I'm very new to the forum, and just starting my cycling training for the year.  I'm starting with 40 miles for the week, which is about 4 hours of riding for me; I'd say that's a beginner level.  A brand-new to cycling level would be about 20 I'd think, while a moderate level would be 60 miles/metric century, and advanced would be the full 100 miles.

How far do you have to drive to commuter to work?  Or how many times do you run errands that are 3 miles or less from your house?  If you replace driving the car with cycling for some of those errands, so you're doing about an hour of cycling a day at about 10-12 MPH, you'll burn about 500 calories.

Spinning refers to focusing on cycling RPMs -- the number of times that the crank turns in a minute.  An 'easy spin' means cycling about 70 RPMs, while 90 RPM (or more) is high intensity work.  In a spinning class, you add interval and resistance training based on what the instructor calls out.
