I don't really have any suggestions, but I was thinking the same thing! I was going to go to my favorite restaurant for a meal (with dessert), but I think that's the wrong thing to do. Maybe a haircut/color? There are always deals on livingsocial/groupon. new workout clothes? Maybe just allowing yourself an afternoon nap?

Benji, thanks for posting, this is great. My friend's wife is gluten-free and we're always trying to find stuff for her. Everyone else, calm down, he's not forcing you to eat anything and he's trying to help. Why can't someone who cant have gluten splurge on something they'll enjoy? The rest of us can anytime we want. |

You are eating way too much protein. your really only need about 10-15% of your calories from it. It could be taxing your kidneys. |

| Health & Support | Self Insured Employer Health Insurance? | Aug 05 2008 18:10 (UTC) |

The reason that I'm asking is that I think you are confusing a self-insured insurance plan with an individual plan. I think the fact that the insurance is "self-insured" is irrelevant, because as far as your concerned, it is basically the same as a fully-insured plan. The reason I asked the size of the employer is that if a plan is self-insured, the insurance company might not renew the plan if claims are high, particularly if it is a small group (less than 10 employees). I hope that the employer would have an automatic renewal clause in the contract. I'm guessing that if you no longer have a job along with your health insurance, you'll be finding another job, in which case, you should be covered under your new health insurace. You can't be excluded due to a pre-existing condition. Unfortunately since the company is no longer around, you can't get COBRA coverage. So to answer your second post you would unfortunately be on your own to find an individual insurance plan and you'd be paying a lot for it. However, getting back to your first post, you shouldn't need a separate policy. Does this help at all? |

A self-insured plan means that the employer pays the claims incurred each month and a per contract administrative fee. I'm not sure what your concern is. Do you think your employer would discontinue coverage? I don't think you need a separate plan. Do you work for a large company? |

Rowing is one of the best total body workouts you can do, just make sure you're doing it correctly. Did you get the instructional video with it? |

It tastes pretty good, i've tried the chocolate and berry. However, i tried mixing it into soymilk and had a hard time. I think with a blender it would have been great. I haven't used it regularly, so I can't really vouch for the benefits, but I'm reading Brendan Brazier's book right now and he really knows what he's talking about. Try www.veganessentials.com, you can&n bsp;get trial packs of it. Hope you like it :) |

I have really only had a couple of annoying experience at restaurants. However, on a positive note, I went to Sullivan's Steakhouse in Chicago with some coworkers and settled on onion rings and asparagus for dinner. While I was ordering, the waitress interupted and asked if I was a vegetarian and told me they had two veg options - a portabella mushroom dish and a flatbread pizza. After I asked for the pizza with no cheese, she went through each of the family style sides ordered for the table to tell me which were vegan. It was such a nice experience. Fuzzys- I agree that Boston doesn't have too many great options, but if you go back, Bukowski's Tavern (Back Bay and Central Square) has a vegan meatball sandwich if you get it without cheese, awesome sweet potato fries and every kind of beer you could ever want.

smwhipple, i think its .5 to 2 g protein per kg of body weight, i could be wrong though. bluenote, i actually think you're right on track with your protein %. We have just about the same stats- I'm 5'5" and about 140. I estimated about 58g per day and an RD agreed that was fine. However, I don't know how PCOS affects your diet, so it may not work for you. good luck figuring it out! |

You could try unsweetened almond milk, it has half the calories of skim, but I haven't tried it to know how it would taste. |

Does eating a block of cream cheese really sound like a good idea? It seems like you'd have a fairly low calorie day if you don't go overboard on the hazelnuts, so theoretically you should lose weight, but that would be terrible for your health. Just eat fruits vegetables and whole grains. |

tv4184 is right... and fun fact - countries with higher rates of consumption of milk have the highest rates of osteoporosis. Studies have suggested that the protein in milk actually leaches calcium from your bones. There are tons of other sources of calcium, such as green vegetables like broccoli. |
