If your uterus is "really hard" could it possibly be endometriosis?  I don't know the symptoms but I do know that hardening of the uterus is one.  If that is a possibility then you REALLY need to talk to your doctor.

Pregnancy & Parenting late period...feeling very scared Feb 10 2011

Don't panic yet.  Last time I dieted and increased my workout routine I also had a late start - in other words, give it a week and if your period hasn't started take another test.

I know it's not that easy to sit around and wait.  In my case I was hoping with all my heart to be expecting and it was constantly on my mind  (can't have any more kiddos).  My period did start but was a full 10 days late.  I guess my body was just adjusting.

Be patient, don't stress or you could make it later, and don't worry about telling your BF yet.  I know that's hard (first pregnancy before I married my hubby and we were terrified!), but like you said, why stress him out if it really is nothing.

If your next test is negative, and it's been a week past your normal start date, go to a doctor or Planned Parenthood for a test; it will be much more accurate and give you peace of mind.

Good luck!

Just be careful of hernias - don't know that this could actually lead to that but because of the reaction it does sound as though there was too much strain.  Be careful!

Weight Loss Is HCG Diet as unhealthy as it sounds? Nov 09 2010

I guess I'll be the only one that is on the diet - 2nd round - and actually had success without gaining weight back.

I started the diet the end of February, finishing the end of March, and lost 23 pounds taking the drops and eating 500 calories a day.  After 8 months I had only gained 4 pounds, which my body fluctuates anyway.  I have just started the diet again and am down 12 pounds with a goal of 22 pounds.  I LOVE this diet and highly recommend it to people who already eat healthy and work out without the success they are looking for.  This would not be the right diet for someone who does not already have discipline around food or the desire to work out.  However, for me it has been wonderful.

So, bring on the bashing - I can handle it.  A total loss of 35 pounds is worth it to me.

If you do decide to do this massage please enlighten us as to your progress.  It's always nice to have someone else do the research and save the rest of us money, OR, if it truly works, to share the info.

As it reminds me somewhat of those electrical shock bands that people used to use to lose weight - the ones that would make your muscles contract painfully - I think I would avoid it, but as I said, if it works, let us know!

I love, love, love my VFFs!  I have used them for 3 days of hiking in Yellowstone and 2 days of hiking in Arches/Canyonlands.  Lots of inclines, which are very easy to do but then you have to go back down - not as easy, but my feet NEVER hurt.

I own the Sprints, more like a sandal, and have used them for running on the treadmill and around a trail as well.  Really, outside of having landed on a large rock, I never have had any problems with discomfort.

Purchasing a second, more flashy, pair soon.  Went with black to get used  to the ugliness, but now some pink or blue might be fun!

Enjoy these - they are wonderful!

I also work at a desk all day and am working at kicking a few pounds - the thing that has helped me is having baggies of veggies and fruits cut up and in the drawer next to me.  Some of my coworkers have even taken to drying their veggies and fruits so they have more of a crunch, like chips.

Hope that helps!  I have lots of easy recipes that you can make before and have at work if you need any extra ideas.

Good luck!

And I completely agree with the not being here to be judged or put up with snide comments that people feel they need to post as feedback!  We're supposed to be here to help each other no matter personal flaws, ignorances, and/or viewpoints on diets or techniques.

Just an FYI - it's been 5 month since I ended the first round and only gained a fluctuating 5 lbs. back, which is normal for my body weight.  I still fully endorse this as the weight I lost did not come back.

People are going to get ornery because I'm advocating something different, but oh well.  I am also 5'4" and weighed 163 in February after 8 months of calorie counting and working out.  I didn't lose anything doing this!  I went on HCG and lost 23 lbs. by the end of March (35 days from start).

Although I was impressed with that weight I figured I'd do another round, which I just started last week.  I'm down again with a goal of 118 by the end of this round, 30 days to go and 17 lbs.

If you're not seeing results, look into this and maybe you'll be as happy with it as I have been.

Good luck!

Something to consider - Do you really want to go on hormone treatment and have 'fake' hormones to go with your 'fake' period, or do things naturally?  I'm not an expert and I never lost my period when I had an ED so have no official word on any of this, BUT, I am against my body not being able to do things naturally as the long-term results could be detrimental when forced.

Many people have differing opinions and it could be safe and the best thing for you.  Just keep in mind that your body will never get back into the natural swing of things if you have a forced period and then forced hormones.

Good luck!  Get well!

I just returned from Yellowstone and hiked the whole park wearing my Vibram FiveFinger Sprints.  Wasn't sure if they'd be enough but wanted to experience the whole revolution of bare-footing.  Surprisingly I had no problems hiking in these for 4 days straight.  The only thing that was a little hard to get used to was that grass and weeds would go between my toes and I could feel it, and the fact that these shoes are hideous!

May be something to consider though - I love them!

The Harmons in my area carries many varieties of dried veggies; they are delicious!  Although still have a bit of salt they do have the vitamins and minerals of a healthy food and as they are dried not fried they have far fewer calories.  Give them a shot!

Also yummy is hummus or salsa with freshly cut zucchini...mmmm!

Nicky - If she likes soda see if there is any Zevia in your area.  It's really sweet and a little different from regular soda but does not have sugar so does not affect the gylcemic index.  She may end up really liking it - especially if you tell her it's the new craze, not a diet drink!

For your own weight issues - I understand completely your fear of being large like your parents so not wanting to gain weight; however, it's equally important for you to be healthy and just like overeating, undereating is a problem too.  If you look up the recipes on this site and all of you begin eating the same thing, then all of you will be on track to being healthy.

Some fun recipes that are similar to what you may normally eat at home (and are listed on this site) are: curried chicken, extra light chicken chili verde, Ron's amazing salad, spinach stuffed chicken, sweet potato fries, and zucchini lasagna.  These are just some that I've posted and were approved my husband and kids, but there are a ton available.

Again, good luck and take care of yourself!

Would it be possible for you to cook something other than a salad?  Maybe make her stir fry with fresh veggies, brown rice, a little chicken?  Foods that are close to what she enjoys but on the healthy side would be a good start to getting her to change.  There are quite a few healthy recipes on this site that might appeal to her and curb her cravings.

I'm so sorry that you are having to go through this.  Food can be as much an addiction as any drug and it sounds as though your mom is fighting a losing battle.  Perhaps there is an intervention or a group you can convince her to join?  Good luck Nickyboooo!

^ this...

There are many of us on this forum that have not been able to have as many children as we would like or haven't been able to conceive even one child.

If having this baby and raising it on your own is overwhelming, and so proud of you for not wanting to end this being's life, perhaps you can consider others that strongly desire children and aren't physically able to bring them into the world.  There have been quite a few posts about adoption here from healthy people - just another option!

I'm not saying have the baby for anyone else, I'm just pointing out another option!

It has been a hard week for me too, Vescag!  I usually rotate between Pilates, running, biking, swimming, and stair stepping to keep my motivation up...but I always play with the weights as I feel better after doing them.

I haven't been able to work out all week so far but I'm looking forward to taking my kids swimming this weekend and hopefully will get the heart pumping and the body burning.

Everyone is quiet lately.  Must be vacation time...Have fun everyone while I sit at work and finish my semester in school! Wink

Agreed...whatever it takes to not have this issue overlooked any longer, or further provisions made to excuse those benefitting illegally where legals do not benefit.  Taking action makes the problem better known and a final decision made, thus is proactive.  Sadly, many do feel that they are being targeted because of the color of their skin, and I truly hope it does not come to that!

Along the lines of counting your calories in the ethnic foods...it take a little time but you can typically find the ingredients separately and combine them all in your own recipe...then whenever you eat that meal you just pull up your recipe and add it to your food log.  So easy and accurate!

Not All Processed Foods Are Created Equal
Fact: a diet containing whole, fresh fruits and vegetables is one of the best for a healthy mind and body. Although true, it can be hard to keep food fresh at home for longer periods of time, and if you have no time to shop every few days, boxed and canned foods become appealing. We often hear about heavily processed frozen dinners and processed foods worth avoiding, but there are minimally processed foods that do pack a lot of nutrition and may be worth having in the fridge or cupboard.
