I have the same issue. I lost 90 lbs and everyone reacted weirdly. Its hard enough to go home where I learned to eat poorly. I imagine most of us are the same way, having begun bad habits as children/youth and now are making the effort to stop. My family are all thin and I was always the 'fat sister'. I think they have a hard time adjusting to the new me. It makes everyone reassess their 'role' in the family. Old habits die hard and don't take it personally when they want to feed you. Many people treat food as a reward and a way to socialize with eachother. I know my family doesn't mean any harm when they bring out the food and chips at holidays. However, I am glad to get out of there after the holidays as it is hard to get back on track after being railroaded at my parents. In the end, what I'm trying to say is that how your family reacts is their issue, not yours. Remind yourself that you are making a change for YOU and that in the end, they still love you and are supportive. Bringing your own dish is a great idea and a way to show them a new way of eating. Good luck! |

| Weight Loss | 1200 a day | Jan 30 2011 03:26 (UTC) |

I find 1200 difficult to manage but am able to keep at 1300 per day. I tend to have a low fat bagel in the morning with fat free cream cheese and skim milk. Lunch is a spinach salad with cucumber, plum tomatoes in a raspberry vinagrette. I will toss in a 85g can of tuna (love the one with the olive oil) to add protein. Supper is another salad with chicken OR I'll roast root veggies (carrots, sweet potatoes, turnips, etc) with 2-3tbsp of low fat dressing. Watch your labels and find the lowest calorie items. You'll be amazed at the range in calories in something as simple as a whole wheat bagel! The main thing is to keep going and keep focused on your goal. Even if you don't make your calorie count for that day, you are still lower than if you weren't watching your numbers! Good luck! I have been counting my calories since Aug 2010 and have lost 64lbs. It requires constant attention to what you are eating but I have found that I can be satisfied on 1300 per day and I feel great! |
