Proof: Friends aren't always friends

Quote  |  Reply

A 'friend' of mine came to visit for the weekend.  Being a 'friend', she brought a small gift to show her appreciation for picking her up at the airport, showing her around our little town, etc.

Now, I have to say that she doesn't know much about my weight loss journey since I don't like to talk about it much.  We haven't seen each other in a couple of years, and the first thing out of her mouth was, "My gosh, you're so skinny!"

Unfortunately, I now have a reason to hate this friend.  (Sarcasm - I really love her; she's awesome!)

What was this small gift of appreciation that would tear me apart like this?

BACON CHOCOLATE

Yes, dark chocolate with little bits of bacon.  Sounds disgusting.  Tastes like heaven.  Have you tried it?  What do you think?

Darn 'friends'!

Well.... if you're skinny, a little chocolate won't suddenly make you fat.  Although bacon with chocolate?  Sounds like one of Homer Simpson's ideas....

bacon chocolate?gosh, that sounds putrid.

anyway, u don't have to eat it all at once. eat just a bit every day.i'm sure she means well. and its a compliment!i'll be happy if someone said "you're so skinny!"

instead of ," you've put on weight!!"

Don't worry!  I've certainly let myself eat it in controlled (more or less Embarassed) portions.  Then my husband snuck into the kitchen and ate half a bar at once.  I love and hate him for that!  :)

She definitely means well, and I'm glad she introduced me to it.  Luckily, I have no idea where to get it around here and won't go out of my way to find it.

And her comment renewed my will-power, which has been lagging a bit lately, to eat well.

It sounds like a really odd combination. Now I don't like dark chocolate or bacon so don't think I would like it but I'm sure you can have a little bit as a treat, perhaps just ration it a bit :)  My partner buys me those Lindor Truffle balls which I love, but I have to hold myself back as I would gorge myself silly with them.

Yes! I've totally tried this! I thought it was pretty good, my husband thought it needed more bacon.

I think it would be better if it was made with milk chocolate.

More bacon would be good!  If given the choice between a piece of chocolate and a slice of bacon, I'd go for the bacon.

that sounds like something I'd eat if I was pregnant.

today, since I'm pms'ing.....i think i would eat both the bacon and the chocoate; but not together....in the same mouthful....maybe one bite of one and one bite of the other.....

but right now i'll just stick to my fiber one.

Chocolate covered bacon was a big thing at the Iowa State Fair this year.  I did not try it.  ( I didn't go to the fair) I love chocolate, I love bacon, but together?  I don't know.

It's not a pair I would come up with.  On the back of the package that I have, the developer says she came up with the idea based on her childhood.  She used to have chocolate chip pancakes with a side of bacon, and she loved it.  So, why not mix the chocolate and the bacon and skip the pancake part.

Works for me.

mmmmm......pancakes

The only thing left to do is deep fry it...

I have eaten it, and it IS quite tasty (almost no bacon flavor, it just mainly adds to the delicious-smellingness of it all) despite the weird combination.

*eats some grapes and grumbles*

I don't dig on swine, but the hubs got a bar of bacon chocolate as a gift once and said it was delicious, but needed more bacon. The stuff is a bit spendy, but a nice gift for the bacon/chocolate gourmet in your life! You can buy it here.

It isn't something I would eat, but I can't judge, considering some of the food combinations I love (beer and ice cream anyone?)

Sounds good.

 Odd... Yet: Good.

As Joey on Friends would say: " What's not to like? Bacon... good. Chocolate...good. " ;)

theholla:  that's the stuff I have.  Darn it!  Now I know where to go to get it.

lol,love that episode of friends.

i tried chocolate dipped bacon at a fair.

it. was. amazing.

I bought some last time I was in Santa Cruz.  I ate it at a wine bar upstairs from the candy store (it's great paired with zinfandel port).

The Santa Cruz Candy Store

Gross.  I was watching the food network last week and they had a piece on chocolate covered bacon ice cream.  I guess that is just a little bit worse.

Toss it!  Then you won't be tempted.  A friend of mine gave me choco covered macadamia nuts.  I ate one, then "hid" them from myself.  Luckily for me I forgot about them.  Now they have been there so long I wouldn't eat them now anyway.  I need to go home and throw them away!
