"I didn't even break a sweat weeding." was a figure of speech, a bit of sarcasim if you will. Maybe it came across as me being ignorant. I know quite a bit about burning calories. And maybe, it's for the simple fact that I wear a heart monitor every once in awhile to count how many calories I burn in a day, so I'm not out there "guessing" and in result hurting my body. I've been through too much to guess. I'm very scientific, and I have a lot of little tools that help me. I just think that logging down everything is a little too much, and a lot of guess work. In the long run it really only hurts me, until you actually know how much your burning will the results be truely defined. These online tools aren't scientific at all, they're ball parks for everyone. But if what your doing works, then great (truely do mean this). I'll stick to my ways, I have lost weight and I feel amazing. 32lbs in total. I guess I can say that I'm not really here to use the burn meter, more for the calorie counter (which isn't all that reliable either *sighs*), and to talk to people. Granted, I am no doctor. I just thought that is was misleading because these online "tools" are really just guesses. I'm more for listening to your body, and using actual physical tools to measure your body's progress. Not looking up on different sites and trying to "guess" how much my body is really burning. Everybody is different. And that's okay. |

Sorry cookk, but I don't think I'm going to be logging down 3 hours of weeding. Because that's not the only thing I did today. I walked, A LOT, the weeding, the lift of plants, and all sorts of things. I'm pretty sure that my calorie out put would SKY rocket to numbers that would be out of this world by the stuff I'm doing all day long. It just seems unreal. Now working out, or really putting your back into something, I'll count. I didn't even break a sweat weeding. I was sitting on my butt. I think your advise is a little misleading. People are going to be counting calorie for chewing gum. Maybe it works for you. But I'm pretty sure if I started counting sitting on my butt as an activity, and all these other things I do all day long, and then started eating more because I was "burning" more, I would do nothing but gain lots of weight for not really paying attention to what was going on. My original post was just for a good laugh. Come on, 1,000 cal for weeding for 3 hours? Then how come everyone that works in an office is over weight, I mean their sitting on their butts, and put in about 8 hours. Shouldn't they be burning 300 cal/s an hour? Sorry but your comment really upset me, it's misleading for others out there who are just starting this. |

Scoutie, that actually sounds really good, and healthy. Thanks! I'm gonna try it soon (I'm going shopping in a few day, can't do it every day since I live about 90 minutes away from a grocery store). I'll post back and tell ya if I like it. |

Well I'm starting to lift weights, and I'm wanna get up there. I eat chicken, I eat nuts, not so much legumes (kinda hard changing your diet in a household that doesn't support you...so I'm working with what I got.) I'm shooting for about 70g a day. And one can of tuna has 32.5......nothing besides eggs can really give me a boost. And I'm already eating that stuff...oh and I can't eat gluten....so no bread or pasta..... |

Just thought I'd l'd let everyone know that that was a bad day for me. I had just gotten back from a 2 week vacation, and I jumped right into working. I did hard labor all day, and didn't really account for the calories. It just blew right past me. Plus the fact that someone wanted all the windows open on a 30 degree day, totally nuts! Soooooo, not enough calories for the day......working over time on a body that just rested......and then a heatless home all just got to me. I'm still a little cold now, but nothing I can't handle or cure with a good sweater in about 15 minutes! THANKS EVERYONE!!!
ps. This is totally off topic and I might even post it somewhere else, but how many calories do you think 4-8 hours of manual labor is worth? Raking, hoeing, pulling weeds, moving tree trunks, hauling dirt, building fences. It's all rather random. Breaks are taken, of course. It's in general, throughout the day. Thanks. |

My mother has hypothyroidism, so I went in about 2 maybe 3 months ago and had a lot of labs worked up. My blood is fine, and so is my thyroid. Although, I don't know if this has to do with me geting cold, I was told I have orthostatic hypotention ( I was once hit in the arm and fainted from it. I get light headed getting up, all the time) "Orthostatic hypotension (also known as postural hypotension[1], and, colloquially, as head rush or a dizzy spell) is a form of hypotension in which there is a sudden (less than 3 minutes) fall in blood pressure, typically greater than 20/10 mm Hg,[2] that occurs when a person assumes a standing position, usually after a prolonged period of rest" (wikipedia.org) I don't know if it affects my being cold or not. I've never read anything about being cold with Orthohypo. The doctors told me (I was probably 11 or so when this happened) to just becareful standing up, and sent me on my merry way. Maybe it is the weightloss. So it will take a year for my body to feel warm again?? Good thing I have a lot of sweaters and an awesome blanket! |

I haven't been on this diet for too long. Maybe a month. I didn't lose all 27 lbs by this diet though. I just started out by eating less junk food. Then I started to eat more vegetables. Then I started to cut out sugar. Then I increased my fruits. This has been a work in progress for about 8 months now. Just slowly giving up my vices one by one, and eating healthy things. Now what I listed as eating food is in general. I mean it isn't always yogurt. I generally eat a smaller breakfast because if I don't I feel sick and sluggish if the meal is too big. And oatmeal only makes me really hungry in about an hour. Sometimes it's an omlette. And as far as red meat.....how do I put this? In the house that I live red meat is a staple for EVERY SINGLE MEAL! We never eat chicken, or white meat, or fish. It's always elk, deer, cow, and buffalo. I just got so sick of it, that for the last 2 weeks I've been eating chicken every other night. I do take a multi-vit with vitamin B's in it. Also I eat a lot of spinach and that fruit/vegetable tray has broccoli, or sometimes corn, peas, or my fav raw green beans....I try and mix it up. Movement.....I work outside generally for about 6-8 hours a day (just recently though). I lift rocks, rake, hoe, all that fun gardening stuff. But it's not constant, I do take breaks. And my body weight....I started at 187ish (about 8 months ago)....and now I'm down to 158. I've lost a majority of the weight in my belly, some in my arms, and some in my chest. But what I'm trying to emphasize is that I've been cold ever since high school. And last night was just pretty bad. Maybe it was the iron thing. I'm just soo sick and tired of red meat!! |

I can kind of relate. In 7th and 8th grade I was in track, during which my thighs and calves seemed to have tripled in size. I could leg press over 1,000. Now they are still big, and I've always wanted them to be smaller. I have the HARDEST time finding jeans that fit me. My thighs just don't want to fit into the jean size I should be wearing. I don't work them out specifically anymore, I mean I use them when I walk and do all sorts of stuff. But I guess what I'm trying to get at, is my legs haven't gone down in size. When I gain weight, it's in my belly, not on my thighs. When I lose weight, it's from my belly, and not my thighs. I think your body just choses what it wants, and you have to learn to love the body you have. Sorry if this is disappointing at all. |

I remember my freshman year (180 something) that I wanted to lose a bunch of weight. When I would lose about 10 lbs, I would get a lot of compliments. And it always put me at a plateau. I would start to wear baggy clothes again, the compliments would stop, and I would lose another 10. Then I would plateau with all the compliments again!!! I was a cycle for me. I didn't realize it till recently. I think it was a huge mind trick. So this time around I'm sticking to baggy clothes all the way through, and then once summer hits (granting I get to my target by then)....BAM!!! Compliments galore and one huge plateau! And this time I don't think I'll mind the plateau. :) |

I'm not on any particular diet....I'm just changing what I eat according to how my body feels. I just have a few rules. No sugar, although close to impossible to do I just minimize my sugar intake to as little as I can (but no fake sugar, I HATE the taste of it, yucky!). I do this because sugar just makes me tired all day long. I would be up, and then REALLY down. Nothing containing yeast or gluten, I noticed that it slows my body down, I feel tired and sleepy and then my stomach hurts afterwards. Lastly I don't eat anything that comes from a box or a can. Nothing preprocessed. I notice that most of it was just empty in the nutrition value. I do however splurge on these sweet and salty granola bars. I could litterally eat an entire box!! Basically, I was suffering. I listened to my body, and I fed it what it liked and needed then I stopped eating all that other junk. I am 26.2 lbs lighter. Only 29.8 lbs to go!!!
ps. never did the special K thing. I don't like cereal...it's too bland. |

1. Being able to get away, being independant, or "me time". My bf use to follow me around and tell me I was working out wrong, and then I would get all down because we were arguing. Now, he's gone most the time, and I can workout how I feel/know. Not only that, but I'm ditching his eating habits as well. WOO HOO! 2. Music. My iPod is a "god-send". I have a program that arranges music according to beat, so I can REALLY get into the music. 3. My old coach. He would walk around while we were working out, and really pay attention to what we were doing. If he didn't think you were working to your best ability, he would say out loud so everyone could hear, "You're only cheating yourself." It wasn't humiliating, it was a nice kick in the butt saying I wasn't really pushing myself. So whenever I feel weak, or I don't want to do anything that day, I say to myself "You're only cheating yourself." And I get right up and do whatever it is I've been dreading. I feel a million times better after I do it. 4. Vegetables & Fruits. They are the key to weight loss, I am convinced of it. I have more energy, and they fill you up without hundreds of calories. Thank goodness!! |

Congrats on your win!!!
I wouldn't be to concerned with everyone worrying you're losing too much weight. I just started out, and within less than 2 weeks I've lost over 10lbs and by gosh I'm eating while doing it! (trying to be funny there) I think your body just really is responding to whatever it is you're doing. Good luck for next month!! |

1. Cherry yogurt with pecans (it's like dessert, and it's great for you!I'm hooked.) 2. Coffee, I don't know, but there's something about that warm aroma. With Hazelnut creme. Yum yum! 3. Uncooked vegetables. I don't have them too often, but when I do it's nice to feel that crispy texture in your mouth. Snap, crackle, pop kinda sensation. Green beens are my favorite, or fresh garden peas. I don't feel weighed down after I eat these, and I feel better after I do. So, these are my pick me uppers. |

I just wanna say thanks all for posting. I knew one of the side effects was gaining weight, but now that you all said it was through cravings I'll be better prepared. Kinda sucks, cause I just got my shot yesterday, and I just started eating healthier and exercising 4 days ago (trying to lose weight, here we go!). I did notice right away that I was craving sugar, a lot more that usual! It was insane how bad I craved it. lol, I told my bf, no matter how much I beg him don't let me have sugar (I'm trying to cut it out of my diet, it's a real catalyst for making me feeling like crap and slowing me down). I'll post in three months and tell ya'll if I've gained any weight and if I think it's the depo. I would have gone on the pill, but it makes me violently ill (puking, headaches, can't eat anything....etc.) and no kids here so depo was kinda my only shot. But yeah, thanks for the info ladies!!
So on a different note, I was talking to my bf and I told him about depo. How it stops your period, and it generally takes a year after stopping the depo before you can get pregnant. So he asked me, if you can't get pregnant for a year, how come we're all taking the shot every three months? Also, if it tricks the body into thinking that we're pregnant, how come there's no morning sickness, but we have the cravings? Sorry, never had a kid, so I don't know really what happens to the body. Just curious. Thanks!! |
