| Maintaining | My therapist says 1,200 calories to maintain? | Dec 04 2012 16:16 (UTC) |

I agree with what's been posted here, so far, but I have another point to make. When I had already had 4 (of my 8 children) my doctor told me that 1200 calories was for LOSING weight. I had gained too much ~ big suprise, lol ~ & every time I lost 30-35 lbs I was getting pregnant again & then the whole ball would start to roll... Anyway, enough about me...what you need to do is talk to your doctor, not your therapist, unless you find a therapist who is versed in weight control!! And there is something called an "ideal weight chart", every doctor should know it, and it goes by age, gender, body type (bone structure), etc. A blanket amount of calories for everyone to maintain, gain, lose, w/e...is not the way to go. For myself, being 62 years old, female, big-boned, 5'5.5" tall, my ideal weight is 135-150 lbs. And as of this morning, I weighed in @ 136.4. I eat between 1400-1800 calories a day, sometimes a bit more, or less...but you get the general idea. You need to get help working out an "ideal weight chart" for yourself, preferably with a HEALTH professional ~ doctor, dietician, w/e ~ not a behavioral therapist, of all people...and most importantly, for someone your age, recovering from any ED...NOT by yourself! God bless you, dear, and good luck...we are all rooting for you!! :) |

I just wanted to say thanks for the tips...I have been able to get it working since, makes it ALOT easier, I must say!! Now when I add anything custom I use that button (probably more than I should, lol) but at least I have been able to get things done here. I would hate to have to find a site as good as this one for keeping up on calorie counting, having been in "maintenance mode" for over 1.5 years now...I guess I'm just a creature of habit. But as I have found, by surfing the web, finding other sites that allow counting, this is by far the easiest one for me to navigate...which is why I hate to see changes that take away favorite features. Keep doing what you guys have been able to do so well...and thanks again!! |

I have to say that I hate the way the mobile site comes up EVERY time I try to log in using my iPad...even if I am HOME?!? What's the deal with that?? Then I have to go all through pages again, might be 5-6 steps all over again here!...totally wasting my time, which is in limited supply as it is... Also, when I try to add a custom food, all of a sudden I have to know the exact nutrition count...protein, vit A, calcium...etc...I have no idea what is in a pita, for example, that I order @ a favorite restaurant!! But I have to put in a made-up number just to be able to add something to my tags. Also, I try to add it to my daily log & IT DOES NOT DO IT. Why is it whenever you get something that works, you change it, "fix" it, make it ten times worse & then I have to figure it out all over again?? Totally bummed out here...might quit the site that I have been a member of for over three years...and I have no time to read every page of posts here, so if anyone else has had this problem, feel free to reply & I will read from that point on... |

Excellent points!! Stepping out of oneself is the best way to stay involved...in life, in others, in everything! Before you get too "down in the dumps" just remember that for every other person you help, you help yourself as well...get involved & get moving, so to speak! Also, as for the exercise DVDs, they are a wonderful source of inspiration, lol, if you can just pretend that you are taking a class & the instructor on the screen is monitoring your daily progress ~ you will find yourself more likely to stay on track ~ & before you know it, the pounds will just melt away! As long as your TV is on every day, you may as well get some benefit out of it, right?!? |

I'm slo-o-owly getting used to the new logger, but it's still a bit confusing in places. I guess it must be me, but I try to remember where to find things in their new places & I sometimes forget & have to search again for links, etc. Anyway, when are we going to lose all of our Activity tags? I c/p all of my notes into my email; awkward, but at least I will still have them ~ I only wish I would have had a warning before you deleted ALL of my food tags' notes...I would have wanted to save them, as well, seeing as how it took me a YEAR AND A HALF to create them!! |

Hi there! Welcome to the site! The main reason I use multiple tags for the same meal/food item is because I sometimes only eat a portion, or a certain restaurant might fix it differently than another. For example, I frequently order a BLT, extra tomatoes. But @ one place, they might only serve it on rye, whereas another favorite place they might serve it on whole wheat, or both...so, if I order it a certain way, I will keep track in my Blackberry & tag it when we get home. I will have to look up different breads, how many slices of bacon, or w/e, & I am constantly re-working the same sandwich over and over again, if you get my drift. So I simply figure out the total calories per sandwich, depending on where I got it, approx. how much mayo (I always scrape the bread, so it isn't much, lol) or if I got extra "anything" on it. That way, if I get the same dish consistently, I can simply add the tag to my food total for that day. This is what I like to use the "notes" for in my tags ~ I know exactly what I ate, where I ate it & how much is in it every time. But if the notes are taken away, I might as well figure out the sandwich every single time I have one. |

Hey...don't feel bad, I agree with you. I don't like the new format myself, either. I miss the Home Page (I am one who used it every day, as a central HQ where I could find all in a central location, easy to see, not going to a separate tag for each page. I like to see my total calories (in and out) for the day up front, not in some obscure corner @ the top, off to the side, somewhere.) As far as the "create a meal" option ~ not a plus to me, either. I have been tagging "breakfast" "lunch" "dinner" "snack" "dessert" "sandwich" "100 calorie packs" "whatever" all along...so this is nothing new to me. I just figured it was something we were all doing. And I do miss the "notes" section when I would tag a new food item & write a note as to where different foods were found (we go out to eat nearly every day) or for example, this is so-and-so's recipe, if I ate a favorite food but divided it in half, or whatever...This was a very valuable feature for me & now it's gone?!? What's up with THAT?? Now, I will have to guess & I am guessing that I will stick with the old format for as long as I am permitted to do so. I have been using this site since June, 09, and have lost 114 lbs ~ I am almost in "maintenance mode" ~ & I guess I just like what I like. But opinions, yours & mine, are just as valid as anyone else's...they asked & we answered them. |

LOL...Like you, Geekgirl415, I love to eat really good food & still lose, and I have amazed myself time & time again over the past 14 months with how easy that is!! Once I got it into my head that all I had to do was count, it was all over. I didn't have to give up french fries ~ just take a taste or so & don't forget to count it. Of course, the best part of all that is the fact that I have found really wonderful dinners just by reading nutritional info on packages, recipes online that I never would have tried otherwise, all the while learning to actually live what I never wanted to practice before ~ & that I could do this! Since I have begun, family members have followed suit & we have all become much healthier for the experience!! One other thing that I was afraid of starting ~ the dreaded workout ~ I began slowly, but surely, every day a bit more. And I found, much to my joy, that I didn't have to give up sitting at my drawing table all afternoon, lol, as long as I didn't skip my morning work-out! These little changes in my lifestyle are what made this whole experience as easy as it has been, how easy it continues to be ~ even with the ups 'n' downs ~ & I'm sure will be for the rest of my life. I will NOT listen to those who nay-say anything I have done; on the contrary, I will continue to believe in those who believe in me. |

Yeah...it feels REALLY good, doesn't it?!? I've lost 100 lbs in the past 14 months & the other day we went to a restaurant that we have not been to in quite a while. Our old waitress came rushing over & told me, "You look beautiful!" I glowed all through my breakfast, lol... Yeah...it feels REALLY good!! (Congratulations to you on your weight loss!! Many wishes for your continued success!) |

hi Steve! Thanks for the reply...but when I hit the profile tab, mine is the one that comes up, lol. Or maybe I did it wrong. This particular person told me she was going to register an account last week, but so far I still can't find her! I wonder if she changed her mind? The other one, who has been a member for a couple of months, has not posted anything (as far as I know) to any discussions, but maybe next time I see her I will ask her to pull up her profile & I will click on it from there? I wonder if that would work... |

Just last week my dear husband (who is my biggest cheerleader) talked me into going shopping IN THE STORES! for a new outfit to wear to a family function coming up. So, I went into Catherine's & then Dot's, thinking that "I'm a Medium/12T in my catalogs, so..." and let me tell you, I have never been so proud of myself in my life! Nothing fit! Everything was huge on me, lol ~ I was shocked that I could not find one thing to buy. Then, we went to the Dress Barn, I entered on the LADIES side, lol, & promptly found two pairs of dress slacks, two new button-down blouses, and to top it all off, some new bracelets (just to celebrate). Well, when we went to the gathering this past Sunday, everyone was shocked to see this "new me" walk into the room! "OMGosh!! Look at YOU! How did you do it? You look fabulous!!" (Let me just say here that in the past 13 months, I have lost 91 lbs, with about 5-10 yet to lose. I'm big-boned, too.) When I explained that I just counted & worked out every day (except Sunday) they were stunned, lol. Right away, this one said, "Oh...diet? exercise?" That one remarked, "I need to lose. My hips are really showing a gain lately." But no one wanted to believe that I eat crepes with whipped cream every Tuesday, I have pizza at least once a month, chocolate in moderation, etc. I don't know what they think that nutrition info on packaging is for, but I love to use it religiously nowadays! Thanks to CC, I am finally "home" ~ . |

Still early in the day, but here goes... Breakfast: egg beater omelette, including broccoli & ONE slice of American cheese Lunch: thinking about low-cal. yogurt w/ 1 serving of grapes or strawberries Dinner: probably grilled cheese (using non-calorie spray, of course) & diet whole wheat bread, 2 slices of American cheese or perhaps Swiss; also having low-cal. soup (probably vegetable) ~ or maybe I'll just have a Smart Ones dinner. :)

Thank-you very much for that! I have never heard of backwards lunges but I will give them a try. They sound alot easier than I was thinking they were, lol ~ so I don't see a problem with that!! I was also doing some reading of others' reviews on Amazon for Jillian Michaels' DVDs yesterday *thinking about ordering a few* when I came across several who complained of pain in their knees, come to find out it was some of the exercises she was doing! I guess there are quite a few things that I can't do...besides bad knees I have several back issues...so my trainer tells me all the time that I have to be so careful. It's a wonder I've lost any weight at all, eh? |

I'm afraid I don't know about the backwards lunges...how do you do them? My trainer tells me that there are other exercises that I can do as well that won't burden my joints so much, but the only backwards things I have tried are Leslie's backwards "walk" lol. I would be willing to try them if I know what they are... Like you, I like to feel like I've really worked out when I'm done; there is nothing like the feeling of breaking a sweat, and I canNOT believe I just said that! lol... |

Yeah...I feel the same way, lol. If I don't have the energy or alot of time ~ say, for a complete workout ~ I will do one of Leslie's "walks". I have used alot of her steps in my warm-ups, tho' ~ I feel like they are perfect for getting me started. Then I move on to the harder stuff; I was looking @ these others' websites & I was wondering if there are any trainers "out there" who don't push the squats & lunges so much?? Those are two of the worst moves for someone like me! |

Hi there! I was just trying to remember if I've ever heard of either of these two women, but I must confess my mind is drawing a blank. I'm sure you must know about Jillian Michaels? Or have you ever done anything with Leslie Sansone? I love both of them, for different reasons...Jillian's calisthenics & weight-lifting are darn near perfect for me, for the most part, altho' there are a few things I can't do for health reasons ~ bad joints, mostly. Leslie is more gentle, lol ~ she does the "Walking at Home" series. I have taken things I've learned from each of them & incorporated them into my own workouts ~ 3 days a week, I do just about everything, and the other 3 days I do strictly cardio. Sundays I rest! I've been doing this since last June & so far I've lost 60lbs...so something must be working for me, lol ~ that plus the whole calorie-counting thing, of course... I think I might look up these two that you are talking about & see what they are all about! |
