I'm very new to the forum, and just starting my cycling training for the year. I'm starting with 40 miles for the week, which is about 4 hours of riding for me; I'd say that's a beginner level. A brand-new to cycling level would be about 20 I'd think, while a moderate level would be 60 miles/metric century, and advanced would be the full 100 miles. |

| How far do you have to drive to commuter to work? Or how many times do you run errands that are 3 miles or less from your house? If you replace driving the car with cycling for some of those errands, so you're doing about an hour of cycling a day at about 10-12 MPH, you'll burn about 500 calories. | |||
| Fitness | What is spinning? | Oct 21 2007 20:39 (UTC) |

| Spinning refers to focusing on cycling RPMs -- the number of times that the crank turns in a minute. An 'easy spin' means cycling about 70 RPMs, while 90 RPM (or more) is high intensity work. In a spinning class, you add interval and resistance training based on what the instructor calls out. | |||
