Fitness Hip/Leg Pain.. need help asap!! Sep 11 2012

Thanks for the concern guys!

Its not the outside of the hip that's my problem, its like in front of the hip flexors?  So I don't think its the it band (correct me if I'm wrong-- I just looked at some stretches for it and wasn't sure)  I did a quick search and stuff that popped up was tendinitis & strain, and I think that might be the case.  I'm going to keep icing tonight and stretch and see how tomorrow goes.  If I still can't really walk I'll talk to coach again before we leave.  I don't want to cause any more damage than I already did!

Problem is, my team is so small i don't think there will be enough people to qualify if I don't run, and finish.  I just don't know how to stop the pain for long enough to be able to run, because ibuprofen only helps so much. . .

Who cares, its not like you can change your body type.  And gaining/losing weight for a guy isn't gunna score you any points with them either.

You're beautiful skinny, curvy, scrawny, chubby, whatever.  And if a guy doesn't like that, screw him.  Embrace yourself.

I'm only 120-125 lbs and I eat 2500+. Honestly, eat as much as you want.  You're a teen, you're growing.  Why only eat that little when you can be eating double (Literally!!)?  Love food, just love healthy food!! :D

I think what you have is a trap bar.

Thats it!!

Smashley23- that would make sense, especially due to my great lack of upper body strength ^-^

And I was helped by this! I very much appreciate all you guys's advice. Michaelduff, thanks for the well wishes, I'm definitely staying with this exercise regime they have the team on! As much as I hate my body being this sore, it'll help me in the long run for sure (haha, unintended track pun! ~yes i'm lame~)

Thank you for all the advice! I can see now that I am doing the squat really wrong! I put the bar way too high (thanks for the link, michaelduff! and everyone else for that matter :)) and my back isn't tight.  I was putting the bar waay above my shoulder blades. I will definitely ask my coaches to help me do it right next time!!  The fact that you guys can do it with like hundreds of pounds makes me wanna improve haha!  However, i do not use any covering for the metal of the bar, and unless my pain persists, I don't think I will.  Only because I don't want to mess with the form.

And at my school's weight room we do have something else for squats that i use a lot.  I don't know how to explain it, but its like a big metal square with handles that you lift (you can put weights on it too) off the ground and squat with.  I really like that, but as others said, i really should do both because of the team.

Also, another question.  Since I'm a beginner, is it normal to be sore throughout my back as well? I imagine that soreness is from the squats, and other than the pain from the neck (which, thank goodness I now know how to fix!), that's the only thing holding me back from using more weight.

I never tried this but i think my friend uses rubbing alcohol she does like every morning and night. Again I havent tried it but itvseems to work for her

Only as a spot treatment for large pimples. Otherwise it dries out the skin!

After you wash your face, rinse it with cold water.  This closes the pores and really helped my skin out.

Look up some natural remedies.  Those are usually the best to do, i my opinion.  I've used tomato for spot treatment and an oatmeal, lemon juice, and  honey mask on my friends (my skin isn't that bad, and is very dry for these things).

And most of all, just stay healthy.  Wash your face every morning and night.  Foods that are bad for you do cause acne, so try to stick with a good diet, and I've heard that exercise helps acne as well.  Its just making you the healthiest you can be, and everything usually falls into place (;

Good luck!

Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate it!!

Hilary- Hmm I think I'll put Zumba in for regular dance-- that seems like the closest fit.  And at 130 lbs, I'm actually at a healthy weight! Sounds crazy when you hear of all of these 5'7+ girls at the same weight though ):!

Chuckdaisy- Yea, I looked at the calorie count burn for regular dance and it was about the same as what you had.  It just surprises me the difference it is!

ln77- Thanks!! Yea, the good but bad part about Zumba is that I'm usually either trying too hard to get the steps right or having too much fun to really realize how hard I'm working (;

Questions..

How long has it been going on for?

Not long.  Only since a bit after my volleyball season ended (a few weeks). Could it be a result from this?

Have you ever been able to run without pain?

Yes! Thats what shocked me so much!

Does it happen with other forms of exercise?

Not that I know of. ETA: Yea, when I do jumpingjacks (gym class is torture)

Is the pain down in your belly? (The real stomach is actually higher up, under the ribs).

Oops, sorry for the mix up! Mostly in the belly, but if i run long enough without stopping it'll disperse to under the ribs too.

 Thank you for the response!!

Hello everyone! Haven't posted anything lately, too much to do! I probably won't post much because of the fact that I have no time whatsoever except for the weekends to go on the computer. So, here's what i have to do athletic wise:

-Not including changing and all that jazz, about 45 minutes of gym

-2 hours of volleyball practice (I made the team!)

- walking to anf from school with about a 20lb back pack on my back (20 mins approximately)

So about 3+ hrs of activity a day. A lot (for me). I've hurt myself quite a bit, but nothing serious.

Well, I hope everyone's doing all right. Des I hope you feel better soon!! That sucks ):!

I didn't read the past responses. School started today and I'm so busy. Left at 7 got back at 6, with walking (sprinting.. heheh) up and down hallways, 2.5hrs volleyball tryouts.. I don't know if I'll live through friday. I'm so tired.... Gym is going to be a bear. We're not really doing anything till the end of the weeks.

I hope everyone's having good workouts. I know I am! Best shape of my life.. and its only been 4 days of tryouts. (none on weekends-- all i did was play a massive game of tag with some great old friends (;   )

So much activity in this thread! Admittedly I did not read everyone's posts, but hope everyone's doing well either with their exercises or recovering from injury!

For me, I had my volleyball tryouts today. Don't think I did spectacular, but I tried my hardest. Then found out it goes till Tuesday Yell However, hopefully I'll do better tomorrow (If I'm not that sore!)

So for workouts today:

-2 and a half hours of volleyball and conditioning

-45mins of cutting the lawn (push mower)

I ate a lot today, but think my activity level makes up for it. Today was grueling, and I have to do all of it again tomorrow! Ahhh sports </3

I've been very busy these past few days, and its only gonna get worse. Well i had a party yesterday and of course my eating went horrible. It was a party though, so I'm not too worried about it. Something though messed with my stomach because I'm extremely nauseous.

Haven't got any exercise done, but i plan on doing something tomorrow if I feel better. I don't want to be sore for tryouts, thats my main concern (when I'm sore, i'm sore for days)

Thanks for the advice everyone, I'll have to look into steel cut outs. The exercises everyone is suggesting or saying are pretty cool.

Thanks and good luck! God bless!

awestendorf- Wow, very cool! Seems like a good program to go by!

crazypotatoe98- Hmm I understand what your saying, but for now I'll deal with what i've got. Once I get more in shape (and finances improve) I'll look more into a bench or some other equipment. No discouragement whatsoever, I appreciate the advice! I might just have to try steel cut oats. Seems like a good breakfast-type dinner too. Thanks! Sorry for starting the off topic-ness. Everyone seems to be doing well with their workouts! Today I did:

-20 min upper body (arm and shoulder mostly) workout

I got rather frustrated and didn't really finish the push up portion of it (only a few minutes really) because I couldnt really regulate my breathing like the video was telling me to. There's really no excuse, just my bad attitude after a long day of work (;

I didn't do any lower body because of how sore I still am. I don't want to overdo it. I want to do an ab workout because the upper body workout didn't have much of that, but most ab workouts include crunches and those hurt my back so much. So I'm not too worried about it, even though I kinda ate like a pig today. For maybe ten minutes i played tag with a kid, so it evens out (;

So many people use this thread! Its hard to keep up! However, its remarkable and very encouraging!

This is like the 6th time for me trying to post a reply. My computer either shuts down (it always does this) or the post is invalid. So here goes-

awestendorf- Wow its awesome seeing what everyone does as their workouts, especially at home. Do you mind saying what NROL means? I've never heard of it. And thanks for the luck! I'm not the best, but i give it my all so I think I have a chance! And I'm on proventil and flovent. My asthma is induced by weather changes, exercise, and allergies. I also get bad pains in my lungs because of it.

romancoat- Thats why i like the website s much-- they talk you through everything and have modifications for if you cant do some of it!

crazypotato98- very inspiring story, thank you. I wish I have the room for a weight bench, but because I don't I just use my 5lb dumbbells (once they aren't so hard for me to use continuously I'll prob by bigger ones) with combination exercises (as an example, squats and arm raises).  Out of curiousity, what is a normal breakfast for you? I eat cereal or instant oatmeal and its not filling. I dont have time to cook much either.. I like your mentality, I might just have to adapt to that sort of thinking haha.

mjsophia- Good luck on the internship! What spot do you play in volleyball? Any tips? Congratz on winning!!!

Like I said, its great to see what everyone else does for exercise. Everything is so diverse. Heres what i did yesterday!-

-20min total body strength workout video!

This was hard because I had done 35 mins of yoga the day before the day before (confusing haha) and was still sore. I give myself a rest day in between each workout because of how sore I get. I only do yoga videos, and I know I do them wrong because I just can't lift my legs that high!! Hopefully by the end of august I'll be able to do it right! Good luc to everyone and God bless!!

I would like to join as well!! I need to be more accountable.

Everyone seems to have such hard goals, mine are quite easy in comparison! I dont go to gyms or anything either, romancoat! I go on exercise.tv to get my workouts, and its really like you have a trainer with you! Its cool, you should check it out :D!

Well here are my goals:

  • Workout at least 20-40 minutes every other day, preferably yoga and strength training
  • Make the volleyball team! Tryouts the tenth D:<
  • Stop having asthmatic pains and breathing problems. I plan to achieve this through losing 5 lbs out of the 15 I gained back from my initial loss, sticking with the exercise, and sticking with my medications.

Well thats it. I hope everyone here is able to stick with their goals, and dbackerfan I hope you feel better! Bierorama I hope your daughter gets better!! Thanks to crazypotato98 for making this thread! Its brilliant!

God Bless.

Not All Processed Foods Are Created Equal
Fact: a diet containing whole, fresh fruits and vegetables is one of the best for a healthy mind and body. Although true, it can be hard to keep food fresh at home for longer periods of time, and if you have no time to shop every few days, boxed and canned foods become appealing. We often hear about heavily processed frozen dinners and processed foods worth avoiding, but there are minimally processed foods that do pack a lot of nutrition and may be worth having in the fridge or cupboard.
