Project: Beautiful
So, I've been toying around with this idea for a while, but the I Am Beautiful thread in the Motivation forum inspired me to actually do it.
Here's the deal:
This evening, I will be going to my local 24 Hour Fitness to do my usual workout at my usual time. The difference, however, will be that I will bring a pad of stickie notes and a pen with me. In the ladies' locker room, I will be sticking at least one stickie note on the mirrors that says "You're beautiful."
Looking around at the gym, I always see women like myself affected with a negative body image that isn't even true! I want to try to fix that, because it makes me sad.
So, I'm asking everyone on here to do the same thing that I am doing whenever they get the chance, whether it be at the gym or in another public place. Maybe such a little act of kindness can go a long way. It'd be awesome if guys could participate, too--I'm sure men of all body types need some support, too, though I don't know if they'd feel the same way about one of those notes as a woman would. It's still a nice guesture, anyway. Who's in?
I am definitely in. That sounds like a really awesome thing to do, I know it would sure make me feel better if I seen one of those on a mirror somewhere.

I am soooo going to do this!
What an amazingly wonderful, positive GIFT to give another person! I love it. ![]()
I know you mean well, but I think this is a completely silly and childish idea. If I found a stickie on my mirror saying 'you're beautiful' I'd treat it the same way as when I find an annoying flyer under my windscreen wiper in the supermarket car-park... i.e. look around for the idiot littering my environment and put it in the nearest bin.
Anonymous notes distributed randomly don't convince anyone they're beautiful. If you think someone's beautiful, go up to them and say it to their face. They might think you're a nutter but at least it would be more sincere.
Although to you it may seem childish, she means well.
"The road to hell is paved with good intentions"..... proverb
I don't believe it's paved with sticky notes either, though.
I think it's all a bit silly but, well, whatever makes people happy.
wtf? whatever. disregarding everything anyone's said, I would love to see that on a mirror. It would seriously make my day (: I really appreciate things like that, and I know I'm not the only one!
And I don't think they're meant to convince anyone of anything.. just to remind people that they're beautiful! haha

I agree and it's a reminder that there are some thoughtful people in this world.
Personally, I think it's sweet. ![]()
Let's try to think positive! Someone out there may see it, and it may touch them. Heck, who knows? It's not like it's hurting anyone.

So I'm going to hell for leaving a simple note on a mirror?
I think you're the one being silly.

that would definetely feel like a good omen for me!
Guess what? All the people who dissed this, this is just like the mini-voices in the woman you're trying to help-all hatred which can't be fixed with this note but can be helped!
Please do this! I wish I could but I don't attend a gym- maybe on my school's bathroom window!
I can see both sides of the argument, but personally I like the idea and it'd make me smile to see something like that, and perhaps would have an even greater effect on someone else.
Whatever your reaction, it certainly can't do any harm.
Haha it may not convince me of anything, but it would make me smile :)

Proverbs aren't meant to be taken literally! The proverb means.... well-meaning actions can have unintended consequences.
Real life example. I remember one person I knew receiving an anonymous valentine's card. This boy had zero confidence, wasn't great-looking and not what you'd call 'a hit with the ladies'. Rather than thinking 'how lovely, somebody finds me attractive ' it threw him into a state of confusion and depression because, in his mind, the card was sent as a monumental joke... making fun of him. It made him feel worse about himself, not better.
If this is coming across as negative it's because I want you to appreciate that not everyone might react the way you think. And your funny little exercise may get some flak...

this is the young calorie counters forum. and ur going to accuse it of being childish?...... think ur in the wrong forum darling
In case you haven't noticed, my "funny little exercise" is hardly getting any flack from anyone but you. And personally, if someone came up and told me I was beautiful to my face I'd be more creeped out than if I saw a note.
And the boy that you knew--obviously, he needs more professional help. I doubt it was the card's fault.
Come on guys this is supposed to be a thread about women giving a little lift to other women... for a thread with such a purpose it's become very snarky in here.
wtf is up with some of you... i mean seriously.. this is a cute and wonderful idea. you never know, it may actually help some people feel better.
if not, atleast we tried.
