parent's house for the week, and the only scale is in their bathroom....!  Gah!  That means that although I usually weigh myself every morning upon waking I don't get to do that this week because my dad sleeps a lot later than I do.  I'm hoping that I can get in there tomorrow, or at least Friday, but I don't know.  My last weight/beginning weight on this challenge was 162, but I'm pretty sure I'm down from that, I just have no idea how far...  I'm sticking to a pretty good regime over here though, because my mom is watching what she eats as well, and I'm just making sure I workout every day.

So how are you guys doing? Any good strategies for thanksgiving? My plan is to do a 10 mile running race on Thanksgiving morning, therefore, allowing me to eat lots of turkey!  Also, I'm going to load up on the healthy things, i.e. white meat, salad, green beans, yams, limit the bread and mashed potatoes, and then have one slice of pie.  Considering I'm planning on my first meal after the 10 mile run, and then just thanksgiving, I think I'll still have a deficit, even if I eat about 1800 calories for the day.

darkrosemoon- isn't 1200 a little low if you're working out 60 minutes a day?

lcu123- just one bit at a time is good!  Keep increasing it and you'll get there!

And to answer your original question, if I can get to be 140 by my sister's wedding (mid february) I will be more than happy!  I ate a lot of crap over the weekend (and I mean a lot... my stomach hated me, and still does...) and I might be more like 159 or so... anyway, if I can get down to 150, and then I'll have close to two months to get down to 140.  I think if I can just keep it going, I'll do fine... plus, I'll be at home-home for a month, and my mom makes good, healthy meals, I won't be drinking more than 2 drinks at any given time period (except for thanksgiving, christmas day, and new years) and I'll have plenty of time to workout.  That month should be a good month :-)  And finally, my overall goal before I go to gradschool/job (haven't decided yet) is to be around 130.  All of these are subject to change though...

Hey,

so a lot of people have been complaining about the whole drinking thing, so I just thought that I would give you my strategy into the whole "weekend/partying thing"  I have been successful at losing about 10 pounds since the summer, and I have been going out on weekends.

So, first of all, if I am going to be drinking, I work out that day, and the next day, for about an hour, maybe hour and a half.  Second, I typically will have two large meals instead of 3 smaller ones plus snacks.  For example, I'll have a 600 calorie breakfast, then maybe a normal dinner (400 calories?) and then I'll have 600 for drinks.... I mean, that's 6 mike's hard light lemonades or 6 beers, which is definitely enough if you really have only eaten 1000 calories for the day. However, that's based on a 1600 calorie diet, which is perfectly fine if you workout.  I also keep bags of light movie theater butter popcorn (225 calories for the entire big bag) so that if I come home and really want drunk food, I have a good, 200 calorie option instead of pizza, etc.

What are your strategies?

hey- I would also like to lose 10 pounds by christmas, if possible.  I am 22, in college as well, and as such, I think we face a lot of the same issues (i.e. going out, stress from finals, etc)

lcu123- we are TWINS! I am literally 162 and 5'6" as well, in addition to 22 years old!

Anyway my lowest since high school was 148, and my sister's wedding is in February.  I would really love to be around 140 for her wedding.  Anyway, I also kind of lied on my measurements in order to account for my weight loss plans, which I know... is a bad idea.  However, I started off with 37-33-43 for bust-waist-hips, and the dress size I ordered has measurements for 37-29-41.... somehow, I am now 38-31-41, so getting there.  I've lost almost 10 pounds since then, so I think if I lose another 10 by christmas, I should have the right measurements...

look at the ingredients... If its enriched white flour with some whole wheat flour, then its true.  If its 100% whole wheat flour, then its not.

Weight Loss Stop binge eating? What to do afterwards? And how to get back on track and prevent any excessive weight gain. Aug 15 2010

I second what antibinge said, having some issues with binging myself.  I notice that I don't do it when I'm around people (one reason that I'm glad I'm living with friends this year instead of just people I know... I don't really care what the other ones think, I can hide in my room and eat as much as I want.  However, when someone I know and care about sees that behavior, I know I need to justify and explain, which is akward and worth avoiding)

I also know that on days when I'm really low on calories, I'd better bump it up to maintenance instead of being 700-900 under if I feel a binge coming on (which essentially is a craving for me to feel that full feeling in my stomach)

The last thing I'd like to add is that I have trigger foods or situations.  For example, if I've had a couple of drinks, I'm much more likely to just eat and eat and eat, mostly because I don't care for that moment.  Then the next day I'm like "why no? I ruined it last night!" So try not to have the all-or-nothing mentality.  Also, I find it really hard to have 2 of something... 1 I can handle and fit in, but if I've had two things which were treats and bad for me then I go crazy! So for little trigger things like that, have some self control/don't put yourself in a position.

Really though, you have to determine what will work for you.  You need to see the pattern before you can attack it and change it.

Weight Loss Lossing weight by smoking :( Aug 03 2010

I've heard the same thing happen to others, but it really still amounts to calories in vs. out.  I've heard that smoking is an appetite suppressant.  As you quit, try chewing gum or something like that, which will keep your mouth occupied.  The weight lost is by no means healthier than smoking!

I know that you have some concerns, but remember overall health and being fit.  Neither one can be that great while you smoke.  Good luck!

I don't think that's its comparable to running for an hour or anything, but its gotta be better than sitting around doing nothing... I'd maybe count it as half the calories it says you burn... but I don't know for sure.  Its made me sweat in the past though :-) It can't be bad for you!

This is reason number one that I don't like to talk to others about my own weight loss.  I hope that you can move past it! Chin up!

I typically split it up into snacks and meals... eat breakfast ~300 cal (oatmeal, cereal, eggs, whatever, as long as its about 300), 100 cal snack (apple, other fruit, veggies, whatever), lunch ~400 cal, another 100 cal snack, dinner ~500, and 100 cal snack/dessert.

That's 1400 calories, and I typically aim for 1550, so I've got some wiggle room, but that's what I do.  Lots of whole grains, fruits, veggies, lean meats... try looking up volumetrics, cause that's what I think americanrobby was talking about.

I think 4 oz is how big the cup is.  I've found that number on the bottom of one of their cups before.  Anyway, I'd maybe squish it down one time or something, and check out how much extra you think you've got.  Then estimate from there! Either way, its still a pretty good calorie deal!

Weight Loss Losing weight too fast? Jul 27 2010

you typically lose more the first week or so, just due to losing water weight.  Especially when you drink more water, your body tends to want to hold onto that water a little less, because it knows you will give it more shortly.  While that can explain the first maybe 5-7 pounds, the rest is probably actual body weight.  I'd say you'll want to slow down a little because you don't want to lose muscle, just fat, right?

Use the tools and make sure that you don't exceed your burn by 1000 calories

I would agree that since you are working, you should be exempt from the "no outside food" policy.  If you really run into a problem, start making up health lies, such as "oh, I can't eat anything there because I have high cholesteral, I eat kosher, I'm vegan" anything will do, as long as it definitely means "no" on their food.

so, it'll be easier to lose that 40 pounds if you build muscle (which essentially burns more calories for you, which is nice) along the way.  I just started doing P90X, and I like it a lot.  I sweat like crazy at the end of the workout and am probably sore for two days afterwards.  I haven't been following the program, just using it for my weight lifting workouts.  I really like it though, and you can get away doing everything with either some resistance bands which are cheap, or some jugs of water in place of weights (at least when you're starting out)

Well, I'm kind of having trouble with the whole "losing weight" thing.  I used to lose rather quickly on about 1800 cal/day (maintained on about 2200-2300), but I was working out between 15-20 hours/week as a DI athlete.  Now I maintain on about 1800, and need to lose!  So I'm working out more diligently and eating less.  I'm doing P90X for weight training and sometimes have a slim-fast shake for dinner (good recovery drink after workout), then a snack later on.  I'm trying to be between 1400-1600 calories, depending on how hungry I am...

Anyway, hopefully my body kicks it into gear!

how many calories were you guys eating, and what kind of workouts were you doing?  I'm not quite sure what is "normal" since I've been doing the whole swim thing so long...!

Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
