What is the proper form?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone, I have read all of the other posts but did not find the info I am looking for. I did find some interesting info (like increasing my resistance) but I am not completely sure exactly how to use it. In the sense of feet mostly. Once I head you are supposed to try and stay as flat footed as possible. I have tried that and it hurts lol. So I lift my heels slightly, which is what someone else posted here. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me exactly how I am supposed to do it. Thanks!

I don't think there is a one-size-fits-all form for the elliptical, but generally folks tend to feel better if they allow their heals to lift slightly. One no-no is going on one's tip toes, but again, it's a personal choice.

I use the elliptical primarily for its cardio benefits. I simply have found that it's the only workout I will stick with, and the one that seems to burn the most calories per minute for me. I think it's because I feel less exertion on it than I do when running.

At the end of the day, all that really matters is that you are doing it in a way that doesn't hurt and gets your heart rate up. If your form doesn't lend itself to muscle development, then so be it. There are better exercises for that that out there anyway.

Good luck! Keep us up to date Laughing

Thanks! I get a great cardio workout...usually my heart rate is higher than reccomended but I dont mind. Goes as high as 180. Its good to know the workout I enjoy is being done "right". :)
